I wouldn't blame them one bit. Damned if I would come in knowing right off the bat my DC (or whoever) has more authority than I do as head coach.. It's a huge red flag for future problems..Well you are entertaining hiring coaches from the likes of UAB and Louisiana. Not like you're gonna give those guys full range right away. Neither is wrong or right, but I'm surprised guys who have been waiting for a big time job offer like Clark and Napier, turn it down over a "condition" that a solid DC would have to stay.
It ain't like Tennessee in 2010 saying the new coach had to keep some Kiffin holdovers.
Steele may be a dirtbag, but he's good at his job. Surprised all these G5 coaches would say no to him being DC. I get why Sark or Mario and others would. But people have been talking about "if only" guys like Napier And Clark could get a big job offer.
And that he's apparently thier first choice for the job you're taking but the fans hated that idea.I wouldn't blame them one bit. Damned if I would come in knowing right off the bat my DC (or whoever) has more authority than I do as head coach.. It's a huge red flag for future problems..
Seriously though, the way Phil is all in for Pruitt, if he's cut loose, there's no way Phil is involved in that or the next hire.. Annnd Phil stubbornness could very well get him canned.
