Not having multiple quality players hit the transfer portal. We would be in for another 5 year rebuild unless we get a guaranteed winner which isn’t going to happen. Read Deerpark12 posts the last few days. It completely changed my perspective on the current predicament.
You can't stick with a guaranteed loser because you aren't sure if you can get a guaranteed winner. We are going to be in for another multi year rebuild because next years class is probably going to be really bad with a dead man walking the sidelines as head coach.

Mullen was always going to Florida. We could have had Mullen if we fired Butch a year earlier when we should have.

And Mullen would have left the next year, if UF offered and ponied up.

In today's environment, Coaches are mercenaries. Unless they're where they want to be, money talks and they walk.

You can't really blame "old money" for not fixing problems when "young money" won't step up and fix them, either. People are too invested in taking sides when coming together is the answer.
They better start getting along. They may be the only ones supporting this university soon. Fanbase is checking out.

Our admin has its own version of the “deep state”. No matter how hopeful we may become, we are just pawns and will march right along, buying $7 hot dogs, paying for new bleachers to be installed and just deal with whoever they trot out as our next coach. You know why? Because they know we’re loyal to the T and will support them no matter what. That is until this up and coming generation who doesn’t know of the days of winning take over all decision making. I’m afraid we’ve seen our best days.

I think missing out on next years in-state recruiting class results in another 5 year build anyway. Might as well get a head start.

Truth.

Kids in the state of Tennessee haven’t grown up to see us relevant. Nothing more than a punching bag for Bama, Florida, and Georgia.

There's something to be said for Chadwell that we all know our job would absolutely be the peak of the profession for him.

It's also, ironically, the reason the blowback against Pruitt has been so overwhelming and unanimous among the fanbase. We know he'd jump for another job the second it was (hypothetically) offered.

Hell, my dumb@$$ was against Jimbo at the time thinking he was washed. I am the prince of clowns
You aren’t the only one. That’s why I think Gus would be a good hire. He has had success in the SEC. I get why people don’t like that hire though and I don’t think he would want to jump right back in after being fired and getting paid.

The thing is, I really wanted Pruitt to succeed. He looks and acts like a football coach. (Crazy that we have to specify that after our last couple of hires) From what I hear, his knowledge is off the charts. The problem is, it’s not translating to wins or even progress this year. I’m still of the mind that if he had moved on to JG earlier, there wouldn’t be so many people calling for his job. He also has looked and acted different on the sideline this year.

Not true. If we would have "overpaid" at the time for Mullen, he wouldn't have waited out Florida and Chip Kelly.

What I didn't get is why we did "overpay" for Mullen. Getting a solid coach while screwing up our rival's backup plan would have been worth the money.

Fanbase is starting to check out. Attendance totals prove it. They are getting more and more fed up. And the younger generation could care less. I bet we average 60k next year if Pruitt survives. And less every year we keep him. We are literally waving the white flag.

Yeah, the Deerpark logic just doesn’t work under the current circumstances. If we had a Gus type season this year, then waiting a year for better options might be a reasonable approach. But we absolutely tanked in comical fashion, and now have an NCAA cloud over our heads.

That's basically what I'm saying. Old money knows what it means to have UT football as a powerhouse. What that does for the university, the Knoxville economy and what it means on the state level as well. Young money has been going to games for the last 15 years and it's more of a social event rather than the product on the field. And seems like old money has been footing the bill for a while now and is kind of second guessing their investments.

I mean, it's pretty obvious his source is Tee Martin, right? Both are from South Alabama, I'm pretty positive he was out front on Tee coming back here and he was the only one providing updates on the Tee-South Alabama HC position. Additionally, he was the one that had the lead on Velus Jones being interested in transferring here two years ago and then again when he transferred here last year. Velus is also from Mobile, so is Tee, Tee obviously coached him at USC and here.

A lot of counkidinkes there that’s for sure.

One of the many reasons Fulmer shouldn't be AD. He's a divisive figure that has zero chance of bringing the two sides together. We need an AD that can actually mend fences. I respect everything Fulmer has done for this university, but he's not AD material, IMO.

You guys are crazy. You are trying to fire our Dabo. I can’t deal with you idiots. Let’s check the stats.
1. Dabo was a guy that was promoted within the program. Pruitt well ummm...
2. Dabo keeps his staff for a long time and that creates continuity. Pruitt well ummm...
3. Dabo creates a winning culture. Pruitt well ummm...
4. Dabo uses Christianity to build a culture. Pruitt well ummm.

After think about it they have nothing in common, but you guys are still idiots. 😁

Surprised no one has responded to this, especially Kingston...

And yet we can’t poney up for a real quick?
oh we've ponied up. just get told "no". while i agree with @LA Vol on his previous statement, i'm not so sure money is a primary motivator anymore.

mullen would have left for FL had he been here or not, i'm not even sure we even got to the point of making him an offer in 2017? Rather, he waited to see what happened at FL first....so i don't know that money would have swayed him our way regardless.

but we offered Gundy a boat load of cash, twice, and he told us no both times.

we over paid big time for Shoop and we've waaaaayyy overpaid for Chaney. I don't think being cheap is our issue....we've got an OL coach right now making nearly a million/year and i think we all agree that's kind of ridiculous.

it's everything else.......

Most coaches would jump for another job. For most, it's all about the money. Contracts don't hold people when schools are willing to pay outrageous sums to get the name they want.
