I'm not saying they should hire Steele, either.
But the fact remains... That was the plan. Pay 22 million to get rid of one person, and that will fix the team. The 22 million dollar cancer. That's the guy y'all want us to scoop up. It's insane.
You really can’t include the Kick 6. If anything that was won bcuz of a poor decision to send a kicker who can’t kick it that far. It was essentially a punt return. To hold that against a coach is..... odd. Not to mention he’s the one who sent a guy out there. So two plays miracle at Jordan-Hare and untime played is all you can come up with? Uhhh okLol k. Kick 6. Miracle at Jordan hare... The untimed play against LSU that wound up getting miles fired... Hell the 100+ yard pick 6 against us..
I agree it's football, it happens.. But it's happened a lot to him, in some really big games.
Bottom line I think Auburn won, at times, in spite of Gus, not necessarily because of him.
I don’t think it’s that since I do feel like Gus would stabilize the program but many contribute Kevin Steele to much of his success in the recent years because it wasn’t his offense really. Some of y’all would really rather hire a coach who’s only coached at the FBS level for a few seasons (never at P5) than a coach who’s won the hardest division in football multiple times and never had a losing season. Uhhh ok
I don’t understand the fascination with Kiffin. He would be lucky to be considered a top 20 HC and cannot be counted to stay anywhere long enough to rebuild a program.Replace Campbell with Kiffin and bump Gus to the bottom and that should be your list. Your.Only.List. I mean if they are serious about winning big in the SEC.
I get that. It doesn’t necessarily excite me either. I’d much rather have Campbell or Freeze. But I’d rather hire Gus than a coach who’s never even coached in a P5 conference let alone be a proven winner in that conferenceI've been very clear. I believe Freeze is the right guy for several reasons. He can be had. He checks the boxes coaching wise. He's right at that elite tier IMO. Considering the mess right now, I think he's the perfect guy for the job. Both Tennessee and him can re-invent themselves together. Also, he would definitely excite the fanbase and sell a lot of tickets.
Call it a gut feeling or whatever, to me he is the obvious choice.
After that, I would say Campbell, Chadwell or Napier, not necessarily in that order..
I get the logic behind hiring Gus and respect those of that opinion. I'mdefinitelynot going to call someone dumb as hell for wanting him, I just don't get "the feels" for him. The hire doesn't excite me at all.
Unless you believe they may have formally terminated/agreed to terms but also agreed to hold on the announcement for optics given Pruitt’s family situation. No insight into what’s actually going on behind the scenes, but there’s enough to suggest they’re at minimum having conversations and trying to lock-in on a replacement candidate.Guys they’re not flying around the country interviewing coaches when he is officially still employed. Putting the cart before the horse here.
I'm pretty sure it's the second part. When I was working, we had a situation where our boss was told to fire someone pretty close to him. He balked and then was told " if you don't fire him, I'll fire both of you". Guess what happened? Only one left the company. Fulmer can't do anything for Pruitt if both of them are fired.I wonder how much of Fulmer fighting hard for Pruitt was genuine and how much was a show for Pruitt so he could say I want to keep you but it's out of my hands
