So the HC who has that drive to win, put Bagman Nieds as the ILB coach. Nieds had shown no real history as an ILB coach. He did that the year after D leader Bituli leaves while having to develop two RB's into ILB's. Pruitt made that decision along with firing his newly hired DL coach after the 4th game for the entire coaching fraternity to see.

Is that working hard and not wanting to fail? If so, he qualifies.

I hope this year humbled the s$) out of him, and he picks himself up off the mat and turns this thing around.

I believe if you told Pruitt he could:

1) Have the full buyout check and a job at Bama as DC.
2) Return to UT and coach in 2021

He would take option #1 1000/1000 times.

Just speculation, but Eeyore hasn't been in front of a microphone in quite some time. I'm no CSI detective but he was clearly miserable the last few times he spoke to the media.

UT is always landing all their blows in the offseason until those 22 first team all Americans have to actually touch the field and try to get lined up correctly.

Clemson had the fewest (3), Kansas and Miss. St. had the most, with 21 each. Tennessee was right behind those, with 20.

I agree about GSU. Absolutely zero excuse for that game. They didn’t even prepare for them and treated it like a scrimmage. Really dumb.

Disagree about BYU. JG was awful that game, and if you remember, Maurer was inserted 2 weeks later against Fl so they weren’t sticking with him like they did this year. Also, the play call wasn’t bad to end the game, AT made a mistake. He did the wrong thing there

The dumb part of treating GSU like a scrimmage was that Bituli and Thompson were out. I know, I know, we should beat GSU with our 3rd stringers. But we started a true freshman at LB, had almost an entirely new front 7 except for Taylor, and started a true freshman Burrell at CB.

I agree with you that BYU was all on JG.

Look the best way he gets all his buyout $ is for him to fail next year.

ok....I'm not up to speed on Knox County/Knoxville current guidelines other than to assume they are still just as restrictive as ever....did UTK double down on restrictions from Knox?
what, if anything, has changed with regard to these guidelines that will make it less likely for the cycle to repeat itself again?

I'd like to see proof of that first statement because I don't think it's true -unless you're talking about last Spring. I just looked at UTK website - dorms were open this past Fall, but not common areas, and students are being welcomed "back" this Spring (have to have weekly saliva tests, or at least they're strongly encouraged). I think UT football players MAY have been impacted more by differences in how contact tracing was handled here than at some other schools, but not even sure of that.

It's like I was transported in time 9 months into the future. I'm sure then when Pruitt actually does get fired he can be inducted into the UT hall of shame with Dooley and Butch where everyone basically agrees they can see the obvious.

Let's go back to the 6 game win streak in Season Two. How did that happen? Clue - defense and schedule.

Defense: 21.7 PPG and Top 30 in Year Two. So how did that happen? With the Year Two staff and senior leaders. Add in the schedule was against lesser performing teams. Year Three - 30.1 PPG. A negative difference of 9.4 PPG. Significant decline against a tougher schedule.

Offense: Year three with 3 less games, but two more SEC opponents - 21.5 PPG. Year two - 24.2. Backwards against a tougher schedule WITH THE SAME QB, SAME RB's. SAME O-LINE. Backwards because senior leaders JJ and Quez were gone from the WR's.

Bituli was the D leader in Year Two. With him out they lost to Georgia State. Warrior's light did not come on until the 4th game or so. When it did the D became good against the weaker schedule. Bituli and Warrior moved on. D regressed because there were no quality replacements due to the staff's non-development and dare we mention it - lack of recruiting quality replacements. Which supposedly is Jeremy's strength.

But let's hope for a miracle in 2021.

if Pruitt doesn’t change his ways he can’t win here.

much like ole miss was for EDo and 2016 was tor Brian Kelley 2020 can be that wake up call for Pruitt. Will he do it and change? We may never know if he’s fired now but with the hiring of Steele is seems at least possible he might slide toward more of the CEOtype

Got a question how is this offense suppose to score points when we couldn’t last season only with the Same coaches that could not get lined, penalties and etc i dont think just changing ol coach will get it done several need to go. I hate being negative all the time, things just don’t change and haven’t in years. But i love my VOLS just want to be in top 10 most to all the time. Notre Dame and Texas A&M run basically the same offense and both finished as top 5 teams

We beat Mizzou by 23 before their QB change. Bama beat them by 19 the week before. Wonder if they expect to lose to Mizzou next year.

Mizzou was blown out by Miss St in the last game of the season. Miss St finished 3-7.

Alabama just won a national title after being undefeated--I do not believe our situations are similar.

Missouri, unlike UT, played better throughout the year. They were also installing a new system under a new HC---whereas we were in year 3. UT was fortunate Bazelak didn't start and play more of that game considering he ended up the year 5th in the SEC in passing and would have been 4th if he had started the entire year.

I think it was @BruinVol who said it first and I agree - all Pruitt has done through this mess is go to work, put in the effort and try to make the Vols better.

He has that drive. He doesn’t want to fail. He doesn’t want to quit.

These are signs of a winning mentality.

I’m pulling for him.

I appreciate that he's working hard. But there are 99 other things he needs to be doing better.
