Stupid thought, but do could it be a situation where CJP thinks HB should be playing and CJC didn't get him ready? If the rumors of HB not being CJC's guy are true, this coupled with the shots CJP has taken at the offensive gameplan in the media over the past several weeks could coincide?

We've repeatedly bashed CJP for micromanaging this team, but what if what we're seeing on the field a byproduct of him doing just the opposite in allowing CJC and CDA complete control of their sides of the ball? There's no doubt based on his comments that CJP hasn't been thrilled with the offense, and no one will ever convince me that the pressure dialed up in the Arkansas game wasn't called by CJP to try to get us in position to get the ball back and win the game. So are we seeing CJP grow as a CEO figure of the program only to see poor results as a result of his coordinators?

Perhaps he's setting this thing up as we'd all hoped for in regards to the amount of resources he's been given (which is a structure that most UT fans would say was long overdue in being competitive). With the amount of analysts and support resources he has in place, he could make internal changes by merely promoting from within (Long/Osvelt) and backfilling more analyst positions.

It isn't a stupid thought at all. You've brought up a possibility I don't think many fans have considered, or think could be true. I'm not sure why everyone is so quick to jump on the "Pruitt is a micromanager" train; perhaps because he isn't popular right now, and that paints him in the worst possible light? I can see him being a micromanager on the defensive side of the ball since that's where his expertise is.

However, they're paying the OC almost $2m/year, and Pruitt doesn't have an offensive background. You don't pay OCs that kind of money to simply take orders from a HC. It seems entirely plausible to me that Pruitt is giving Chaney autonomy on the offensive side, Chaney and that staff hasn't gotten anyone else besides JG ready, and so Chaney keeps telling Pruitt that JG gives them their best chance to win. In fact, that seems more likely to me than Pruitt intervening and playing JG over Chaney's objections.

Don’t believe everything you hear. Chaney is the scape goat. QB decision is 100% on Pruitt. We are kidding ourselves if you think many things change by hiring another OC and assistants. We keep Pruitt and things are only going to continue to get worse. That’s all I will say on it.

Of course it's ultimately all on Pruitt - he's the HC and made the decision to hire Chaney.

However when you have a defensive coach as your HC, and he has an experienced OC on staff making almost $2m, I don't think the OC is there to just be an order-taker. The final call on starting QB is the HC's, but I bet you he's doing that under the strong opinion and advice from Chaney.

This is not true. Pruitt listens more to Weinke than Chaney. He is getting a lot of heat, but isn’t it weird how successful he was here before and at Georgia?

How do you know that for a fact? And why would Pruitt listen to someone like Weinke more than Chaney?

Also, I'll go out on a limb and say Chaney was more successful at Tennessee before and at Georgia because he had Tyler Bray and Jake Fromm as his QBs.

I know UF was his favorite team growing up. He would kill it there if that transfer rule is approved. He would start there next year easily and is fully capable of doing everything Trask does.

Edit: He would win the job at LSU too and be excellent there.

I didn't add SEC teams for a reason :(

The truth is Pruitt wasn’t ready for this job. We are going to pay a lot more next year when he is fired than firing him this year. We are going to have assistant buyouts and new assistant salaries. Then big buyouts on those assistants to make matters worse. This is our chance to keep ourselves respectable. We will not be good for another five years if we keep Pruitt another year.

It's maddening that UT always gives guys an extra year to go from needing a partial rebuild to a full rebuild when they inevitably get fired. What must be done eventually must be done immediately.

Didn’t Kirby move Chaney to TE coach and made someone else the QB coach while he was there?
yes, but that was an appeasement move for the guy they bumped up.....not necessarily a referendum on Chaney. it did make the fans happy.

......................until they saw the product, and they hired Monken to fix mistkae....lol.
