Gabriels deficiencies had a lot to do with it seeming "predictable"...plus if it was so dang predictable then how the eff did they manage to average a top five offense under Heupel despite the deficiencies of the QBs he had to work with after Milton went down?...I guess that was some serious voodoo he was performing...Not gonna make the mistake of looking at stats and proclaiming a coach is great. Remember how excited people were because Pruitt was tops in all defensive categories?
When you do a deep dive on his resume you come to find he couldn’t stop good offenses. UCF fans didn’t like Heupel because his offense went too fast and was too predictable. I don’t think they’re wrong. I’m laying out what I hope to see him improve on. This is gonna be his 4th year as a head coach so he has plenty of room to learn and improve how he runs things
To be honest LSU had a bunch of Defensive starters sit that game out, but an SEC backup should still roast an AAC playerHe was horrible. And they still scored 32 points against that defense. That LSU team steamrolled GA that year and Heup nearly beat them. If Milton had not gotten injured, he would have beaten them.
Do the math. About 30-40 seconds difference. Gonna change the scheme because a hyperfast 3 and out gives the defense 30 seconds of less rest vs a slow offense? When Heup’s offense isn’t clicking they give it back even faster
I'm not sure that's true. But even if it were, again, Mack was not their starting QB and he was horrible. And yet there they were right in the game. And if you go watch the lead up to that game, LSU and coach O were out for blood. They wanted to beat UCF badly. To be honest LSU had a bunch of Defensive starters sit that game out, but an SEC backup should still roast an AAC player
Check it out, but I remember it clearly partly because I wanted LSU to beat UCFs arse! I agree wholeheartedly about the backup QB, that was a notable weakness.I'm not sure that's true. But regardless, judging from what SCfan and Kingston have been saying, opt outs and starters out don't matter. It doesn't matter that Heup had over 10 starters opt out and multiple injuries in 2020, he went 6-4 and lost one possession games or something, so he isn't that good.
This right here. If your defense is suffering because of a 30 to 40 seconds difference there are bigger issues with your program lol.Do the math. About 30-40 seconds difference. Gonna change the scheme because a hyperfast 3 and out gives the defense 30 seconds of less rest vs a slow offense?
Furthermore, the point of using this offense is that the coaches think it is optimal, therefore it may produce fewer 3 and outs. So the overall effect is even less.
And fwiw "ball control" and wearing out defenses with ball control has been largely debunked as myth.
How many times in our lives have we watched UT offenses that were absolutely steamrolling people "slow down" only to choke away big leads?Do the math. About 30-40 seconds difference. Gonna change the scheme because a hyperfast 3 and out gives the defense 30 seconds of less rest vs a slow offense?

Only one of many many many frustrating losses I have witnessed due to playing passive "not to lose" or "take time off the clock" football...See OU 2015
