What's gonna really be the most Tennessee thing is we do actually turn this thing around and have a bowl ban on us. Have a crazy good year and still be in misery from no postseason.
I keep seeing posters talking about the margin of our losses as if that stat has been a true consistent indicator over the course of history.
watching the playoffs should have made us realize that discussing that stat really doesn’t matter anymore.
I did some research to prove my point and how much the game has just changed over the the short time period of 5 years.
2015:
SEC games only
Ave point diff was 14 pts
34% of games were decided by 7 pts or less
26% of games were decided by 20 or more pts
2020 :
SEC games only
Ave point diff was 18.5 pts
23% of games were decided by 7 pts or less
45% of games were decided by 20 or more pts
So as we discuss what’s makes next year a successful season I think it’s time we stop even discussing margin of games we might lose. It’s w\Ls that matter and it’s just a fact that nearly half of all SEC games are now going to be 20pt blowouts.
Where do I send my 9.99? TIA!Guys, my contact has let me know that Pruitt might get fired and might not. Also said we might just keep Pruitt and add a couple more position coaches because a couple have expiring contracts, but we might keep some of those too. Said it was also a fluid situation right now and it could get cold and freeze. Tifwiw
I am not convinced that Pruitt can fix the defense. Everyone seems to think that is a foregone conclusion. We were absolutely putrid on defense last year. Yes, offense was worse, but our D was probably the second worse in the conference just ahead of Ole Miss.
The only time he has had a top defense was when he had more talent then everyone. Every coach that goes to Bama looks good. He was very average at UGA and he has shown here he doesn't know how to scheme unless he has more talent. Not really. We’re talking about a guy who’s had top flight defenses at three different major programs. Had a top 30 defense in year two here. I’d have to think with Pruitt, Steele, potentially Ansley being on staff that the defense should be pretty good next year.
On VQ too I believe and just watching games he started looking different. Begin holding the ball too long for one. How the coaches handled him rattled his confidence
I’d argue that no defense isnt going to be fixed by anyone anymore. Defense is dead everywhere
Pretty sure he fielded a top ten defense at Georgia his last year. His first year I believe they were top 20. That’s not average. The only time he has had a top defense was when he had more talent then everyone. Every coach that goes to Bama looks good. He was very average at UGA and he has shown here he doesn't know how to scheme unless he has more talent.
6 SEC teams gave up more PPG than Vols
5 SEC teams gave up more yards than Vols
3 SEC teams gave up more pass yds than Vols
9 SEC teams gave up more rush yds than Vols
Well why didn’t you go with Saban, and Dabo since you are just naming coaches.... the only coach on that list that has proven it is Campbell..... Franklin has but he just had a horrible season.... the rest were successful at a lower level besides Tom Allen and mark stoops who are far from proving it on a consistent basis.Kiffin, Freeze, Malzhan, Napier, Chadwell, Mark Stoops, Campbell, Franklin, Fickell, Tom Allen, Herman and Lance Leipold... would you like me to continue? For the record, Leipold is a wild card but that dude was like 109-6 in d3 and has won BUFFALO an avg of 8 games the past 3 years..
There was no plan. There hasn't been a plan at QB for 3 years.Def held ball too long. And Weinke is garbage.
The bolded tho - I just don’t see how this can be true. This board went bananas when he’d be taken out of the game despite the announcers saying pre-game that there was a plan to play both QBs. If the announcers knew about the plan, I’m guessing HB also knew about the plan.
