Gilbert went from being a relative unknown that Barnes likes to an absolute villain in the span of a day.

It's crazy how that happens here. To say some of y'all don't take much convincing would be a giant understatement.

Careful. Posters will ridicule you for that take

I think you’re confused. Steele is an excellent DC. I’m not saying he’d be a good HC. Pruitt was also an excellent DC but he proved to be a terrible HC.

There’s a ton of evidence that Steele is an excellent DC if you look around. Not sure why you’re needing to wait and see how he would do at UT as a DC.
See my Jim Chaney comparison.

I'm starting to think it's Chadwell. It seems UT is setting this up for a young, offensive minded head coach to come in. He would have most of the defensive coaches (experienced SEC coaches/recruiters) in place and JC would fill out the offensive staff after he's officially hired. That makes sense to me.

I'd still rather have a bigger name with prior F5 or SEC experience but I think Chadwell could be good for us. IMO, he'd be a risky hire for UT at this time.
I think you could be right. There’s no doubt they’ve already spoken to their new HC many times about staff. And you would think this next HC has to be offensive minded with the way the game is now and our candidate pool certainly suggests that’s the case.

Now, it could be that more than one possible HC is good with Steele and Garner, not just Chadwell. I bet many from the list would be good with those guys on staff.

But if it is Chadwell, due to his lack of big league experience, it would certainly make sense to get a couple proven top tier coaches in place ahead of the hire, especially on the defensive side of the ball.

So embarrassing to think there were folks on the hill that supposedly wanted him for HC, and out biggest rival is hiring him for position coach! Tells ya all ya need to know!!

Such a short sighted take

I mean Texas just hired a guy that our biggest Rival felt was only worth an analyst job

Well **** man. I don't think Bama was gonna make him head coach. And what other head coaching jobs is he going to get right now?

Marrone has been a HC for the better part of 20 years. Most of which was in the NFL.

I get not wanting him, but it's just plain stupid to act like that is some bottom of the barrel hire that wouldn't elicit interest from anyone. A guy who managed to get hired by two NFL teams isn't beyond consideration for UT. I'm sorry.

If it's Chadwell, I agree it's a big risk. I doubt he comes in and has immediate success. The best we could hope for is a "Dabo-like" build of the program. Clemson wasn't built overnight. Do we, as fans, have that kind of patience? Once upon a time, yes. I'm not so sure anymore. We've been living a nightmare for so long.
I do, that’s what I want. Build this damn program back from ashes but not in the Bama blueprint. The Clemson way could work.

If they get the right AD hire (Ingram), I think fans will afford Chadwell some patience considering the NCAA circumstances. Like any of our past head coaches, he'll get some leniency in the first 2 years, but if he doesn't show improvement by year 3 you can guarantee yourself that the majority of our fanbase will turn on him. It's just who we are after 13 years of mediocrity. Patience wears thin at some point.

I hope it's not Chadwell, but I could accept it if needed to. He'll buy himself a lot of goodwill and extra time if he can beat one of our Big 3 rivals in his first two years. If not, he'll be thrown to the wolves.

You think it’s Chadwell? If not, who’s your guess?

No I dont think its Chadwell.
Alot of things have been going on behind the scenes since Christmas. They had to wait till outside counsel finished their due diligence, which ended with Pruitt's interview with them 6 days ago.
They got the search firm involved a couple days later to give them cover. They are letting the firm fully vet the candidates and kick the tires on any other ones. But I believe they know who they are going to hire as AD, and expect it to be announced within a week of Pruitt's firing. I think they have a short list of candidates for HC that the search firm is vetting for interest and background. Look what happened to the NY Mets with their GM Jared Porter. The Mets checked his references but did not peel enough layers of the onion off. UT Im sure is willing to take a little extra time to fully vet those they are getting ready to hire as AD and HC. We/they need to get this right.
So if that means taking some extra time to peel enough layers of the onion off to make sure we know we are getting it right, I'm fine with that. Many people want instant gratification in today's world, but haste can make waste! IMHO the stars are lining up for us to finally get this right. We seem to have the leadership in place to do it, with the backing of most of the FU money donors.
My guesses as to who the top tier candidates are (in no particular order):
Kiffin
Herman
Napier
OBrien
Gus

Darkhorses:
Neal Brown
Chadwell
Healy
Bill Clark
Satterfield

Drew is battling. He’s had pretty frequent blood transfusions due to his low counts. He has had chemo about every 3-4 weeks. It’s surprisingly not been as bad as I envisioned, but kids are a lot tougher than adults. He has had strength gains (Praise God) and recently started wanting to eat meals. He’s down quite a bit of weight. I’ll take the small victories right now (like the appetite returning) all day long. God is bigger than that though and this has drawn him so close to Him. 🙌🏻

Thank you for asking. #LiftUpDrew
Praise God for daily victories!! We continue to lift Drew and your family in our prayers. Stay Strong!!

If Boyd says proven winner, does Kiffin really fall into that category? I think he would win big but technically he hasn’t proven it from a wins standpoint outside at FAU.

Makes me think BoB, Caldwell, Herman are part of the group. Steele/Garner being on staff would make sense for those 3 guys to help with recruiting the region.

That is a pretty good article.. it'll fall on a lot of def ears though because of who wrote it

That article is as big a joke as the person who wrote it. Yes blame the fans for the disfunction of the administration that makes perfect sense. Wolken has a chip on his shoulder for UT fans because they are the ones that finally exposed him for the unprofessional hack that he is with his collusion with Curry which is still unprecedented and flies in the face of everything that journalistic ethics stands for.

He can wave his victory flag all day long because the Pruitt experiment failed but I would take where we are today 10 times over than have Schiano as our coach. I'm a Vol fan for life regardless of the record it's just that deep; however, I was ready to put my fandom in the grave if we hired someone tied to Sandusky.

Caldwell isn't in that group for college. Lane fits better than Caldwell imo.

I can live with most of this list actually.
