They didn't get the test results until the 7th inning? Just when you thought it could not get any more bizarre, 2020 says hold my beer.Just a par for the course end to a mess of a season. Justin Turner pulled from game in the 7th for a positive Covid test (yea how) Manfred booed endlessly, is visibly bothered by it, then appears to either get immediately drunk or has a stroke. That was bonkers.
Yep. My thoughts for Arky is JG will start he didn't turn the ball over so I, sure Pruitt is happy with him, but have another QB ready for the inevitable implosion. Once JG starts turning the ball over again put the new guy in and ride off into the sunset with JG. A bigger concern though is defense and how bad we have looked, we need a youth movement at certain spots, and hopefully we get it after the bye.
From SWAN:
Spoke at length with someone “close” today
—-So TN had a scrimmage last night and Mauer, who this person thinks gives us a real chance, threw two quick interceptions and was immediately yanked.
—- Shrout is at the bottom of the depth chart
—-Mauer just can’t figure it out— read between the lines
— HB is making serious strides every day
—- they really like Frosh Wr’s....room was decimated in fall camp with the virus
—— JG is currently the best we have
—— this person LOVES SALTER
not much but some clarity on the QB situation
SWAN
It sure seems that way, this Covid and contact tracing has hurt us this year on both sides of the ball this year. Maybe Bailey gets a chance and we never look back. It’s unnerving to say the leastOfficially ready to start calling him Coach "Kick the Can Down the Road". The rest of this season is his chance to get the next guy valuable game reps so that next season we have our guy established and ready to roll. Instead he wants to just play JG cause it's easier on him and hope things work out next season with whoever is left over after transfers. Unreal.
I think our defenses problem is more lack of effort than anything else. And not being able to stop the dang slant...Yep. You're preaching to the choir on anything JG here. I didn't trust him at the end of last year, and I didn't trust him at the beginning of this year. Imo JG gets to play because he knows the checks the best, he can check us out of a bad play more often than the others. Also he's a practice warrior and that seems to be what Pruitt wants, you aren't allowed to make mistakes in practice or you don't get to play. Imo I think Pruitt is fine doing what he can with the upperclassmen while trying to teach the freshman to do things his way.My thing is....why do these coaches take frustrating “L’s” with JG and continue to work with him in the film room and practice but don’t work with these other QB’s and give them a chance starting some games and work with them on their game day film?...if trying to find the best option is the objective then do that by throwing them out there during a game..I promise you it can’t be any worse than what JG gives us..they are literally acting like JG doesn’t throw picks in games but yet when our back up QBs who get ZERO reps throw INTS in “PRACTICE” they even get yanked lol makes no sense..these kids will never get better without reps.as long as they can feel the pressure in the pocket and see a a blitz coming before the snap I’ll be happy.
He never threw the ball up for grabs in high school, even to Gilbert. He almost always had perfect placement. He completed 70% of his passes last season and that was with lots of drops. That wasn't just screens and short passes either, he pushed the ball downfield a lot.Agreed. That high back shoulder throw to Wideman over the top of the corner on him shows that Bailey knows what he is doing. It wasn’t a 50/50 ball.
When’s the last time any of our QBs have thrown a ball like that?
I don't think its lack of effort as much as poor D line play. We have 0 pass rush which makes our coverage look worse than it is. Hence this is one spot where I want to see the young guys. Baron needs to play a lot on first and second down, he has played well in the run game but he's not there as a pass rusher yet. Then on third we need to see Harrison, slide Crouch down, Eason just find someone that can push the pocket. Our linebackers struggle to cover the middle of the field imo because our d line is weak, they are playing the run so aggressively that their first step is usually down or out which opens up the middle of the field.I think our defenses problem is more lack of effort than anything else. And not being able to stop the dang slant...
Let me get back to you on that question.

So you think that 175 yards passing and 2 TDs (what he had vs Bama) can beat aTM or Florida? This is the one point i can't agree with you on. Not to mention Bama didn't even blitz us and he still only completed like 54% of his passes vs them.My take on the QB situation...
- So, who gives us the "best opportunity to win"? Against the rest of the schedule, I honestly believe it is JG. I really wish it could be a better playmaking guy, but it is what it is. Since Miss State last year, JG has only had one loss to the average SEC teams. Will he ever be able to beat a UGA or Bama? No. But there are no more Bama's or UGA's on the schedule. I don't consider A&M or Florida on that level. If JG plays like he did against Bama, we could beat anybody the rest of the way.
