Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

Snippet from Orange Throat this morning. Lots of other good nuggets in there about the back story starting in 2017:

Many are mistaking the investigation as an all-out mission by UT to get rid of Pruitt and save $12.7 million. Reasonable minds will decide otherwise when the sordid details are revealed in the coming days, weeks and months. Pruitt and agent firm CAA are rattling sabers about legal action and will probably file something, but the facts will make Pruitt look like he's playing with the legal equivalent of Jarrett Guarantano at QB. There might be a token settlement of some kind but don't count on it. Further, Pruitt is probably untouchable right now at another college program.

The lessons from past coaches from “Mitch” was interesting. I like the lessons from Lane and Pruitt... don’t hire someone who doesn’t admire your brand and your fans. Both treated us like a side-piece, and was either looking around the room (Kiffin) or trying not to be seen in public with us (Pruitt).

We could probably look back on his comments and see the point where he got tired of not have a roster of five stars and decided to replace his best position coaches with a staff of recruiters.

Luke Fickell doesn't get enough love in here I don't think. We should keep bringing him up.

These "hot" guys are not going to touch us. Fickell is waiting in B10 job. I think same for Campbell or NFL. We'll be lucky to get a Kiffin or Herman. Probably more like Clark or Chadwell. Honestly Neal Brown would be #2 call after Kiffin.

I guess I'm just sick of us hiring coaches that are a**holes. Some coaches want to suck the fun out of the building and I hate it. That is what we usually do and O'Brien fits perfectly into that mold.

Maybe he would be our a**hole. I would eventually get on board but I would be super grumpy about it.

Most great coaches are a-holes. If you're a stereotypical "nice guy," I don't think you'll do well as a big time football coach. You have to have some type of edge to your personality because the job is so competitive and performance-based.

I wouldn't jump through the ceiling for O'Brien, but he did navigate PSU's situation and stabilize them quickly. Not to mention they were competitive, even with a god awful OL and a project at QB.

Kiffin and Freeze also highly qualify under the "navigating a s*** show" pain points

I still wish we would put our money where our mouth is and get a 2-for-1 straight from Iowa St with their AD and head coach. It's an expensive, but complete solution.

Even better! I also think O'Brien can get guys like Mayo and Witten on his staff. Would be nice to have VFL's with big time names like that on the staff.
Mayo’s on an upward trajectory in the NFL after only two seasons coaching. I don’t see him rebooting at a lower level, even with it being his alma mater. Very possible he lands a HC gig staying his present course.

And y’all realize that Fulmer was probably given a choice right?

Step down or be publicly fired again. Those that say Fulmer had nothing to do with it are just lying to themselves
Fulmer getting a parade on the way out was definitely best case for him. Think he's picking out a hiding spot to weather the incoming storm when the details start breaking?
