Absolutely. You could also spin his last two years as he had 2 x SEC POY & 2.5 NBA players and never won a conference tourney and had a sweet 16 & 2nd round exit.

That doesn’t mean those last two years weren’t incredibly fun. I would take them pretty much every year. But when you only look at the end of the years, we’ve underachieved.
But you could also spin it that he did it with the bad news bears, players that no big time programs wanted out of high school.

Not saying he turned into a bad coach or that this particular team is bad. But my point is as soon as he started that stuff with UCLA his clock started here. Where he once had free reign, so to speak, he now will be held to a standard.
Bull💩...everybody with a brain knew this year would be tough. If you didn't you are not very sharp. All you had to do is look at the roster. We knew who Bowden and Turner were. They are what they are by now. They are both good useful players, but you don't want to hang any high hopes for a really good season on them..they have both been very streaky, inconsistent players their whole career...if you did hang your hopes on them..then like I said..not very sharp.

Just sitting around thinking about that press conference and some of the things Pruitt said.

I know one of the initial concerns we had (especially during the OC search) was that Pruitt could have a tendency to be overly-insistent on a boring run-first, run-second offense. We love to see our boys dare you to stop the run again, but you need variety, you need to be flexible, you need to be creative, and we just didn’t have that at all with Helton in 2018. Most of those concerns went away this year with Chaney, but I loved his take on Holiday. The man knows football. He sees what guys like Lamar are doing in the NFL, and you know he’ll do whatever it takes to find away to use a similar skill set to our advantage.

Also liked how he talked about why he wanted particular players. Not the cliche “he’s got speed, good size, team player” stuff that every coach can spit out, but the detailed role he has in mind for each player in the class. He’s not a “motivator” (although he seems to be a good one...), he’s not a fireball, he’s just a man who loves the team and has a fantastic knowledge of the game.

My favorite part of these first couple classes is the coherent strategy he has for the rebuild. This isn’t a quick-fix, “get lucky and revive Tennessee football with a great QB” *cough BJ cough* class. It’s not a game to fill in the class with the best rated players to build a false sense of hype. Pruitt has a vision of what his team looks like, and he’s building it from scratch. Start on both LOS, load up depth on defense, find a QB, and sprinkle in some elite speed around him, in that order. It’s sustainable, it’s a plan for long-term success, and he’s executing it.

Sorry for the essay, just love what I’m seeing from the program right now. Not the flashiness of Jones that won over talent at the start but flamed out, but solid substance that will steadily turn the program around. The big-time recruiting will follow, and this time we’ll have a coach that can use it.
So what you're trying to say is he's building a foundation, brick by brick?

I kinda lean the opposite way. I don’t think things are as bad as people are suggesting they are. We’ve lost to three good teams. That happens.

Barnes is a good coach and he’ll get it figured out. This team is going to make the tournament.

Every coach is held to a standard and that’s to win. Whether our coach makes $1 million or $5 million, fans want to win. Barnes has shown he’s worth it by bringing in the players that he’s got for next year. This team has and was always going to have flaws once Bone decided to leave. Jordan Bone makes this a top 15 team.

I guess I completely misread your intent...sorry.

I don't know a single person among all my Vol friends and family that gives a thought to the UCLA crap.

Baylor is going to run them off the field....they will get embarrassed again....with all of them highly ranked classes, they should be able to plug and play. And Kirby Smart talking like James Cook will play even though he was just arrested. The media and fans in Knoxville crucify our players for pulling a gate off the wall. Hell, they act like JJ pulled the helmet off of the Vandy player then jumped up and down on his head.
We all have to row in the same direction....media and fans.

I would enjoy a Baylor win almost as much as I’d enjoy a Vols bowl game win.

SIAD but any rumors or rumblings as to why Jordan Burch committed to, but didn’t sign with the gamecocks yesterday?
i haven't heard any, but on SEC Now last night, the bald dude said he spoke with the mother, and he said there was no indication he could tell that he wouldn't sign with USCe. just didn't have an explanation on why it wasn't done yet either.......so who knows.

Don’t those include commits that didn’t sign?

I think there are good reasons why we lost the last two games. In the Memphis game, we were coming out of finals week. In the Cinci game, we were on our first road trip. I think even our older players are in new/bigger roles this year, and they are still adjusting to that, especially on the road. So in a way, all the players were experiencing a bit of "deer in the headlights" last night.

Although they put numbers in the wrong column, I believe these losses can be a basis for many lessons in the film room. Hopefully, we can get things back on track against Jacksonville State on Saturday, and start a new winning streak.

I think though that this team should not be judged by the standards of the last two year. It is still a patchwork work in progress. We will have to find new and creative ways to win.
