Right, I remember how infuriating it was watching JG, Shrout and Maurer not be able to process the offense and find the 3rd and 4th options. Bailey seemed to get it right away.SEC StatCat tracks air yards.
Shrout was tops in the whole league in average depth of target and AIR% (percentage of yards through the air...before the ball is caught). JG was 6th and HB was 11th in the SEC. Some of that is scheme or playing to strengths (Strout's deep shots). Not necessarily good/bad. Tua was notorious for hardly throwing for his yards. He'd throw 7 yard rpo slants that would go for 70 yard TDs.
HB also couldn't connect on deep shots last year, but sure looked more comfortable doing so Saturday. But I think you're right too, he seemed to check down more last year and made it further through progressions.
I'm not sure what to feel about Milton. He really has not looked great at UM. He's intriguing, but I don't think he's going to come in and take the job.
Farrell’s Take: Milton always had a huge arm but his accuracy was an issue out of high school and led to a few rankings drops. He’s tempting for the Vols as a pocket passer who can sling it but his inconsistency from high school to now is maddening. I'm a bit surprised he found a Power Five home honestly and Tennessee is taking a chance on his upside but they had better make sure they don't lose another QB because of it.

IMPACT METER
The Transfer Portal continues to change the way college football programs recruit and mange their rosters so we here at Rivals.com continue to evolve our coverage. Each time a player of note enters the portal, we will examine their potential impact on the college football landscape and assign an impact rating, both when they enter the portal and when they choose a destination. The scale is from 1-10 and the description below explains the scoring scale.
1.1-4.0 — Not a big impact expected, likely a non-starter and down the bench depth player.
4.1- 6.0 — A solid impact can be expected in the right scenario and has the potential to battle for a starting job.
6.1-9.0. — A high impact player who won’t change a program but will certainly be a very good contributor and starter.
9.1- 9.9 — A very high impact player who should start the moment he steps on the field and will change the outlook of a program immediately.
10 — A franchise transfer who has a chance to be an All American and one of the elite players in college football.
A couple of things, and you can take me at my word or dismiss me as making it all up, which would be weird.Based on what
We are going to eff around and let HB just transfer when all he’s done is make the most out of his few opportunities he was given. Sigh, another staff giving up on him. He’s going to be a good QB UT just doesn’t seem to want to give him a shot.
On Dayne Davis? Already tiptoed here saying he locks down the LT spot for at least 3 seasons. Doubling down on the jinx and cursing his career, I’m going full D4H here and comparing him to Chad Clifton. ***Pauses for internet violence and incredulous response ***A la Dayne Davis. But with what he showed in the Orange and White if he can consistently manage to get separation and make adjustments and catch like he did, I don’t see how he doesn’t get time.

Bailey and his family were very upset that Pruitt was fired. As his dad said when the rumors were running rampant, "we signed with Tennessee because of Jeremy Pruitt." They were assured by Fulmer that Pruitt was going to be fine multiple times - we know how that story ended. They were going to enter the portal at that time, but figured he should stay in school and complete the Spring semester before making a decision. I think that was smart, and what guys like Crouch and Henry should have done.
As @Bassmaster_Vol posted above, Bailey has not been totally consistent this spring. There were times he was running with the 3rd string behind Hooker and Maurer. He showed out in the Spring game, absolutely, but I don't think it was totally representative of how he performed throughout Spring ball or where he stands in the pecking order. The VQ guys have been adamant that if the season started today, Hooker would be the starter. You can tell me they're wrong on this, but I don't think they are.
There's a reason why Heupel was so desperate to bring Milton in - someone far from a polished product or a sure thing. Simply put, he doesn't like what he has at the position. And I believe he is preparing for one or two of them to leave on their own.

Eli Wolf course. Imagine his fit in this type of offense.Down the depth chart I think. But that's where it always starts. Prove it against the lesser guys, step up and compete against the better guys and see what happens. What we saw were excellent routes, toughness, and good hands while using his body to shield defenders well. Maybe he only plays in mop-up time, but that would be a good thing like Doc posted. Maybe he earns some snaps where a dependable pass catcher works into an open zone in the middle of the field occasionally to move the sticks. Add 10 lbs. and he is joker TE size working from the slot or motion. Will see how it goes, but he made the best use of his snaps while many other scholarship guys did not.
I hope he and Wright are able to be really good tackles..... it makes our offensive so much better. On Dayne Davis? Already tiptoed here saying he locks down the LT spot for at least 3 seasons.
