Yep, I'm a huge Bailey fan and I think he's got potential to be a stud. But if Coach Heupel doesn't think he's ready to be the starter then I trust him. The bulk of HB's passes were check-downs or at the LOS which just isn't what this offense is built around.
The ability to check down is great but you have to be able to hit down the field passes….. hopefully Bailey can develop into that kind of QB.

He also didn't make a single big time throw (BTT stat) all year. Outside of the HS Vandy squad, with HB we didn't even manage 20 pts in any game. We had 13, 19, and 17 pts. Our 3rd down% even decreased from 32% pre-HB down to 23%.

His completion% is nice looking, though aided by short soft passes (lowest ADOT on the team) and low drop%. His actual accuracy% ranked 13th in the SEC, interceptable pass% 16th, and dead last out of 21 eligible QBs in uncatchable pass% and sack%.

I can see the game manager tag. That said, I think he could grow into a fine GM type guy with time. Has to cut down on fumbles, sacks, and increase accuracy first though. If he can develop his long ball accuracy and make some big throws, who knows?
Lol. He didn’t practice til game three. And then played Texas AM (#5), Florida (#6), and Auburn (#23). But let’s throw out a game because that helped his stats. Of course and every QB gets inflated stats from bad teams. Why are we giving Milton a huge pass for his stats and not Bailey when he didn’t even barely practice until being forced to play?

I didn’t realize our offense attacked defenses very much or asked our QBs to throw long a lot. What Bailey did was take what the defenses gave him and completed 70% of his passes. He threw the ball 68 times total with barely any practice. I swear half the people on here will look for any reason to put down a player. Did you look at Miltons stats? Yet everyone thinks he is Cam 2.0. Come on… I’m hoping Milton is Cam 2.0 and Bailey is Drew Lock 2.0, but we don’t know yet. Both QBs played in archaic offenses last year.
We don’t know until they play but Bailey was not accurate at all down the field last year nor has he been accurate down the field in practice….. it’s why he is 3rd on the depth chart…..our best hope is that Milton does really well bc he has the best physical traits to make this offense explode. Support whoever is the starter….. Milton won the job and it wasn’t close.

I didn't realize it either, but yeah it seems we were throwing long a lot more than most. Now maybe they schemed that out for HB idk.

JG and Shrout each threw deep about 20% of the time and HB just 10%.

Shrout and JG were both top 6 in the league in ADOT and Shrout led the league there. Dude was only throwing haymakers lol.

Serious question, why did Bailey look so good stretching the field in the O&W game yet apparently can't hit water if he fell out of a boat down the field in practice. I rewatched it last night, he threw 4-5 DIMES in the spring game

Guys you’re looking at this all wrong. I like Milton, I like HB, but I LOVE that it’s not JG!! Better days ahead!

Hope he tears it up.

Been saying for a while that surely we have a QB on roster that ain't as bad as JG. But from what I've heard he may actually end up being the second coming of him. Has all the tools but doesn't have it between the ears. Hoping that's not the case.

Wow... some of you are amazing you do realize Milton turned the ball over more than Bailey right ? 3 years in a college program no matter how sh1tty UM was. Bailey was equally fitted with a sh1t coaching staff and gameplan. I know everyone is excited about seeing our guys on the field all 3 qbs needed work and honestly Bailey is probably about where he needs to be from a growth standpoint. I would actuall day hes ahead considering he is competeing with the next Heisman trophy winner and it took all but the last two werks of practice to determine that if JH is to be believed. But you do you bro.

Football fans, especially on message boards, do this every preseason. I've been reading multiple team boards for a long time and I still can't believe how strong the group think mentality can be, but you know how it works. Voicing concerns gets downvotes, criticized, insulted. Pundits/podcasts lose their audience. Pointing out problems is unpopular and people don't like to be unpopular.
It's crazy how similar fan boards are, even across sports.

I'd also bet the wild sunshine pumping increases as the season nears closer. We do it every year lol

I support everyone. I hope everyone does great things here. I guess if you are down the depth chart you find everything wrong with them and not focus on all the bad things starters do. Y’all want me to send Miltons down field passion percentage and overall stats? They weren’t very good. Doesn’t mean I don’t hope he is the next Cam Newton and lights it up. Milton won the job the day he walked on campus. Period. I know someone who speaks to DW, JH, and other coaches. He is on the sidelines almost every home game that he can be. He was in Fulmer's box for BYU and other games. Milton was QB1 the day he came here. But that doesn’t mean I can’t stick up for Bailey and say he hasn’t been given a fair shake and is judged to hard for playing in a terrible offense last year when he didn’t even get practice until into the season.

Even then I don't care. The "light show" isn't some giant fan event. I've said this before... It's something to look at during one of the 9000 different TV timeouts. It's about as noteworthy as them playing Garth Brooks or showing regurgitated highlights on the big screen.

Watching on TV you most likely wouldn't even know they are doing it.

If it’s anything like the lightshows at other stadiums, which they are, then you can definitely see it on TV too.

Because he is a gamer. Much like Dobbs. Dobbs was terrible in practice, but he was the only reason Butch had a job here as long as he did.

Not making comparisons - not even discussing JM, nor do I even have these stats on Milton - only for SEC. Just laying out his stats as to why he might be considered a game manager. That's not a terrible thing either. He'll be a fine QB, just needs time to develop...like most do.

Essentially this is where we are in regards to all the QB's - Milton gets first crack at showcasing what this offense is capable of. If he falters then next man up. The fact of the matter is that the offense is the key to any success we'll have this season and beyond. If the QB can't execute the scheme or the scheme doesn't equate to points on the scoreboard, it'll be evident rather quickly if we're going to be able to rebuild/rebrand our way out of the hole we've spent the last 15 years digging.

Lighting up the scoreboard this season, win or lose (similar to what LK did at Ole Miss last season) will be the measuring stick in regards to success. Points on the board will get play makers excited to be here. I truly think that Milton was the QB coach Hype was most familiar/comfortable with, and going forward we'll see 'his' QB. Which means I think that both Hooker and Bailey are placeholders as the new staff fills the QB room with 'their' guys. But ultimately, UT will succeed or fail with the decisions the coaching staff makes and I'll trust them to do what should have been done last season and play the best players that fit their system accordingly.

Dobbs was such a different scenario. His special talents couldn't be seen in practice because they were things they didn't do in practice. It sure wasn't because of his arm or accuracy early on haha. It was because of his legs and playmaking ability on broken plays. Butch couldn't see any/much of that in practice day in and day out.

Really y’all? You cannot use statistics with Bailey playing for Pruitt with little to no practice. You can’t use statistics of Milton playing in Harbaugh’s offense with an injured hand. Two days we’re going to see at least 1 playing in Heupel’s system so we will know. They can both be good players with strengths and weaknesses.

I trust the coaches on the QB evaluation. If HB was the best, he'd be starting on Thursday night. The article on the Athletic seems to put a lot of stock in Milton's thumb injury being the reason he didn't go off last year. He's healed up and ready to go.

Yeah, honestly this is Year 0 to most casual observers of our program. Expectations are ridiculously low and we have essentially no national buzz heading into the season. In that scenario, I think they made the right choice going with the QB that has the most upside.
