Curious - IF JP comes back, what is a record where you would be ok with him moving forward? If he goes 9-3 (lost to big 3 but beat all 4 OOC, UK, VU, Miss, Scar, Mizzou) next year is he on the right track and you can blame COVID/JG and 2020 was just a weird year?
Doesn’t matter what we think, if they aren’t going to fire him for going 3-7 they aren’t going to fire him for going 6-6. Even 5-7 might have him back for 2022. That’s how much our administration doesn’t care about winning.

Sure they would

If he comes back he’s gone unless he goes 7-5

the rest of the staff. sounds like OL coach could be in play as well as DL, DC, LB....maybe another spot too.

they'd have to use 2 year deals to get any quality guys to sign up at this point, but assuming they do, then there's still an opportunity to put a good staff together (body of work says don't bet on it though).

maybe i'm putting too much in the FU, but just going off the sh8t sandwich comment.

point being, if they retain pruit, it's not the goal to alienate the fans. i think it's a bigger statement on where this job ranks right now. and it may be better served for this administration and AD to focus their attention on really giving this guy EVERY opportunity to be successful....again.

and i'm not saying i'm for that....i'm not. but if retained, i think that's more likely than any subliminal or overt message to fans and their appetite for TN football.
Yea i mean that makes more sense and i wasn’t trying to attack you... i guess it’s harder for me to stomach Bc i seen first hand how Pruitt was handed every single thing he could possibly need to succeed here... much more than Dooley or butch ever had and still managed to screw it up time and time again.

Also, The whole covid excuse that they keep trying to point to is also sickening to me as well because it doesn’t add up. If we had been bad at the first of the year due to missed practices and such but got better fine. But we looked better early and just absolutely fell apart and got worse every week as the season went on. So that just totally shoots that excuse down the drain.

we do this every off season....and it doesn't matter, because once we see the games played, the "how" comes in to focus and each win and loss looks a certain way thru the "eye test" lens.

9-3, would be ridiculously good coming off this year, no matter the lens.

I really think the game has passed up Chaney. His offense was great in the mid 2000s. But, he loves to draw up long-developing routes without an elite O-line or elite WRs. You have to have those for that to work. We also run a lot of routes where we catch the ball at a stop.

Today, you have to use motion, mis-direction to confuse the defense even for a split second. You need quick throws to get the ball to your playmakers in space to avoid sacks. Drags, rub routes, slants, crosses. Let our receivers catch the ball on the run. Instead we run mostly hitches

Here's my problem: You can't blame JG without also blaming Pruitt, so that's a non starter. And, we've seen Pruitt take a massive talent advantage and turn it into the worst home loss in history, after a full off season with no other excuses. His floor is very very low.

I'd say he should've been fired week three last year, has only dug that hole deeper, and unless he does something insane like win the east next year he should be fired.

But that's like saying I get to keep my job if I win the lottery. The odds are so low that it's not even worth the risk.

That said, 8 wins and I'd probably convince myself he deserves another year because I want to believe we can ever be pointed in the right direction again.

If you say so. I think bringing him back means they’re committed to him through 2022 unless things totally fall apart. 6-6 gets him 2022 imo maybe even 5-7. If they don’t fire him for this awful 3-7 season any form of improvement will be sold as reason to bring him back another year.

It's just pure laziness and egotism and stubbornness at this point. We are really gonna trot out a 3-7 coach with a staff full of P5 rejects who are only in Knoxville for a quick payday. Then we will get utterly blown out by our rivals, recruiting will tank, kids will transfer, and the program will be an utter dumpster fire again, which will severely limit our options for head coach...especially with all the likely openings next year.

Don’t forget the super fans who’ll still criticize you for not supporting this garbage.

Pruitt needs to go, but Gus ain't the answer...he will fail and be hated in three years just like Pruitt unless he does what I said earlier and hire an outstanding OC and DC..

Put in a position to hire Gus or keep Pruitt with reasons for him to stay for 2+ years.

I’m not keeping Pruitt if I’ll fire him anyway. It’s the same outcome if Gus fails.

yes I was, but I trust Hubbs more than anything I might be personally hearing.

They’ve moved on to staff discussions, which tells me what I need to know.

Keep in mind where everyone gets their info including Hubbs' crew. Their past 24 hours has been filled with non-answers and educated speculation. Not a single new fact has come out. I don't believe this is anywhere near over yet.
