Yup that #7 and #4 class was so lowly rated. If Butch was a bad recruiter than what makes you think Mullen wouldn’t come in and recruit top 10 classes? Foh
We saw how good those classes actually were but more to your point, Butch is a better recruiter than Mullen so he wouldn't even have landed those pieces. Florida recruits itself and he can’t even get in the top 10. All moot...was always going to choose them over us.

I am sure this has been posted somewhere on here before, but does anyone think the recruiting allegations magically "go away" or get resolved quietly if Pruitt is ultimately fired?

What I mean by this is that the story comes out to build even more justification for firing him, but after he's gone it goes "away" too, so as to not scare any potential replacements?

no, i got the point.

it doesn't make any sense. there was no FL offer. he was making whatever he was making at MSU, and we offered, $6/7M/year for however many years, likely doubling his salary or somewhere around there.
and if iirc, the meeting with Mullen happened before the Schiano deal, so that likely means Mullen was #1 or at least #1a on our list.

so zero in one hand, our offer in the other, and he chose to wait and see would happen at FL....not even knowing that he'd even get that call, he waited.

and when he got that call, he stopped returning our calls....and took what amounted to be the same deal somewhere else. he could have gotten us in to a bidding war to see how far we'd go, and didn't. Money wasn't the primary motivator....
Any sources on this? I'd like to read them.

Mullen and his camp always knew and were told by Stricklin that he would have shot at job if things broke down with Chip Kelly.

To say there was no guarantee that Mullen would get a call from Florida is just not accurate. Especially considering the only offer Mullen had in hand (from Tennessee) was around the same amount of money that Florida was putting out there for its coaching search.

I don’t know how many times I have to say this, but I know from two different people (one of which is on the S&C staff now at UF) that they all thought they were going to Knoxville, but Strickland swooped in and dunked on Currie at the last minute when their other options turned them down.

Thanks for proving my point development>recruiting, bud.

The guy was born in Cookeville. It’s not inconceivable that he would hold this job in higher regard than Auburn.
no, it's not. and he was at Bama for a while, so he likely knows the situation at Auburn relatively well, and he probably knows the situation at TN relatively well.

and at the end of the day, aside from Auburn having the better w/l record recently, which is a definite consideration, there's really not a lot separating TN and Auburn, situationally. both jobs have the same basic challenges for any head coach. and the same basic opportunities. admin/boosters have been issues at both. we play basically the same schedule with us both having bama and uga to deal with. they have lsu, we have fl, but they have aTm to deal with. recruiting is the same for both of us.....fan bases are comparable, though i do think ours presents itself differently. wider footprint.

anyway. you get the idea. i don't think turning down auburn = turning down TN. it may simply be a personal preference.

and then there's the fact our job isn't open, and he still has one. so....it isn't really anything yet lol....
