Lots of talk today about Pitt's defense. Heupel scored 45 and 34 against them in 2018 and 2019 respectively. Obviously our offense may not be on UCF's level yet, but there's lots of familiarity there on both sides.
That was in Gabriel's first start also. He made a bunch of mistakes in the first quarter that had them down. Then they came back but weren't able to hold it.

I will say this. I hope Milton improves with his deep ball and field vision because these arguments will only get worse. HB has flaws including deep ball accuracy but I do think he sees the field well. He did last year better than any QB we had and more often than not made a good decision on where to throw it. HB did check down a lot and take what the defense gave him which isn’t sexy but is better than nothing. I rewatched the game and Milton took a couple sacks where he could have thrown it away or taken a short gain to a check down. One of which took us out of field goal range.

But Narduzzi has seen Heupel’s offense 2 of the last 3 years and knows it really really well. Heupel still knows nothing about a Narduzzi lead defense.

If we can’t throw the ball down the field….. we are screwed no matter who the qb is.

I’m hoping that a lot of Miltons issues were that he knew the game was in hand and he just got caught up in trying to make the big plays like backyard football. The deep ball is fun and exciting but he had multiple players running free in the middle that if open against Pitt he will need to hit. Also after watching the game again the Hyatt drops were worse than I thought and drive killers.

This game really boils down to QB play and can we force turnovers IMO. Think we will need a couple takeaways whether it’s INT or fumbles.
i disagree
the Tote game will make it break us.
if we can run for about 5 upcoming & 150+ yards, we will have wide open receivers down the field for big plays. He won’t miss those open deep shots again.

You’re absolutely right. I’m just saying Milton missed a lot of open receivers in the mid range. Not saying HB is the guy or going to be the guy but I do think he sees the field decently well as a QB from what little we’ve seen last year and spring game. Hyatt’s drops were bad and Milton did deliver those pretty accurate. Hoping Milton was just amped up and was playing backyard ball cause the game was easily in hand. Pushing the ball downfield is great but so is a wide WR 15 yards downfield with room to run.

Meh. I have to believe if HB was the better option, the coaches would be playing him. People play it off that Heupel's "ego" makes him believe he can fix Milton. If his ego is more important than winning, we have the wrong coach. Team should always come first. If Bailey is this super stud, all-world beater that some are making him out to be, then our coaches are idiots for not playing him. I'm tired of having idiots for coaches. So either MB fans are right and we've hired the wrong coaches again, or our coaches are right and are playing the best QB.

However it works out, I just want to win. Put the best players out there and win games.

I albeit only watched that condensed Pitt/UMass game. Really hard to read much. The lines for UMass were pathetic on both ends. Their QB has some good mobility and plays smart but nearly every throw he had was a clean ass pocket.

Their WRs are all small guys. I really like ATs physicality against those guys. We will need to jam them without getting clean releases to throw off timing. They won't be able to throw bubble screens or anything because our guys would blow them up. I'm more concerned about intermediate to deep throws assuming Pickett gets time in the pocket. The TE is a big dude though. He seems like a mismatch.

I think the speed of our DEs will cause problems for their tackles. Especially if BY is back. Big game for Baron too. Let's see how effective he can be in his first real game of the season

I'm not saying that he is the better option right now. I'm not sure if he is or isn't. Milton's tools are special and he should be the starter.

I'm not saying that HB is going to turn into anything. I'm saying it's stupid to say that he won't develop into anything because he isn't the starter as a covid freshman. I'm not understanding why that's even disputable. But some guys really think highly of themselves and their knowledge in this thread

There are other possibilities you know. Like LA said, HB could very well be our 2nd best option, but the competition is so close 1 - 3 that the coaches would rather ride with the two more experienced QBs and get HB a full year of development. He is still just a covid freshman.

Sure thing

I don’t know if he did or not and frankly don’t care.

Chris Relf, Dak, Fitzgerald, Franks, Jones, and even Alex Smith and Tebow were all dual threat. He’s played guys like Tyler Russell and Trask, but he likes to use the QB as a runner.

Don’t care if you agree or not, but that’s his history.

So does all this confidence in Bailey stem from what he did against Vandy and in the O/W game?

Heup is not afraid of what the fans think…. He feels Milton is his qb and is trying to get him corrected running his system….. Richardson and Emory Jones have both run Florida’s system for over a year…. Joe Milton has been here 2 months….. if coach Heup is worried about what fans think then we hired the wrong guy.

Yeah, if Heup is smart, he will go with what he thinks is best and forget the fanbase. we hired him to run the football program not be a politician.

Best case, he brings relevancy back to a national power.

Worst case, he gets $10+ million to go away after three or so years, while those obnoxious fans get to complain their way through another coaching search and multiyear rebuild.

I'm not claiming to "know" anything. I'm saying trust the coaches. At least until they give us reason not to trust them.

I wouldn’t say it’s “confidence” doesn’t matter who it was against he did generally throw to an open receiver and wasn’t afraid to throw to the middle of the field although it was a very small sample size.

Kyle Trask was slower than Molasses. In this day and age of high scoring offenses, accuracy is far more important.

All I'm telling you is that I know for a fact that it happened.

I guess you can call me a liar if you want to tho
