Regarding the state of recruiting and the football team I'm going to say the same thing I said and posted on here when Barnes was hired. Which also applies to Voltello.
We've got the right guy. He will prove it by winning the games we should win based on the talent we have. So schedule is critical to knowing how many. He will recruit quality players/students with good character and as much upside potential as he can find that will come. He will mix and match to create something that is unique and a bit of an unknown challenge to the better programs. After a couple of years of being OK, the recruits will start beating the doors down as they are now in basketball and baseball because by Years 3 and 4 he will have the program challenging for the East Division and likely win it at least one of those two years.
Other than Doc who will claim 15-0 til it ain't this season (actually love it), you can say I told you to book it and throw it back in my face if it doesn't happen that way unless it happens sooner.
Barnes and Vitello were up against a different landscape though. They definitely overachieved but the mountain to climb in SEC football is Everest. There’s so much more money involved, and teams on top have a vested interest in keeping their foot on our neck. Then we have an issue with the NCAA.
I think Heupel is the best hire we’ve made in a long time, but to get to where we want to go, there needs to be some major shakeups elsewhere in the SEC. We need some luck in the worst way.
