It only takes 1 situation clicking for a turnaround - it’s just not obvious what the situation should be. A change in OC for Pruitt, an up and comer that turns out to be “the one”, an already successful major coach - who knows? With the right hire all could work and if not all could fail. Hope gets some recruits here but some success is what we need to put us in on the recruits to get to the next level.

Butch had same issues. Cause we hire up and comers and not proven winners.
The funny thing is, every name mentioned as someone we should hire is unproven. Their resumes are at or below what Butch's was when we hired him. Doing well at places like Louisiana and CCU proves nothing. Doing decent at any school, as have Campbell, Fleck and others, proves nothing.

Although Freeze may be the best available based on resume, I think it's a stretch to say he's a proven winner. We've proven there's no way we'd be satisfied if the best a coach does is one season where he loses 3 games with no championship as he has.

We need someone who has proven they can win big at P5 level, otherwise it's another crap shoot. All these coaches from P5 schools mentioned, we're "assuming" they'd do better here than at their schools. That's not "proven winner". And just being better than what we now have isn't acceptable either. If that's our goal, well Pruitt will eventually be better than he is now.

Anyone remember that awesome bagman article written a few years ago? Have a feeling we are experiencing this section right now. Talking about shadow boosters drying up funds when they want a coach out or realize he is a lame duck coach.
The coach won’t know exactly when we decide to make that happen, but they’ve got a good idea. Then we get to see just how damn good a recruiter he really is

Freeze has exceeded expectations everywhere he’s been, doing well in multiple conferences including the SEC.

Of course, you're assuming that an accomplished P5 coach would actually want to coach at UT. Coaches of the ilk you're describing usually have much better options than UT.

UT isn't going to attract a big-name, accomplished coach at this point. Freeze is the best shot at meeting your standard.

That article is so good.

Accomplished power 5 coaches like some are expecting don’t move unless weird situations like jimbo.

A lot on here thought “mehlan” wasn’t ready and hadn’t done enough. Hell some didn’t even want jimbo in conversations. Everyone is unproven to an extent especially at some point. It’s about identifying who’s a leader first and then a good football mind.

Stop getting caught up on resumes so much because they ultimately don’t matter. Just because someone had great years elsewhere doesn’t make it more likely they do it here just like someone who hasn’t had the opportunity yet couldn’t do it here.

He went 19-21 in the SEC. Is that doing well in the SEC? It wouldn't live up to our expectations. As a fanbase, we have lofty expectations.
He was at Ole Miss. same thing with people saying Mullen was meh. They were both at bad programs. Freeze is ten times the head coach that Pruitt is.

I won't disagree with the last statement, but I still question if he could live up to the expectations of TN fans. Many of you keep hyping him up, but I'm trying to live in reality. It's one thing to call him our best option, but many on here have practically guaranteed his success. It's like they've learned nothing from our programs history this last decade.

There are only a handful of coaches out there worth backing the Brinks truck up for, and those guys are either set where they are or out of the game.

The #1 prerequisite I’m hoping for in our next coach is that he’s a proven giant killer. I want a guy that has proven that he can win a few when he is outmatched from a talent standpoint. Nothing recruits like winning. If we get a guy that can win some big games within the first couple years, I think a winning Tennessee program will recruit itself to a large degree.

I’d like a guy that is proven QB developer too, because if you could pick one area in today’s game to always be competitive in, QB is it. But this is secondary to the giant killer.

Freeze fits that bill, and there are a few more out there as well.

If they backed off those lofty expectations would that satisfy you or would you move on to the next thing on the list of reasons why Freeze isn’t a fit for you?
