Taggart's a good up and coming coach, but UT needs a proven winner and an ace recruiter.

I think turning a fcs school that was winless the year before he came to having back to back winning seasons is a proven winner. The thing with these lesser conference coaches is if they can do it week in and week out against the best in college football. No one knows unless UT somehow gets a Pete Carroll or Nick Saban.

Dennis Allen will be fired from the raiders. Everyone loved him last year when he was DC for the broncos.

Mullen beat his old boy urban at fla. Mullen can coach and what he is doing at miss st is much better than what we are doing.

Is he? He's beaten teams that Tennessee would've beaten. He beat Troy by 6. He's been crushed by every ranked opponent he's faced.

His win against Florida is 1 of 2 quality wins (his only ranked regular season win) that he has as a head coach. He beat his first SEC West opponent not named Ole Miss just this year (Auburn). If Tennessee wants to see better days, Dan Mullen is not the man you want in Knoxville.

I don't want Mullen either, but he has more quality wins than Strong does.

How many years has each been on the job? And who's had more chances to do work? Mullen 1-17 versus ranked teams is very telling.

4 years for Mullen, 3 years for Strong. Both coaches came into tough situations.

Charlie Strong has only played against one ranked team and that was WVU and he won.

Mullen has beaten two ranked teams in Ole Miss and UF.

Miss State is at a disadvantage compared to other SEC schools.

I would take Strong because of recruiting but as far as record, I don't think one has a clear advantage over the other.

How many chances has strong had though? I think him and mullen are about the same.

Would rather have strong and try to bring in a good ocoord

Thats what I'm saying tho. Strong really doesn't have clear advantage over Mullen because he hasn't played that many ranked teams. I think Strong would be a great recruiter here and has a lot of ties to Florida which puts him at an advantage over Mullen.

That was what I was about to say. Strong hasn't really had many chances against a top 25 team.

What OC were you thinking? A guy like Greg Roman from the 49ers is the only one that I can think of that I might like.

Dana holgorson with DB coach Hoke of Bears for DC.

Holgorsen is nothing more than a glorified offensive coordinator. You can hire any defensive coordinator you want with him and the defense is still not going to be good as with all good defenses the head coach sets the tone.

I would call Freeze before Mullen. I want neither here. At all.

I think Freeze is going to make some noise in the SEC.

LWS pointed that UT is willing to pay the house for someone like Gruden but not someone like Strong or Mullen. Its the reason why I don't think we will get either. Louisville said they would make Strong the highest paid coach and Miss State would over pay Mullen to keep him.

Nope. The list that keeps being thrown around on VQ by LWS is Petrino, Strong, Smart, Tubberville, Mullen, Patterson, Golden, & Fisher.

I would like to take this time to say to you, Jmoore, that your prescience and foresight was spot on. You said back in the summer that you could see this team only winning 5 or 6 games. Most everyone, including myself, laughed that off due to the thought process that we should have won at least two more last year (had everyone been healthy) and could only get better this year. With further retrospection, the fact of the matter is we would have possibly only won one other game (Kentucky) last year had everyone been healthy (wouldn't have mattered if we had Bray or Hunter for our losses last year: we still would have lost). I don't think you anticipated the defense being so bad when you said the team might only win 5 or 6, but, nonetheless, spot on.
