There’s obviously been plenty of off the field news with the story of eight of the assistant coaches not taking a pay cut and Phillip Fulmer getting his extension. The Fulmer extension isn’t a huge deal to most, but no one we talk to knows why they just didn’t release it back in May when Fulmer signed it. Fulmer has said he’s taking a pay cut and the change in his retention bonus was pretty small. Why they didn’t release it in May but did release Pruitt’s in September seems odd.
The story of the assistants not taking a pay cut has gotten the attention of media members nationally and it’s drawn plenty of reaction within the University from hourly wage employees, coaches in other sports as well as donors to the athletic department as well. It has not sat well with some that is for sure.
not a fan. i really do not like James Franklin. at all. i think i'd just get angry everytime i saw him on our sideline.Question, IF James Franklin becomes available is he someone that you would deem a good hire? I think he does better in the south plus he has great connections to high schools in Ohio now. To me would have to be right behind Freeze.
It’s amazing how a lot of these coaches were well respected and thought highly of before getting here. I think it’s more of an indictment of our head coach not being able to get along with assistants. Every year we are making big changes. If he gets another year, there will be another mass exodus. Eventually we need to realize the common denominator and move on.it's hard to be enamoured with these three at this point. and i don't put it all on Chaney, i don't think he's forgotten how to do this job.
but to say i expected more would be an understatement.
there's just no reason this o line should suck as bad as it does. none. and weinke...i'm not @Bassmaster_Vol level hate for the dude, and while i put a lot of the QB issues on just who we have at QB....they've not gotten ANY better at ANYTHING.....
we needed them to go from "disaster" to "doesn't suck out loud"...not "disaster" to tim tebow.....and i can't say we even made that modicum of progress at QB....so confidence there is at least a big "?". i'd be perfectly fine with firign CW and WF. take or leave Chaney....but we can do what we're doing on offense right now for A LOT cheaper than $1.6M, highest paid OC in the country................
No argument with Miller’s Crossing. It’s on my top movies...above The Usual Suspects. But Kevin Spacey earned that Oscar...too bad he was a monster off screen also. And any flick that can boast a good performance out of Stephen Baldwin is worth it’s salt.Guess i need to revisit I don't remember it being that remarkable. Just that you couldn't understand Del Toro. If we are talking Gabriel Byrne, give me Millers Crossing.
Coaches, at least the smart ones don't cheat any more. All that's handled by people in the shadows. That way the coach has plausible deniability. The coaches know it's going on but there's always separation to insulate him. It takes along time to get all.that in place. Ours is a ways behind the big boys. The people that fund these things have to be behind the head coach to participate. We've not had coaches here that people had the confidence in, at least for very long to really perfect or behind the scenes support programs. Until we get a coach that inspires these people we will constantly be playing catch-up.I read in my facebook memories how Hugh Freeze lost to Vandy in 2016. I also read that they started investigating Ole Miss in February 2016, and that was his first losing season. What he is doing at Liberty is remarkable, but I'm sure one nagging fear for any SEC AD, is that he will be watched closely.
Weinke absoltuely brings down our players. Every QB on our roster has not gotten better since he has been here. In fact, I would say they have regressed. That’s why I didn’t include them. I understood Chaney’s contract because it was what was needed to pry him away from UGA (Smart basically matched it), but Friend had one job...coach the damn OL. I defended him because unlike many, I recognized that every NC in college football history has been won without Sam Pittman as OL coach. He was the only one this fanbase would accept and that wasn’t happening even if he hadn’t landed the Arkansas gig...he would’ve retired at UGA. All you need is someone who can coach and develop the big uglies...recruiting picks up as you solidify your rep. Pittman wasn’t the recruiting beast at his other stops for a reason. Teach and develop well enough
at a top program and the 4 and 5 stars migrate like herds. He was spotted two 5 stars this season and we’ve seen crap. All things being equal and Weinke doesn’t weigh down your staff...contractually or as a coach. But he also doesn’t elevate. This has been a nightmare season for Chaney’s legacy and I don’t buy his trust issues with the QB’s. You run a scheme and adjust it to the talent...otherwise it’s malpractice.

that's fine. i just don't have any knowledge that is the case. we've all heard the stories about pruitt and his personality....so sure it's possible. i just don't know that to be true. It’s amazing how a lot of these coaches were well respected and thought highly of before getting here. Up for interpretation and a short sample size. He didn’t coach Guarantano his first season and got the best performance out of JG last season...uninspiring as it was it was BETTER. Maurer and Shrout are in the middle of their second seasons with him as their coach and they worked zilch with him last offseason. And we simply haven’t seen what Bailey’s capabilities. If Bailey shows promise, that won’t be on Weinke’s tic sheet. Even tho he has great relationships with Salter and Simpson, I’m not against a new face and input...but we exaggerate his failings in an attempt to explain the aggregate team failure.Weinke absoltuely brings down our players.
