Your description of Maurer is a great one and further highlights why it’s poor coaching that he plays like that. Grab him by the horns and make him play within a system and he’s probably our best QB

I don’t know how to say this the right way but Mauer put it out there that he had planned his suicide down to the date. I have never been suicidal so I’m not judging here - but since then I have wondered where exactly his head is and how football could even be a priority.

What I’m trying to say is his lack of preparedness possibly isn’t an reflection of coaching, possibly. It’s likely that on top of all the COVID blah blah blah, the staff (or Mauer) might’ve spent this offseason focusing on his mental well being.

People are blowing the pay cut thing way out of proportion both ways imo.

But I will say this. It's not like these guys worked all spring and summer. They didn't have camps or workouts. They didn't have spring ball or recruiting visits to deal with. Heck they aren't even coaching an entire slate of games they were hired and paid to. Makes it all the more questionable to refuse anything.

My honest assessment is the lynch mob has fired up the torches and once that starts, it doesn't go away. Look for more negative news to come with every passing loss or blunder the staff pulls. There are people sitting around chomping at the bit to drop hit pieces on them all I'm sure. We've been here before and it happens every time.

Look at Hubbs recent negativity when we aren't even in a coaching search as well as some others who generally are trying to calm the masses, and instead are stoking the flames. Pretty telling the guy is strongly disliked behind the scenes if you ask me. Of course I may be completely off base

Also, based on that press conference I'd bet that HB gets the start.

Agree 100%. Noteworthy how CJP was quick to compliment HB without being prompted. Then when someone asked if JG was good to go this week, CJP again mentioned basically how yeah he would be but the young guys sure looked good.

i'd say that's probably fair, and warranted.

and not that it should be talked about all the time, but that has been overlooked when discussing his development.
maybe you can pick on the evaluation process...it may be that he had no business playing at this level........

but as for him developing...maybe he's reached his celing and he has other things that should be prioritized....by him...and for him by this staff....

Sounds like more of the young receivers too

Openly discussing being able to just go back to Bama if this job doesn't work out is a bad look.

How "open" was it? Things that take on a life of their own.

I guarantee you he didn't take this job expecting to fail and then go back to Bama. That could have easily been done last year.
