That’s not the right question. Does he win, that’s the question, and the rest takes care of itself. Dabo is proving that right now, he’s a clown, but he wins so he recruits well.

That’s the link, winning and putting guys in the NFL. That’s what kids want.
So to answer your question (?), no, he's not really proven he can win. His 2012, 8-5 record in the Big East and a 4 way tie for 1st place, is not really impressive. But like I said, I don't remember watching any of his teams.

What was his best recruiting class while he was at Syracuse? I don't necessarily mean how highly rated, who did he put in the NFL, when he was coaching Syracuse?

I want to survey the room:
Do y’all really trust Phil Fulmer to make great hires as AD? If so why?
(please give me something more than his love for Tennessee)
I hope... not necessarily trust, that given the time and resources (money) without interference from high level boosters, Phil could hire a quality coach.

I 💯 think he does not have the full deck necessary to make that play

I think he has Chandler Jones, Ryan Nassib, Justin Pugh and some others.

Ok. Thanks

I'll keep on hitting the Google machine. Maybe there's something I'm still missing with Doug Marrone.

*It seems like if he was to get hired, Vol fans would have to talk themselves into believing he could win big here. Almost seems like the past 4 coaching hires. I think we'd be coach shopping again in 3-4 years

Of course, you're assuming that an accomplished P5 coach would actually want to coach at UT. Coaches of the ilk you're describing usually have much better options than UT.

UT isn't going to attract a big-name, accomplished coach at this point. Freeze is the best shot at meeting your standard.
No, I’m not assuming that because I think you’re right. I’m just addressing those who think we can keep firing and then hiring the latest hot coach who won a couple of games he wasn’t expected to or was successful at a lower tier school, only to be upset when it doesn’t work here right away.

It's all @InVOLuntary's fault

Bored with all this. Just got to hold out until at least after Liberty's last regular season game or until the Vandy game. 10 Coaches I think would be better than what we have;
1. Freeze
2. Campbell
3. Sarkisian
4. Napier
5. Kiffin
6. Fickell
7. Chadwell
8. Brady
9 -10. Extreme longshots B. Stoops and Meyer

I wish we had Arkansas staff... They're going to be pretty good in a few years. I'd also still take Leach over Pruitt.
Not they won't. Briles will be gone next year and Odom will be gone shortly after that also. Pittman made excellent hires there, when they're gone, then what happens?

I remember having a discussion with you about Pruitt - I think it was in the middle of the season last year, maybe during the win streak.

We kinda went back and forth on whether or not you or I would bet that Pruitt ever wins the SEC here. You seemed confident that he would luck into one, even if it came as a down year for Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

I was less optimistic - and not necessarily because I thought Pruitt couldn't do it. But because I know how tough it is to win this division and this conference at Tennessee.

We're a historical brand - that's for sure. But in the last 40 years, we've only won the conference 5 times. We've won the division 6 times in 28 years.

So while you say you are SURE Hugh Freeze would get us to that level, I would push back and say there are very few coaches in the country that would be a sure bet given the fact that Florida and Georgia have clear and overwhelming advantages over us as a program, and we have to play Alabama every year.

So, you say you're willing to risk it all (in regards to either NCAA violations or the embarrassment a guy like Hugh Freeze could bring) on a sure thing, however, I am arguing, with historical precedent on my side, that Freeze is not a sure thing. And we don't get back to a position of relevance with a quick fix, dirty recruiting, thumbing our nose at the SEC hire.

Agree to disagree with a lot of what Kingston posts. But this post is spot on 🎯

People act like Pittman will have them contenders... they’ll never be more than 6-8 wins on good years unless they fluke a season like under Petrino.

Hypothetical: Freeze is hired.

Which Freeze Champion poster is first to turn on him when he
A. Doesn’t win more than 6 games by year 3

OR

B. Gets UT in huge trouble and sanctioned by NCAA?

Go.
So many names to pick from. You better be giving my ridiculous odds.

For everyone who points to Freeze’s record in the SEC I’d imagine he’s grown quite a bit as a coach since then.

During an NFL game this past week I heard them talk about how Dan Quinn had hired someone to interview 40 different people (former players, assistants, coaching rivals, front office people, etc.) to evaluate him as a coach. This was a way to self scout and get better. All good coaches do this in order to grow and get better.

I’d bet Freeze has done this too.

But again, don’t fire Pruitt unless you have someone equal to or better than Freeze.

Y'all are gonna think I'm crazy, but I'll admit to being a little Bri-curious. Feels like we need an offensive-minded, innovative coach.
