We haven’t finished outside the top 25 since Fulmer’s last class (35th). If the offense looks decent and we don’t get hammered too badly by the NCAA (we should absolutely sue if we get worse than Ole Miss did), it’s a safe bet we’ll stay in the top 25.
A lot of my question is whether or not we will be trying to recruit elite talent - some of the recent offers have worried me.

Rome wasn't built in a day, though, so we'll see if this is just a foundation class.

I'd say 35 is the floor, but we'll be higher than that. I don't cosign @Big Gucci Sosa's number, just the general feeling that this class will be bad.

I think we're going to win somewhere between 4-6 games, and I think we'll finish at like 22nd in recruiting.

Pretty close to my thoughts although I'd say 5-7 wins and top 20 in recruiting. I think the fact a lot of offensive guys in state are in the top 10 will benefit us this year, once they see a few games of what CJH can do they'll be sold. I also think Banks helps us pull those two kids committed to Michigan.

Haha not a chance. Everyone’s overreacting, including AP, about instate kids right now. Recruiting is about relationships and it’s understandable they’re behind with some kids, they don’t know each other. But those relationships will be developed and once UT scores 40pts a game and puts up W’s this fall things will change.

And even if they “miss” on some of these instate kids, there’s plenty of kids they do have relationships with that will jump in the ‘22 class.

UT is still a top tier program in the best conference with elite facilities and support for these kids and their families. Heupel will end up with a Top 20 class this year no matter what. If he finds a way to win 7+ games he’ll end up much higher. Predicting 30-40 is laughable, no matter the circumstances or who the coach is at Tennessee.

Agree.

The other factor we never remember is that all the new coaches have their own connections that prior staffs did not have. They weren't not recruiting at their last stop. They have players and HS coaches that trust them. They have areas that they have experience recruiting in. They have experience selling this offense to kids before. All of that will impact recruiting as well.

They may not have the notoriety that previous staffs had, but that's a far cry from thinking they'll recruit in last place in the SEC. Or barely as good as they recruited at their last stop. Hard to imagine that as a realistic possibility.

Can't imagine falling far off of a top 20-25 class. And I'm hoping that even if our overal rating drops in recruiting, the coaches/system getting the players that fit will produce positive results. Which inevitably leads to better cruitin.

Hanna-Barbera had the BEST cartoons. Scooby, Yogi, the Flintstones, the Jetsons, Dick Dastardly and Muttley, Huckleberry Hound, Snagglepus, Hong Kong Phooey, Top Cat, Auggie Doggie, Quickdraw McGraw, Grape Ape, Speed Buggy, Jabberjaws, and lots more I could think of if I wracked my brain. Seriously, those were just the ones that sprang immediately to mind.
You named a few that I had forgotten about. Hanna Barbara hands down was the best. Good times.

Thru every failed coach one thing has been consistent. UT will recruit itself to a class around #15 or so.

Very interesting. And very relevant to the offensive style we're about to adopt.

That is super flipping easy, if a player lays down on the field, fakes it, then gets up and runs off, assess a 5 yard penalty and make them sit out the following play, that would deter a lot of it I feel like

I'm not as optimistic about the offense as others, but when and if it does start to show life, my guess is it will be later in the season when a ton of kids have already committed.

We're not going to beat Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, UF, etc. for kids this year due to our offense - because those schools will have better offenses. Doesn't mean we won't get a fair share of talent - I'm just not sure the "offense will get players on board" line of thinking is as clear a path as others do.

Ok, some input on the various off-topic topics:

Wrestling- I was a kid of the 80s and grew up in North Carolina. I definitely had an awareness of WWF, but NWA was my jam. Road Warriors, Ivan and Nikita Koloff, Lex Luger (I think that was his name). But my favorites were Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson...the Rock and Roll Express!

Cartoons- The 80s ones I’ve seen mentioned are all good. I’d add the Pink Panther, the Ant and the Aardvark, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Tom and Jerry, so many good ones.

Last one...someone mentioned everyone having pocket knives. We all had that one with the long blade that had all kinds of gadgets in it. It was a compass on the end of the handle. I’m sure many of you know which one I’m talking about.

Last I read, AP said we’d gained a lot of ground with Ty Simpson. Has he said anything to change that? If we land Simpson and some of these other guys hold off, I’d say we’ve at least got a puncher’s chance with many of them.
This morning he said a handful of others instate are leaning elsewhere. And so many hang on every word AP says they forget he’s just a fan and dramatic at times. AP builds relationships with these kids and takes it all too personally, IMO.

Recruiting will be fine. Better than fine. Banks is going to pull some elite talent from Michigan and other places in the Midwest. Garner is going to do the same in GA. And we don’t even know who the other defensive assistants will be yet but I’m guessing they won’t be bad recruiters.

Heupel’s track record with offense will pull plenty of top tier talent on that alone. He’s got Kodi Burns, the RB coach, Mack, with ties to Memphis and the Carolinas. Kids will be lining up to play in this offense.

They’ve also just assembled a pretty impressive off field recruiting staff.

My early prediction is we win 7-9 games this fall and finish Top 10 in recruiting.

Thundarr the Barbarian was always a favorite of mine.

It's really difficult to police that. Kid lays down with an apparent cramp. He can easily fake the pain. He gets up and limps off after the trainers rub on it a bit.

Sorry I love you and won’t leave

We’re entering a very different era of Vol football. The play will be different. The recruiting will be different. Just feels like the old is gone.
True, I am very hopeful it will be successful but leery at the same time. I've been sucked in too many times to be burned by this program. I am really hoping our years of suck have passed us by.

Yea it’s a real slippery slope. I think the only way to police it is to maybe give the teams one defensive injury TO a half and after that it cost them one of their 3 TOs
