Take a lap Aggies, the grown-ups are talking.

...You know, on the flip side, I wonder if this could have the opposite of its intended effect, post-Saban. Bama regresses to mediocrity and the SEC consistently produces conference title winners with 3+ losses because everyone is essentially equal and they are all killing each other.

If those winners have an automatic seat in a newly configured Playoff system, maybe it won't matter. They'll be tested enough to face anyone in the country...

Who knows! Lots of money will be made regardless

Apparently Greg Emerson running around His hometown trying to say he is going to Bama lol. Some sports store there posted a pic with him saying he was going to Bama. Yeah ok we will see. They either desparate or he walking on. Maybe she misunderstood him

I don't know how any fan of Tennessee could be happy with this move. Just imagine this conference schedule:

Florida
Georgia
Auburn
South Carolina
Alabama
Oklahoma
Kentucky
Vandy
LSU

And that's just a 9 game...they could do a 10 game.... and add another opponent like Texas or TAMU

Yep! Nonetheless, over the last 15 years we've somehow kept members of the fanbase who still think a new coach with a patchwork roster under the cloud of an NCAA investigation should be able to win 8-9 ball games against that schedule if "he's the guy." LOL. ...That's part of why we're cycling through coaches every 3 years and why no big names want to come here...

Couple of things---

Is it me, or does it seem like OU and Texas just decided they wanted to join the SEC and bullied their way in? I know it is all about money, but I am shocked the SEC thought this was a good idea long term for the conference... I would think the commissioner would have at least tested the waters with each SEC school to get their thoughts...

Okay, so if this is happening, did OU and Texas think about the fact that as far as I can tell, no one in the SEC wants them, and the fans will NOT welcome them... Think about how brutal games/tailgating will be for them to come to one of the existing schools, especially the first couple of years... I know people are joking, but I bet the entire SEC fanbase will be "horns down" the entire pre-game, game, and post-game the first season.

UT vs Texas... how is that going to work moving forward in terms of "UT"... ?? I don't care how bad we've been the past 10yrs, you come into OUR conference, you take a backseat, at least initially....

Then there's recruiting....

Mandel posing all the right questions. Or worse, why should Oklahoma risk coming to the SEC and being a Tennessee?

Oklahoma stood on the doorstep of sustained mediocrity & irrelevance in the 1990s in a much weaker conference... it can happen again, and is certainly more likely to happen in the SEC.

I mentioned earlier in the week that I think our team is going to be better than most realize, as long as this staff is able to formulate the correct schemes to maximize the talent we have... there is a lot of really good raw talent in the sophomore bracket that could develop into some serious playmakers.

The only two questions I have--- How do you guys think our O line will be this season, with us losing a few key pieces? How confident are we that our D staff will be able to utilize what we have on the roster to be efficient and not give up stupid or big plays to keep us in games?

I've been watching UCF a lot. We have way more speed and way more talent than them at the skill positions. Their best receivers and best running backs can't match our guys such as Hyatt for speed. And those talking about QB... Gabriel is not a good QB. I've been saying it. Look at the list below and notice he is nowhere to be found. He's not even on the list of someone they're watching for.

WalterFootball.com: 2022 NFL Draft: QB Rankings

He is not a good QB and I'm very confident that Heupel can get out of Bailey or Milton, two guys with way more talent and physical tools, what he got out of Gabriel and then some. This offense is going to take a huge leap which is why we are going to surprise this year.

Exactly. In our current state, that is 5 sure losses right out of the gate. This doesn't help us in any way

I'm hanging my hat on the idea that a conference realignment means one or both of UGA / UF is getting bumped from our annual schedule. ultimately, i don't care. CFB goes through these seismic shifts (first SEC shake up in the 60s, BCS bowl system, playoffs, NIL, on and on) and eventually things feel normal again. it'll happen here, whether or not UT / OU end up in the SEC. I just want to watch some football come September.
I think you’re wrong here. All those other changes took place while amateurism was still a thing. Now it’s all about money from the conferences down to the players. A lot of changes are happening all at once and it’s fundamentally changing CFB. Slowly but surely turning into an NFL-lite. The things that made CFB unique are being trampled and thrown in the trash for the good ole, tried and true money-grabbing capitalist formula.

To play devil’s advocate, wouldn’t every team’s schedule get tougher as well? I would think that the overall records in the conference will get worse and so it kind of evens itself out. I would expect to see teams in the playoffs with 2 losses on a consistent basis.

Big names? What big names? That has become like a mystical fantasy for all programs unless your on a team like bama, Ohio state, or Clemson.

Fair, but amateurism in college football has been a myth (for the elite players, anyway) for a long time, and not a single one of the changes I mentioned happens without consideration for the money involved. We all want to believe that college football is about the passion for game and the traditions and the pageantry-- and it exists to some degree-- but CFB has been a slimy business for decades. Its all just a little more obvious now.

Under the new CFB landscape, where everything is about money, it is 100% a great move for the conference and even the players. Bigger TV deals. More Face Time for the players. More NIL deals with bigger payouts. All equaling to the SEC remaining the most sought after landing spot for every high school kid and thereby the SEC remaining the elite of the elite in CFB and really every major college sport. SEC is already there in baseball. Close in basketball. SEC kicks ass at the smaller sports too. This move just further cements SEC dominance while bringing in big big 💰 for everyone at the table.
