This has nothing to do with who anyone wants back but I was curious.

247 composite (except Kenneth George who gets the 247 ranking, Unranked in composite) rankings coming out of HS

Velus Jones - 3*
JG - 4*
Kenneth George - 3* juco
Brandon Johnson - 3*
Blakely - 3*
Dawson Stephens (who?) - n/a
Kennedy - 4*
Jahmir Johnson - 3*
Austin Pope - 3*
Jordan Allen - 4*
Palmer - 3*
Shamburger - 3*
Ty Chandler - 4*
Deandre Johnson - 3*
Theo Jackson - 3*
Nick Humphrey - n/a
Riley Locklear - 3*
Trey Smith - 5*
Bumphus - 3*
Butler - 3*
Middleton - 3*
Solomon - 5*

I left off specialists. 22 guys listed:

2 - 5*, 1 transfer
4 - 4*, 1 transfer
14 - 3*, 1 transfer
2 - unranked

Also Pruitt said he welcomes them back...didn’t say anything about a scholarship.

Theo Jackson has played good at times. Jahmir Johnson, Austin Pope, Trey Smith gone, hopefully Palmer stays, if defensive line recruiting continues to struggle maybe Deandre Johnson.

Unfortunately that list is mostly jobbers...Butch last full recruiting class was probably his worst.

I think we can all agree on that. I just don’t think it’s as simple as taking another $40 million bath just to be right back where we started.
The issue is we aren’t right back where we started in 2008. We are light years behind that with no evidence we are closing the gap on the field. We are getting beaten by multiple scores, at home, by Kentucky. Say that slowly, out loud to yourself , and think.

Scorching hot take, here. Basing your opinion as fact. As most do here.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
if you think there is another school in the entire country that is just waiting for Phil Fulmer to become available so they can snatch him up as an Athletic Director, you’re an idiot

We’re worse in many ways, but make no mistake, we were in bad shape then too. We were getting our doors blown off by Florida and Bama then too. Kiffin also inherited a team that was starting multiple walk ons on both sides of the ball.

That 2017 class was so bad

1 5* - Trey Smith
4 4* - Ty Chandler, Eric Crosby (medically retired), Maleik Gray (transferred to JUCO), Will Ignont (transferred to WKU).

2017 class had 5/28 players rated 4* or better (1 - 5*).

2018 class had 8/22 players rated 4* or better (all 4*).

2019 class had 12/22 players rated 4* or better (2 - 5*).

2020 class had 13/23 players rated 4* or better (all 4*).

Butch really F’d us talent wise with that 2017 class. And that was coming off 9-4 in 2016.

Finally!!! Been saying this for months but all I hear is “Pruitt is micromanaging Chaney and the offense” “Chaney has always been successful in the past...he didn’t forget how to call plays”

So Oklahoma won a national championship in the past running the Wishbone. Pretty sure you’re not going to win a Natty these days running that offense. The game passed Chaney by a long time ago. He runs an archaic offense predicated on having superior talent to be successful. Literally the least creative offense in the FBS.

The evidence on the field this year suggests you may be right. However, a quick look at his history shows a guy who has successfully run a spread passing attack (Purdue), a downfield pro passing attack (UT), and a pro style power running game (UGA). So, I can’t fathom why he now can find no other idea than a deliberate, simple, conservative, running attack. Something doesn’t fit.

He doesn’t trust any of the QBs.

Also our strength was supposed to be OL so likely trying to use that to our advantage.

I think you may be right. If that is the case though, I disagree with his strategy. The offence right now is so predictable and low-scoring as to guarantee losses. He needs to run an offence capable of competing and demand execution. If players can’t rise to the challenge, you lose anyway but at least you learn something

i think he did that early on. came out slinging in the USCe game and we all did that collective sigh when those first few intermediate and/or deep balls sailed incomplete....never got a lot better in that game...it was eviden as early as the 1st qtr of the 1st game that JG was the same old, same old.

we saw a sign of life in the MO game...then the 2nd half of the UGA Game...and the whole UK game happened. and it was back to square 1.

all that kid does is make game changing negative plays....picks, sack fumbles etc....that UK game was the same as the 2018 FL game. complete disaster at QB....

as for learning....i think they've had plennnnnty of learning experiences the past 3 years.

it didn't take....

which is why you go with HB. i think most of us can understand a true freshman that got zero off season will make mistakes, and we can live with that. as long as we see something that says "ok, i see the light again".

cause right now the light is off.

And yet none of the QBs are ready and our talented offensive line is very average. Comes down to coaching and development. We aren’t doing much of either.

Our offensive production is dead last in the SEC (rock bottom), and this is year 3. I’m not behind the scenes, so it’s hard to tell who is really at fault, but it’s definitely a fireable offense.

i agree on the O line. big disappointment.

on the QB's...they just are what they are, i can't sit here and say that i expected leaps and bounds by any of them. none of them exactly gave any of us reason to be overly confident.

though i will keep going back to it....if there was one group that needed this past off season that never was, it was our QB room....you have to factor that in when you talk development.

and competition. would have been a good thing to see all 4 go out and compete in the spring/summer/fall.

I agree with you, but I’m not sure your metric really holds any weight. Of course no other school would hire Phillip Fulmer as AD. He’s not an administrator. He’s a UT lifer and football coach.

We can argue whether it works out most of the time, but plenty of schools hire their own for that position.
