We was 10-12 in the first half, he made plenty of good throws and was accurate with the ball. JG didn’t rush for a total of -1 yards and have 10 total penalties.

Y’all can talk bad about the kid all you want, but that’s not gonna fix all the other deficiencies that played arguably a larger role in us losing.
Bottom line it is HIS job to recognize blitzes and check into the right plays. He has always failed at that and teams with speed know that. The book is written. We have to go to the shelf and get a new book.

We hardly ever did daylight runs or pulled our guards it was lean into the middle bad bad play calls on the run, the opposite of dynamic.

Pretty sure our most successful run was 7 yards on 1st and 15

This was our yards gained on 1st down rushes

0, 0, 1, 4, 1, 2,3 ,2, 1

can’t play one dimensional against that pass rush and survive

Yeah that's because it was first and 15 and they were sitting back. I'd say every one of those first down runs were between center and guard gap. Pathetic.

This program needs an elite QB to get over the hill. It should be the top priority for this staff. Elite QB play will allow us to recruit at the level of UGA and Bama. We need that one guy to propel this program to that level.

We probably do have an elite QB on campus, but covid killed his development in the offseason unfortunately.

I have not seen JG being allowed to check into other plays much at this season

It appears to me the plan is to get checks from the sideline

Hmmm I think he looks but I have heard multiple times he can make the call. Regardless he never knows what is coming at him. He is slow to react to pressure and those seconds are too valuable.

Recognizing blitzes maybe, but blocking those blitzes is not his job; it’s on the O line, Te, and RB’s. And You assume JG has the green light to change it on his own, he doesn’t. So blame Chaney for not checking into the right play if you want to use that example.

And if our million dollar coaches thought we had a better option at QB, I guarantee you they would make the change.

Bottom line, -1 yards rushing is not a recipe for any team to be successful, let alone a singular player. On top of that we had 10 penalties, between that and the rushing numbers we were doomed no matter what

No one is giving the OL a pass they sucked but a great qb knows the hot read and makes the D pay. He can't do that, never has, never will.

Yep

last week against mizzu we weren’t great on 1st down but were awesome on 2nd and long against the run. I think we only tried the run once on 2nd and long yesterday.

I made this post last week and it seems relevant here.

Run the dang ball with a run heavy game plan has been something I have wanted this program to be able to do for along time against elite teams and I can’t believe I am saying this but I don’t think this week is the time to try it.

Hear me out as I have looked closely at what most here would agree was a great offensive outing against Mizzu and the formula for that success.

Here is why I think we must pass to set up any chance to run in Athens.

While we hit some solid runs on 1st down against mizzu we really weren’t able “to impose our will” and run it down their throats. We had 18 rush attempts on 1st down and were stuffed for less than 3 yards in over half of those. We did have 3 runs over 10yards which made the yards per rush a very respectable 5 yards a carry but none the less we weren’t consistently staying ahead of the chains.

Here is reason we must play balanced football on 1st down and not be afraid for 2nd and 10 if we have an incomplete pass. We ran the ball on 2nd and 10 six times for gains of 6,10,11,13 and 9 yards for right at a 10yard average. That down and distance was clearly a successful time to run the ball.

With all that said I think it’s clear we must set up the pass to be able to run the ball in Athens. Even with our great OL I don’t think we can run the ball with great success against that elite defense the dawgs has if we try to be a run heavy team Saturday.

We must run when they are expecting pass and pass when they are playing the run imo to get a rhythm going on O.

Let's all hope Bailey lights up the scrimmage tonight. That's all I got. DB's have to make the plays that come their way. Flowers drop pick that resulted into 7 points for UGA is a play you absolutely have to make when you have a shaky QB on your sideline. Sham just needs to get in game shape, can't really fault the staff for slot woes.
We need a youth movement of sorts. Keyshawn Lawrence needs to play period. Move Alontae to FS please and play Key at corner PLEASE. I keep saying this Alontae is a good football player, Alontae game is best suited for safety because his hips aren't fluid enough.

Wideman, Callaway, Jet & Hyatt. Give them touches please, please. It's the difference in a 9 yard slant going for 12 yards or going for 50 yards. We need more chunk plays in the worst way and Palmer needs help.

O line will be fine, they have a QB with no moxie whatsoever in the pocket. It is what it is, good QBs make o line look a lot better.

Toot is the best LB in the nation IMO, Banks & Crouch are coming along. Tank is a baller, Bryce is a stud & Flowers is growing on me.

This is the SEC, and its a reason that it's not ideal to have 205lb backs as your top 3 options. It takes a guy like Cody Brown to lean on those UGA backers for 4 quarters. Get the Juco back Evans back in fold pronto also IMO.

Last but not least the tight end play is flat out pathetic. It eliminates a phase of the game for us and at this point is a handicap.

Season is not over by any stretch, a lot left to play for. Without a change up at QB tho I fully expect anything from 7-3 to 6-4. If by chance we make a QB change mid Bama game and roll with Bailey then I can see 8-2.

I said earlier in the week, along with others, that this game will come down to the trenches... I think that was truly the worst O line play I've seen from TN in 15yrs... truly pathetic. I don't care how good the D line is, we have good, solid players on the O line, and there's absolutely no reason a bunch of 300+ lb athletes can't create some time for the QB or holes once in a while for a RB... no excuse. I don't even understand what I saw... even Trey Sucked and couldn't do 'ish.

Our D played the best they could for most of the first half, giving up some bonehead plays, but overall were able to keep us in it clearly and stuff the run. By the end of the 3rd quarter they just simply didn't have enough gas left in the tank from being on the field the entire game. Secondary and particularly AT, is just not consistently good... they're not. I hope Johnson has already run Neyland steps 100 times this morning.

The coaching staff definitely deserves some serious criticism after yesterday. Chaney was asleep at the wheel the entire game. You are getting paid a lot of money to find and have plays that put your offense in the best position depending on what the defense is doing and how your unit is performing. He seemed to lazily just call inside runs that weren't working and bombs... Show me where he made adjustments consistently and started hitting quick slants or anything else to mix it up... NOTHING.

You are paid to coach a team of kids --- that many penalties yesterday falls heavily on you for not having them prepared. We looked like a bunch of first time starters at their first away game with 100,000 opposing fans yelling at you... gimme a freakin break on the penalties.

I've now heard from too many folks that it seems we do in fact have talent some at QB, but that Pruitt keeps putting JG in... Well after yesterday, if you are going to keep him in, then you deserve the outcome and deserve major criticism Pruitt... I like our coach and he is definitely an upgrade from previous coaches, and definitely is what this program needs. But he doesn't get a pass from yesterday. He better take ownership because this was his F up as much as anyone else's... very disappointing.

I've grown to hate kirbz and GA as much or more than FL and AL, but that guy, his staff, and his players out coached us and beat our asses the entire second half.

Guess we'll see what the staff and team is made of against KY. They are actually pretty good this year. Are we going to roll over or are we going to come out of this like after Ga St and BYU?

The scary and unfortunate part of this is that I think most of us hoped and thought we were finally past these types of games, that we would and could compete with anyone now, even if we lost it would be close and respectable. Yesterday was just pathetic and sad.....

I said last night we spotted them a down every series. Might as well started 2nd and 9 or 10. We wasted just about every first down.

After sleeping on it, I’m upset because I thought we were further along than what we are. We had a chance to take a step back to relevance last night and s*** the bed. Before the season started, a lot of people were saying this season is a success with 6 wins.. considering Vandy a lock, we’re half way there. Kentucky and Arkansas should be wins.. Auburn looks really bad, so there’s your six... beat one of A&M Bama and Florida and we should be dancing in the streets... one thing I have learned about Pruitts’ teams are they get rolling the further along the season goes... 7 wins does not seem too far fetched if we don’t beat ourselves like last night

Am I delusional in thinking we would have had some success running outside as opposed to inside?
I don’t know. It didn’t seem like we had a plan at all. We did nothing to counter their blitz attack, they did nothing to loosen up the run game. We just pounded our head into a wall

Hmmm I think he looks but I have heard multiple times he can make the call. Regardless he never knows what is coming at him. He is slow to react to pressure and those seconds are too valuable.

I could be wrong but i havent seen him change anything at the line that wasn’t signaled in all year

Maybe someone can discredit that but I don’t recall a single play

It's ok to sprinkle in some freshmen but we aren't gonna beat anyone, in the SEC, playing freshmen across the board. No high school team in gonna win in the SEC.
