^^^ This.

I don't get why folks don't understand. It's not about what we prefer or want. That might have meant something 20 years ago, but not anymore. They were going to hire SchiaNO until everybody including the majority of politicians went ballistic over their tone deaf approach. They feared losing a big chunk of money if they went forward with it/. Otherwise he would have been on the long list of buy-outs of failed UT coaches by now.

They want the program to pay its own way with less donations going to needs operationally and more going to facilities and programs where they get their names on them. If we win in the process, great. If not, oh well. They will try to find somebody who is better to lead the programs. But win at all costs? Nah. Not in their vocabulary.
I think more of Boyd than that. And nothing from Plowman indicates money grubbing. She backed Fulmer and got out of his way which is what we’ve wanted from the Chancellor office since the good old days. That failed so she hired an experienced AD and has given him all the financial means to sign or resign as he wishes…without meddling. Improvements to facilities is part of the carrot to retain winning coaching talent. When it looks different sometimes there’s a reason for that.

You could be and I hope you are right. Been burned so many times and my past association with some of them taint my view at times.

They had a right to veto and b*tch about the whole thing and I don't blame them one bit
Honestly, the SEC should have included them in discussions. I do not think it would change anything, but it is not a great look that the SEC went behind their backs. However, it is funny to me because A&M is such a cult and I love to see them angry.

Understandable but eventually you hire the right people so don’t let the BVS keep you from recognizing when it happens.

Good point. I admit I have a good feeling about them, so there may still be a bit of BVS going on. When you've been around the old guard you know how their inflated egos tend to ruin things. Hopefully, Randy, Donde and Danny can manage them like Johnson and Dickey were able to do previously, while guiding it through all of the current changes successfully.

I can understand aTm being deflated. The same feeling Florida would have if enough of the schools supported FSU being in the SEC like was being discussed during the last expansion. Ole Jimbo hated that idea of being in the SEC then - until he didn't with the big paycheck at aTm. The irony.

I’m watching the 2019 Pitt/UCF game. They cannot guard UCF’s speedy receivers. Our receivers are faster. Our RB is faster. They will not be able to keep up with us.

Also, they are known for defense. They lost their five best defenders to the draft last year. So their defense will take a step back, while our offense will jump.

Their QB is a R-SR. He’s terrible. His last 3 years as a starter:
2018: 50.8% 1,969 12/6
2019: 61.6 3,098 13/9
2020: 61.1 2,408 13/9

He’s not good. Their offense is weak. Defense is mediocre. They won’t be able to keep up. We’re going to beat them 45-24 or something like that
I hope so, gotta win our non-con's this year.

I'd make a strong recommendation for everyone to listen to the latest Late Kick with Josh Pate podcast. I've put the YouTube link below, but it's available in podcast form as well. Really all you need is the first 20 minutes. I think he gives the best explanation of why this is happening, what is going to happen, and why he thinks it will ultimately be harmful to the sport we love. He is an SEC guy, but also a college football traditionalist. He says, essentially, that the pretense of amateurism is what has been keeping the sport together for the last 100+ years, and allowing the smaller players to remain on even footing with the blue bloods in these regional conferences (in the sense that they get to share in the revenue and be a part of the same conference). Now, with the NCAA off to the sidelines, the sport is going to start responding to market forces even more than it has before. There is only so much TV money out there, and you either go big or go home. The SEC is responding to this, and looking to become to college football what Amazon is to online shopping or Apple is to the smartphone industry. Texas and OU see this coming, and want to get on board. He says it may only accelerate from here, and eventually you may end up with CFB's versions of the NFC and the AFC. He doesn't think that there are enough big brands to support 3 super conferences, much less 4. He doesn't like it, neither do I, but I have a hard time saying that he's wrong. I guess the good news is that we'll be one of those brands that make the cut, but say a prayer if you are Texas Tech, or Kansas State, or Baylor.

Here’s a non Texas OU question

Obviously we know Heupels wins went down each year. Last year covid was hard for everyone. Do we see this as him running UCF into the ground or just some unlucky close losses?

I’ll be honest. I’ve gotten on every train and gotten hyped up with every new coach but we’ve been bitten so many times. I’m afraid of of getting my hopes up. I want to but I don’t know if I trust Heupel to be the guy.

Statistically looking at total yards, the UCF offense has been consistently great both in Frost's last year and Heupel's 3 years. Defensively, the 2018 and 2017 team were about the same, 2019 was significantly better, and 2020 the defense was worse than 2017 through 2019.

So until last year I'd say it was unlucky close losses that drove the win/loss decline more than Heupel's teams getting worse each year. 2020 was impacted by COVID opt-outs so maybe that's why the defense was so bad.

I'm in wait and see mode myself but that would be pretty much true of any coach that UT hired not named Saban or Meyer. There's reason for optimism and concern.
