I have noticed that you tend to show up a lot more when things are going really bad. Admittedly, that has happened a lot since 2005, but I don't see you posting nearly as much when things look better. Maybe I just don't pay as close attention.I wonder if the calculation for Pruitt's job stability is going to go something like this:
We know it's going to cost roughly $20m to fire him and the rest of the staff. Not a small amount of money, especially in a pandemic, but they need to put asses in seats in 2021 and a lame-duck coach doesn't sell tickets.
So, to spend that amount of money, you have to think you can hire someone who will bring some juice to the program and starting digging us out of the deficit. (I happen to believe that the entire economy is going to take off like a rocket once we get everyone a vaccine, another stimulus check, and student loan debt is waived, but that's a conversation for the Politics forum.)
Anyway, what might happen is, Fulmer is tight with a large group of coaches around the country. That fraternity is small and they all know each other. So, he might have, let's say, 5 guys he'd be interested in hiring - maybe he puts some feelers out to gauge their interest. If he likes what he hears, he goes to boosters and says, we have to make a move.
I don't think we can fire Pruitt and then start a coaching search - you have to have a few guys in your pocket. Not just because it's good business practice, but because that might be the only way to get the go ahead to let Pruitt go.
I doubt he stays another year. He will take somebody's FU money to leave. Hopefully not SC. I don't think he wants to go there, but everyone listens to those big offers.I don’t think SC will get Freeze. Unless the Auburn position become available, I think he stays at Liberty for one more year. He is doing great there, no pressure, has a good Junior QB, and then can pick any job he wants in 12-14 months after COVID is gone. A normal year next year allows schools to generate the revenue needed to replace coaches.
I don’t think Pruitt gets fired this year either no matter the final record. Not being able to practice in the spring or summer will be the only excuse needed to keep him. Next year is his make or break year with HB as the QB.
Your description of Maurer is a great one and further highlights why it’s poor coaching that he plays like that. Grab him by the horns and make him play within a system and he’s probably our best QBNo disrespect but I honestly believe JG has been the most ready QB we’ve had all year. Mauer is an excitable erratic chihuahua back there just heaving the ball around. Shrout is trash. Bailey hasn’t been able to do anything all offseason.
If Pruitt didn’t take these 2-3 weeks to prep Bailey, and he rolls JG out there next week, I’ll be shocked.
That’s definitely true.I have noticed that you tend to show up a lot more when things are going really bad. Admittedly, that has happened a lot since 2005, but I don't see you posting nearly as much when things look better. Maybe I just don't pay as close attention.
The Holly situation is a little different. She was Pat's choice to succeed her at UT. Holly had the support of many long-time LV supporters and that made it harder to let her go, even after she demonstrated that the job was way too big for her. Pruitt does not have this inherent backing, nor was he named as successor by a legendary coach. How long did Fulmer give Warlick? Good chance Pruitt has 2 more years regardless of results. Its unfortunate but it is what it is
I was really impressed by this.Wow. Pruitt said that he was giving his coaches who took a pay cut money out of his own pocket to supplement their income. Has to get approval from the NCAA first, but that is quite a gesture. He really is a good dude.
