Just a par for the course end to a mess of a season. Justin Turner pulled from game in the 7th for a positive Covid test (yea how) Manfred booed endlessly, is visibly bothered by it, then appears to either get immediately drunk or has a stroke. That was bonkers.
They didn't get the test results until the 7th inning? Just when you thought it could not get any more bizarre, 2020 says hold my beer.

Yep. My thoughts for Arky is JG will start he didn't turn the ball over so I, sure Pruitt is happy with him, but have another QB ready for the inevitable implosion. Once JG starts turning the ball over again put the new guy in and ride off into the sunset with JG. A bigger concern though is defense and how bad we have looked, we need a youth movement at certain spots, and hopefully we get it after the bye.

My thing is....why do these coaches take frustrating “L’s” with JG and continue to work with him in the film room and practice but don’t work with these other QB’s and give them a chance starting some games and work with them on their game day film?...if trying to find the best option is the objective then do that by throwing them out there during a game..I promise you it can’t be any worse than what JG gives us..they are literally acting like JG doesn’t throw picks in games but yet when our back up QBs who get ZERO reps throw INTS in “PRACTICE” they even get yanked lol makes no sense..these kids will never get better without reps.as long as they can feel the pressure in the pocket and see a a blitz coming before the snap I’ll be happy.

From SWAN:

Spoke at length with someone “close” today

—-So TN had a scrimmage last night and Mauer, who this person thinks gives us a real chance, threw two quick interceptions and was immediately yanked.

—- Shrout is at the bottom of the depth chart

—-Mauer just can’t figure it out— read between the lines

— HB is making serious strides every day

—- they really like Frosh Wr’s....room was decimated in fall camp with the virus

—— JG is currently the best we have

—— this person LOVES SALTER

not much but some clarity on the QB situation

SWAN

Well thank god JG doesn’t turn the ball over in practice. Who knows where we would be this season If he did.

His voice sounded normal during the presentation of the trophy to Robert’s. Then he was presenting the MVP to Seager and sounded like he had slurred awkward speech, followed it up with more of the same while being interviewed by MLB network. Kind of odd. Not as bad as the Ron Paul interview weeks back, and it may not have been a stroke, some folks said his earpiece may have messed with him, causing a delay. But he was fine at the beginning. Probably nothing.

No reason coaches cant come up with a gameplay that has him ready for Arky.
Agreed. That high back shoulder throw to Wideman over the top of the corner on him shows that Bailey knows what he is doing. It wasn’t a 50/50 ball.

When’s the last time any of our QBs have thrown a ball like that?

Officially ready to start calling him Coach "Kick the Can Down the Road". The rest of this season is his chance to get the next guy valuable game reps so that next season we have our guy established and ready to roll. Instead he wants to just play JG cause it's easier on him and hope things work out next season with whoever is left over after transfers. Unreal.
It sure seems that way, this Covid and contact tracing has hurt us this year on both sides of the ball this year. Maybe Bailey gets a chance and we never look back. It’s unnerving to say the least

I think our defenses problem is more lack of effort than anything else. And not being able to stop the dang slant...

You're preaching to the choir on anything JG here. I didn't trust him at the end of last year, and I didn't trust him at the beginning of this year. Imo JG gets to play because he knows the checks the best, he can check us out of a bad play more often than the others. Also he's a practice warrior and that seems to be what Pruitt wants, you aren't allowed to make mistakes in practice or you don't get to play. Imo I think Pruitt is fine doing what he can with the upperclassmen while trying to teach the freshman to do things his way.

So as pissed off as I was after the Alabama game I have come to this thought process.

I think Pruitt had intentions of a lot of his Freshman getting to play this year, but, that was before COVID. He thought he was going to have time to coach the young guys up and let them play.

This doesn’t excuse the product we’ve had on the field the last 3 games. That still pisses me off and a lot of that has to do with the QB position. However, COVID also struck there with HB.

I think a lot of things contributed to the current on field product.

Good news is that let’s be honest, this year while it counts is just an asterisk. Next year I believe is the year you judge Jeremy Pruitt on. There are no excuses for next year.

Anyways I hope we win out this year and I hope HB becomes the starter.

He never threw the ball up for grabs in high school, even to Gilbert. He almost always had perfect placement. He completed 70% of his passes last season and that was with lots of drops. That wasn't just screens and short passes either, he pushed the ball downfield a lot.

I don't think its lack of effort as much as poor D line play. We have 0 pass rush which makes our coverage look worse than it is. Hence this is one spot where I want to see the young guys. Baron needs to play a lot on first and second down, he has played well in the run game but he's not there as a pass rusher yet. Then on third we need to see Harrison, slide Crouch down, Eason just find someone that can push the pocket. Our linebackers struggle to cover the middle of the field imo because our d line is weak, they are playing the run so aggressively that their first step is usually down or out which opens up the middle of the field.

Come be a back up QB at the university of tennessee where if you throw interceptions in practice you get yanked and get absolutely zero! Live game reps on Saturday...but Jarrett Romo! Who can’t feel pressure with both hands on his nuts and can’t see a blitz without asking Helen Keller which side it’s coming from but that’s ok it’s completely different because he’s earned it...seniority is the ticket around this facility....I MEAN HOW ******* DUMB DOES THAT SOUND!?!...like its mind boggling.makes absolutely no sense at all

My take on the QB situation...

- Maurer gives us a better chance to beat the top tier teams (Bama, UGA, UF). He is much more of a playmaker than JG is.

- JG gives us a better chance of beating the average SEC teams (Carolina, Mizzou, Kentucky, Auburn, etc.) The reason being that, for the most part, he is the safer play. He knows the offense well and doesn't have a ton of turnovers where he is not pressured (outside of this year's Kentucky game). It is when we are outmatched and he is forced to create because of the defensive pressure that you see JG really become a turnover machine (see UGA this year.) When you look back at our 8 game winning streak, that is what he was doing for us. He wasn't pushing for the big play because he is incapable of creating something on his own. He can hit a deep ball here or there, but that is about it. He won't make a big play out of nothing like Maurer could. I think the issue with Maurer is that he will try to create something bigger when something just fine is staring him right in the face. That works sometimes...but it also will result in unforced turnovers.

- Pruitt has proven that he can beat the average SEC teams with JG at the helm if he protects the football. Is it boring? Yes. Is it better than losing? Yes. The only way JG will get benched permanently is if he performs like he did against Kentucky again. Those turnovers were unforced and inexcusable. If he does not protect the football, he loses his one and only asset that he provides to this team.

- The only thing that I think could disrupt the status quo of JG getting the start is if Bailey continues to progress. If he can offer you more big play ability WITH the ability to not cause unforced turnovers, I believe Pruitt will make the switch. I would assume Pruitt does not feel Bailey is at that point yet.

- So, who gives us the "best opportunity to win"? Against the rest of the schedule, I honestly believe it is JG. I really wish it could be a better playmaking guy, but it is what it is. Since Miss State last year, JG has only had one loss to the average SEC teams. Will he ever be able to beat a UGA or Bama? No. But there are no more Bama's or UGA's on the schedule. I don't consider A&M or Florida on that level. If JG plays like he did against Bama, we could beat anybody the rest of the way.

Let me get back to you on that question.

It’s really so comical how you guys forget the good JG does for the convenience of trying to make a point when jt fact it makes your opinions less informed.

JG had a number of beautiful throws in just the last game but you guys keep posting your “when was the last time our QBs made a pass like that” nonsense to try and make a point all
You want even if it makes you guys look like you aren’t even watching the games.

Dude I feel like over the summer me and you were the only ones preaching about this fools gold and we got absolutely flamed for it...different year same dude..nothing has changed no improvements.I can’t wait till he’s gone and Chris weinke is fired!...what will this say about Pruitt as a HC when JG leaves and we start winning games next year that we wouldn’t have won with JG!?!..I’ve already got my statement written out on what I’ll say😅..👀🤘🏽

So you think that 175 yards passing and 2 TDs (what he had vs Bama) can beat aTM or Florida? This is the one point i can't agree with you on. Not to mention Bama didn't even blitz us and he still only completed like 54% of his passes vs them.
