I want Ingram like most here but I don’t think the mud slinging toward Gilbert is fair. Sure he was at Bama for a long period of time but that was a long time ago AND his son wears orange and white now. Barnes is the best thing our university has going now and if he wants him that’s good enough for me
There are state requirements that most job openings must follow. Now there are ways around the procedure of days being posted and number of required number of interviews but it’s my understanding there has to be some kind of “emergency” used to get around those requirements.
I wonder if there is a limit on “emergency” exceptions and we don’t need to use that on the AD and use it when hiring a coach
I looked at some numbers related with several HC candidates mentioned on VN. I only looked at records associated with collegiate head coaching experience, regardless of level of competition. I also arbitrarily identified candidates with a minimum of 4 seasons as a HC. I excluded each candidates worst season (should have also excluded the best season, but I did not). As a result, below are the overall winning percentages rounded to nearest whole number.
Based on the above percentages, one coach somewhat stands out. I was intrigued by this because I have been on the "Do Not Want" side if the fence for this candidate. But now, I have a little different perspective. I still have my preferred candidate based on other extreneous variables and intangibles, but just thought this was interesting.
Tom Herman
Coach 1 is Fleck, Coach 2 is Freeze, Coach 3 is Clark, Coach 4 is Kiffin, Coach 5 is Campbell, Coach 6 is Chadwell, and Coach 8 is Malzahn
I think the issue with Herman is his winning percentage, while higher than the others, is lower than it should be. Guy is in a talent rich state with basically unlimited resources in a middle of the pack conference.
He should have been running the table like Clemson. Granted he's had a good Oklahoma program to contend with but he should easily be top dog in that conference with his resources.
Not saying I wouldn't be excited if he's hired. I just see why some people aren't high on him.
Exactly. Would expect this for optics. If you hire a guy within a few days, it appears this was set up prior to the termination, which gives support to Pruitt's claims. This will also allow the search firm to do due diligence on backgrounds, etc. of the hired individual to further protect the university.
I don't understand why everyone wants Lane so bad.
I mean besides what he did to us and would have to do to Ole Miss by leaving after a year, showing he hasn't changed, his record isn't THAT outstanding. Had two good seasons. But people are clamoring for him like he's a superb option. Just because he wants to come back.
Occasionally he gets a play right for big yardage so he can throw his clipboard in the air and run down the sideline but his play after play calling doesn't make him out as some wunderkind.
I'm not sure his recruiting has held pace from his season here either.
I just don't get the Lane or nothing love.
I don’t think it will be Steele. I have a hard time believing that Plowman would sign off on hiring Fulmer’s (real) first choice for head coach right after she’s just finished firing his second choice.
Money talks though. I haven't researched it like others, but if he was able to raise 100 million I think I read to build the stadium at UAB that's impressive.
No. They can dress it up however they want to, but hiring Kevin Steele is an admission to the fanbase by the administration that they’re no longer serious about competing in the SEC. A true “give up” hire.
Ingram- played at UT. Has done a tremendous job everywhere he has been raising funds as well as a natural leader in building a program. Great and successful resume.
Gilbert- Barnes recommendation. Bama guy. Tried to run off Pat Summit along with Dave Hart. Played large part in rebranding Lady Vols and hiring of Tyndall. Has done literally nothing at ECU or advanced their athletics in any way.
..........yeah **** Jon Gilbert. Gimme Mark Ingram 6 days a week and twice on Sunday.
