But they said they wouldn't hire the next coach until AD was hired and then he would take over. Now I know we can say well HC isn't hired yet officially. I hope that's true cause I worry about hiring assistants before the new HC is hired cause we are putting ourselves in the position that Auburn was in telling possible HC's to except Steele and Garner. Now let me be clear, I think hiring both is great and I welcome it, just wonder how the candidates for HC is going to like not being able to bring in who they want. Just a discussion response.

Definitely feel like this search will be a one shot fired type, I’m sure our local sports media will flap their gums & speculate some names.

But I think when the time comes it’ll be wrapped up and announced with little media knowledge prior.

So was Pruitt. You saw our defense this year. I'm not trying to argue, Ron, but I'm past hearing about how great "so-and-so" is only to watch them come here and fall flat on their face. How many coaches have we talked ourselves into the last 10-15 years? I'm tired of hearing about it, I want to SEE it. Hell, when Chaney was hired, people talked up him up as a great hire because of his past. Look at how we talk of him now. I'll believe it when I see it on the field.
I think you’re confused. Steele is an excellent DC. I’m not saying he’d be a good HC. Pruitt was also an excellent DC but he proved to be a terrible HC.

There’s a ton of evidence that Steele is an excellent DC if you look around. Not sure why you’re needing to wait and see how he would do at UT as a DC.

the proven winners as a HC would eliminate Steele...

Exactly. I've met Boyd a few times and just based on my interactions and knowledge of some of his business ventures, he likes to win and doesn't take no for an answer. There's a reason he, along with a few others, ponied up the extra funds to keep Barnes here.

I'm starting to think it's Chadwell. It seems UT is setting this up for a young, offensive minded head coach to come in. He would have most of the defensive coaches (experienced SEC coaches/recruiters) in place and JC would fill out the offensive staff after he's officially hired. That makes sense to me.

I'd still rather have a bigger name with prior F5 or SEC experience but I think Chadwell could be good for us. IMO, he'd be a risky hire for UT at this time.
If it's Chadwell, I agree it's a big risk. I doubt he comes in and has immediate success. The best we could hope for is a "Dabo-like" build of the program. Clemson wasn't built overnight. Do we, as fans, have that kind of patience? Once upon a time, yes. I'm not so sure anymore. We've been living a nightmare for so long.
