Not enough stars, no scholarship - sorry, not allowed. You cannot earn your way to playing time, must be magically granted by the ratings fairy.

Got a feeling this staff pays attention to who can compete and make plays on game day. He may get his number called along the way.
A la Dayne Davis. But with what he showed in the Orange and White if he can consistently manage to get separation and make adjustments and catch like he did, I don’t see how he doesn’t get time.

I guess I see if as being sort of funny, like some of the arguments against HB may be agenda driven or something. Like his performance Saturday maybe should be discounted because he took advantage of some busted coverages but Hooker's performance should be excused because someone bumped his arm that led to his throwing a pick six. smh.

We say we need a QB who can push the ball down the field and I would assume that means we need a QB that can generate the highest yards per attempt. I mean it's about aggregate distance, right? It's not about one throw; it's about a body of work. jmo.

So last year in average yards per attempt, HB was at 8.5, JT was at 7.5 and JG was at 6.7. In the O&W game HB was at 17.33, BM was at 11.40, and HH was at 7.93.

I'm sure numbers don't always tell the whole story so we probably need to take some of HB's completions and yardage away because he doesn't deserve them and maybe add some to the other guys because someone blocked their view or a receiver dropped the ball or something, whatever, we need to do something to try to prove that the other guys can win us a lot more football games than HB because dawggone it, that's just the way it is and everybody just needs to accept that and quit making such a fuss. jmo.
I'm surprised by the yards per attempt stat. Does this stat account for the distance the ball is in the air, or is it simply TOTAL YARDS/ATTEMPTS?

Anecdotally, I remember thinking, and others on the board corroborated this opinion, that Bailey looked so good because he was the first QB we had seen be able to hit RBs and TEs on checkdowns. We were ecstatic about it at that point. But maybe that doesn't tell the whole story?

Did Jancek ever go against better DB’s in the scrimmage? The first guy he burnt was a walk-on that wasn’t even listed on the roster that we pulled up to go by....... My attention span waned as the game went on so maybe he did damage against better DB’s but if he was just competing against guys way down the depth chart then I don’t he will see much time later on.

I'm not sure what to feel about Milton. He really has not looked great at UM. He's intriguing, but I don't think he's going to come in and take the job.
I look at him like I do all of our QBs from last year..... they were in an archaic offense that’s difficult to good in..... he has above average size, mobility, and arm strength..... let’s see if heupel can turn him into a qb.

It’s yards per attempt

It’s yards per attempt
Got it. That could be slightly misleading.

Bailey was our best QB last year by leaps and bounds, so it makes sense his yards per attempt number is higher than the other QBs. He was flat out better.

I'm not sure it assuages all the questions about how he fits in Heupel's system.

What's been the discussion on the defense? It's harder to parse out in these spring games for sure
247 did an article grading the units and they actually graded them decently well (only olb and secondary received grades). DL, ILB received incompletes. The biggest takeaway is the defense will look completely different personnel-wise by Fall. That was half walk-ons on defense playing half walk-ons on offense.

Down the depth chart I think. But that's where it always starts. Prove it against the lesser guys, step up and compete against the better guys and see what happens. What we saw were excellent routes, toughness, and good hands while using his body to shield defenders well. Maybe he only plays in mop-up time, but that would be a good thing like Doc posted. Maybe he earns some snaps where a dependable pass catcher works into an open zone in the middle of the field occasionally to move the sticks. Add 10 lbs. and he is joker TE size working from the slot or motion. Will see how it goes, but he made the best use of his snaps while many other scholarship guys did not.

SEC StatCat tracks air yards.

Shrout was tops in the whole league in average depth of target and AIR% (percentage of yards through the air...before the ball is caught). JG was 6th and HB was 11th in the SEC. Some of that is scheme or playing to strengths (Strout's deep shots). Not necessarily good/bad. Tua was notorious for hardly throwing for his yards. He'd throw 7 yard rpo slants that would go for 70 yard TDs.

HB also couldn't connect on deep shots last year, but sure looked more comfortable doing so Saturday. But I think you're right too, he seemed to check down more last year and made it further through progressions.

Finally got to watch the highlights from the game. I don't know what game Hank was watching but that first HB to pass to Jancek wasn't a push. Looked like a rope to this admittedly untrained eye..
