I’m glad you said this, because I’ve been thinking on this same thing. First off, you’re spot on, we’re a 7-5 level team, important to keep in mind. But, let’s go back to Cam’s outstanding year at Auburn: his performances were very underwhelming at first (and I was thinking he was overhyped). Once he got a couple games under him he looked totally different and the rest is history. I think everyone needs to be patient with new players (lots of transfers) and new coaches learning how to play together as one.Milton doesn’t blow. Inconsistent? Sure. Some (maybe yourself included) sounded like they were expecting Cam Newton/Auburn results this year. That ain’t happening. We’re a 7-5 team at best and that’s with a few breaks.
The dystopian future of the Big 12 without OU and Texas was on display at the Texas Tech-Houston game this weekend:
I think our O is gonna have to flip the script in this game and it’s gonna depend on our passing game and how well our OL can protect against their DL/LBs (strength) to expose their secondary (weakness). If Milton and WRs can’t connect then it’ll no doubt be an L.This game really boils down to QB play and can we force turnovers IMO. Think we will need a couple takeaways whether it’s INT or fumbles.
I actually feel pretty good about our defense. Think we have a top level secondary. Athletic LBs, and numbers on DL.
Our offense is what worries me.
Pressure was definitely a problem for him last year. Took waayyyy too many sacks (about like JG did under Butch, but he was fixed by Helton, so it's 100% fixable).
But last year (other UT QBs for comparison):

I think you're missing my point. Bailey has become a folk hero for some on VN. I've heard posters call him the obvious choice. I've heard them say he wasn't given a fair shot. Some posters have basically called our coaches idiots for not giving HB the job. I'm well aware that coaches can make mistakes too, but if the choice is as obvious as some make out, if HB is really just head and shoulders above Milton, then we still have a coaching problem. If something is as "obvious" as some make it out to be, then it's coaching malfeasance if they don't recognize it. This isn't about falling in love with one player's singular talents. There are posters who've basically said we're playing Milton even though Bailey has shown himself to be better in practice. If that's true, then the coaches are putting ego over the team, and I just don't believe that. That's not to say that HB wouldn't do well if put in the game. The kid may very well be a gamer. But if posters on a message board truly know more than the coaches, then yeah, we still have a coaching problem. You know it is not that black and white...right? That a otherwise great coach can be blinded by singular talents? That a guy can look great in practice, but look like crap on a cracker in a game, while the opposite is true of others?
I want Milton to be what Heupel wants him to be for the same reasons Heupel does..I just really doubt he can be changed at this point...but WOW..if he could..![]()
I said Milton sucked. True
I said Milton was worse than the other two. True.
I never said bench Milton.
Well...
Milton didn't play good. (31.4 qbr)
Hooker didn't play much. (86 qbr)
Bailey didn’t play at all. (0 qbr but made no mistakes)
Statistically Milton made way more mistakes than the other two so technically, yes, Milton was worse than the other two.
I actually agree with Rucker here. If Pitts DB's turn their backs on the QB, he should run for a lot of yards and 3rd down conversions.
I hope Milton is more decisive this week.
