I’m surprised by the negativity in here for the hire. There’s reasons to be reserved on the hire, but some of the things being thrown around here are just contrived. Offense should be good, there’s no reason to think it won’t work in the SEC considering he’s had success running it at mizzou of all places. Not to mention, it seems pretty in line with what a lot of SEC schools are running/trending towards.

Recruiting is a bit of a question mark. Nothing in his prior stints scream elite recruiter, but I don’t see anything that says he’s a bad recruiter either. Likely an average recruiter. Seems UCF was pretty on par with what Frost was doing. There’s a lot of talent in Florida, but the big names are going to power 5 schools all across the country, so it’s not like UCF was going to have top 25 ranked classes no matter who’s down there. Honestly not sure having an “elite recruiter” would matter a whole lot given the state of the program. We’re not going to beat out the big time programs for elite recruits right now, just is what it is.

Defense is the big question mark. Needs to hire an elite DC. If he can do that I think it’ll be a successful hire. Hopeful it’s Steele, but if not need someone with experience that he can hand that side of the ball off to.
You should never be surprised by negativity on Volnation.

Go take a look at UCF forums, they are very excited that we took Heupel off their hands. That tells you everything you need to know.

I gotta say...I don't care what UCF fans are saying. That would be like the Americans caring what the British thought after we got our independence in 1783.

Points were never the problem under Heupel. Points win in this league.

If he starts to consistently get his rear end handed to him on a silver platter then I'll want him gone. Until then, I am on board, just like every Vol fan should be. Give the man a chance.

By the way I probably ain't gonna respond to you again bro. I hope you have a great day.

My least favorite tax return to do. State has the highest tax rates and one of the largest fees to do business in their state. So even if you have basically no activity in the state, they will still charge you an $800 fee because you filed in their state.
My brother lives there, and makes a lot of money working 70+ hours a week on rockets for Space-X, but after state and local get done with him it is a very unimpressive living...he loves it out there because it is a cool place to live for a lot of reasons, but he hates the place because of the government, and wants to transfer to Texas.

Random play I love that UCF runs. 11 personnel, This is a second level RPO. Pre snap: all the QB doing is counting the box. There’s 6 in the box pre snap... which is still a favorable run set because everyone is accounted for. But when the ball is snapped the QB is reading the safeties. FS drops back but the SS instantly crashes hard to play the run. On This particular play it has a slot fade being the primary option but because we know that either WR on the right side has one on one, you could also just use the slot vertical to clear out that side of the field then you have your 1 or 2 WR working one on one with a lot of inside space (slant/hook/drag... all easy completions with RAC opportunities)....and the best part is UCF has 7 pass blockers against 6 pass rushers Bc we know that safety isn’t going to make it home in time. It’s really simple too because all you’re doing is counting the box and if the safeties stay back you should get 3-5 yards a clip and if they crash in you have big play opportunities over their head.
High premium in this offense on QB accuracy. I believe Bailey will thrive in this offense. Salter gonna have to develop imo

You hire people around you that support your weak areas. Like hiring good recruiters. Hopefully Steele and Garner. I have a feeling that TE coach they are bring is going to be a good recruiter. I think its impressive that JH put together less sought after players and had success with them. That shows he can develop players.

Basing your opinion off of an anonymous fan forum is the equivalent to watching YouTube videos and becoming convinced there are lizard people running the government.

UT has Steele under a two-year contract. He's getting the same $$$-- from UT and Auburn combined-- whether he coaches or not. So UT doesn't have to buy him. They just needed to give him a reason to want to stay.
The past tense here leads to me to believe Steele is on board...? Would be a big time hire. Tell me its true!

Well enjoy it since you and Kingston already know how things are going to go. By the way, His O while at Mizz in the SEC put over 50 points against us. Can;t say he hasn't done anything in the SEC and how does a coach do anything in the SEC if he is never hired to coach in the SEC? Do you think the coach that Auburn hired isn't a gamble? What coach isn't a gamble. How many have we seen that had great success at one school then go to like UCLA and suck? Heupel beat Kiffin twice. Real bad. But I guess that doesn't count in a apathy world. LOL Look we have two different views. You look at things through your apathy eyes and see doom and gloom. I look through my eyes of hope and see possibilities. Back in my younger days I would get the same treatment. He hasn't Pastored a Church this size, well our last Pastor didn't work out so I don't expect this one to. LOL I have heard it all. lol I guess that's where I have had to learn to choose to keep my eyes on the prize. My dad use to say, "son, failure is the back door to success."

I've never said that. I just said I'm not optimistic. In fact, I said I hope I eat crow and lots of it.

As for the rest of your post, more power to you. A lot of the same stuff was said about our other past coaches as well. Sure, there is reason for optimism. I just don't think those reasons stack up very well against proven and concrete historical precedent with this program.

Is that out of the norm tho? Why should we pay him more when we don’t have to? Didn’t Chavis basically coach at LSU for free.

Butch and Bama just worked the same loophole much more egregiously. UT has Steele under contract. All UT has to do is operate within that contract. Steele can walk, though, without taking a financial hit.

Cincy fans said the same thing about Butch and we said the same thing you are here. It's a red flag.

If Steele left without being fired

Why would auburn pay that 900k?

I think he’d lose that money

Man it’s easy. He wins we don’t care and will offer any sort of rationale. If he loses, we will hold it against him until he wins or is fired.

I know what they were ranked in 2017, and I know how they got there and how hollow it was.

72 points vs. Missouri State, 34 points vs. Kentucky in a loss, 28 points vs. Georgia in a loss, 68 points vs. Idaho, 52 points vs. UCONN, 45 points vs. Florida (good showing here, but that team had quit on McElwain at this point.), 50 points vs. Tennessee (same thing for Butch Jones), 45 vs. Vanderbilt, 48 vs. Arkansas, 16 vs. Texas in the bowl.

Again, we are absolutely going to score points. Debating that would be silly. I just don't think this offense is built to score on teams that have similar talent or a talent advantage. We will feast on bad teams, no-show against good teams. And on the talent side, we've already lost basically an entire signing class to the portal, have a notoriously average recruiter as HC (and staff as it is currently constructed), and we will very likely have scholarship reductions for the next two to three years.

The more I read, I just don't know why we went in this direction. We needed someone who can do more with less because we were always going to have a lean couple of years.
We will have better talent than Mizzou and will therefore have more offensive success than they did. No one here realistically thinks we're gonna hang 50 on Bama or Georgia.

Looks more like a straight PA to me. None of the OL make it down field. Doesn't even look like the RB put his hands up to fake the run. Also the QB was looking right at the RB selling the fake handoff. Doesn't appear to be reading the safeties post snap. Its a fine play, but I don't think its an RPO.

We couldn’t hire a coach without red flags.

JH’s success here won’t be based on the opinions of UCF’s message board.

I'm simply saying that writing off what the fanbase of the previous school is saying is foolhardy. They don't like him for a reason(s). Instead of unicorns and sunshine, perhaps we should listen.

Do you think Liberty fans would be happy to see Freeze leave? What about Chadwell at Coastal? Napier at ULL?
