Thinking back to when Fulmer took over for Majors. That would have never happened if Tennessee operated the way we do now. I wasn’t as involved in Tennessee football as I am now, how was that viewed? We’re there issues involved besides winning?
yeah, it split the fanbase right down the middle. majors supporters/fulmer supporters were about as bad as dems/rep these days, back then...lol.
one of the few times i've almost actually gone to throwing hands at a football game was in the Memphis game that season, Johnny's last game after coming back from his surgery, and then being fired....and two jack legs behind us (i was maybe 17? but my grandparents, mom, daad, aunt/uncle and a couple of friends all went to the game) were lit up before the game even kicked off, and htey were hurling obsenities toward Johnny, talking about how "we want phil!" etc...
anyway, my grandmother turned around and said "hey, why don't you scream a little louder, i don't hink they can hear you in row 1"....and one of them said "why don't you turn around ans stfu you old.............."
before he could finish i was out of my chair and my buddy grabbed me had to hold me back............i was basically ready to get arrested........we exchanged a few "pleasentries", but i simply made it clear that if heard another word, it would be bad for him.
didn't hear another peep, and sometime during the 3rd qtr, he got up, and his knee hit my back and he immediatley reached down and said "whoa, sorry man".....
anyway....yeah, that season was so much fun....my heart rate goes up just telling that story..............lol.
