Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

So kinda random but I like to listen to bits of this Baylor sports radio show on YouTube. Funny enough none of the hosts are Baylor fans, one is an Oklahoma fan, one is a Nebraska fan and the other is a FSU fan. I found it mostly when all the breaking news about Texas and Oklahoma happened. They are a pretty good listen because they talk a lot about college football in general and they did a segment about "top 5 biggest mysteries in college football". And number one was "Why can't Tennessee find anything?" And one host sounded truly baffled and made points about what a beautiful setting we are in and we're in the south surrounded by talent.

Point is, even people in no way associated with this program can't understand our mess. It baffles them. Shows us people who aren't biased in any way still think we should be a dominate program. Man, I hope we get to it sooner rather than later.

They were dropping 8 into coverage….. we ran a quarter of our offense…. Keep an open mind.

My mind is open and I hope he improves. But again, every throw was a fastball and he was tentative running. After half time adjustments he got better running, but the game is about to be played faster against the best competition in the SEC. He has two more games to figure it out with a long way to go.There can be no hesitation or indecision and be successful as Volnation learned with #2. Even HB sucked last season when he got the same way. But he was a true freshman.

IDC who starts. I want who Heup wants - I just want him to be successful so the team will win more games. I'm a simple man.

I am still getting the feeling that some of you secretly hope that Milton fails so that your opinion of HB will somehow be vindicated. I know that we all just want to win, but I think some of us want to be right almost as much as they want to win.
People should be seriously rooting for Milton to figure it out. He’s got the highest ceiling by miles.

This is true lol
Does your guy say anything about who are main deep threat receivers are? Tillman was open and did his job and I know there is a lot more to it than I know but seems like youd have Hyatt or someone faster as your deep ball threat. Defense just taking that away from Hyatt?

Good grief….. quit being a fan of individual quarterbacks….. Bailey struggled last year in every game except the game he played against the team without a coach, using a girl as a gimmick, and just lost to ETSU…. I’m not fan of any of the QBs but I choose to live in reality….. Right now, Bailey is 3rd string….. he was 3rd string in the spring and is 3rd string in the fall…. I talk about Milton is bc he IS our starting QB….Hooker is 2nd on the depth chart…. When they decide that Bailey is a potential starter then we need to look to see what he can do to help us win…… Milton did not have a great first game but he did win by 32 points…. Our best option is for him to keep growing and beat Pitt this weekend…. None of the qbs have proven they are great in games at this time.
Bailey had a better game the last game he got a chance to start than Milton just did...period.

And I just don't want him written off, which is exactly what a lot of people are doing. I do understand why Milton is starting and I agree for now. If he doesn't get any better, then Hooker and Bailey both deserve a real shot in a real game.

Admit it or not, Bailey did better as he went last year depite being completely and utterly mishandled, and it is a fact he played well in his last chance to start.

I don’t want Bailey playing just bc he was loyal to Tennessee. If Milton and Hooker flop then let’s see what he has. If it’s a blowout vs Tech I’d like to see him. If something clicks in practice and he starts looking like the best QB, then I trust Heupel to play him. But I don’t want him playing just bc he stayed loyal. That’s a bad reason to play a QB, other than in the situations described above.
Jeez man...that is not what I freakin said..🤦‍♂️

The mental gymnastics some our fans go through in claiming HB is the better option with only a spring game and a game or two against competition like Vandy. Like you guys may be right, but maybe just maybe these coaches know what they are doing better than Pruitt did…

One of my fears next week is this board (and therefore, my time :)) is consumed this time next week with many of the same discussions, because Milton likely won't be able to accomplish everything everyone wants in this 10-day window. I'm hoping we will be reasonable enough to see progress in some of his "deficient" areas.

We are quick on here to criticize. Sometimes because we know what we see. We don't have to depend on "experts" to tell us. Weird, huh.

100% agree. If Heup can improve one or two important things with Milton and game plan in a way that takes some pressure off, we could see a really good result. Very few would disagree that his upside is the highest if the improvements can be made.

Milton was not the reason we won by 32...we won because they quit letting him throw the whole second half.

I absolutely agree with this..what I don't want is another freakin JG situation...I can't take that dumb crap anymore.

There's literally a list infinitely long of QB's who were not elite immediately and then became elite after developing a couple of years. It is completely asinine to say that if a QB isn't the guy day 1 or even year 1 then he is done and isn't going to be good. It's so stupid its not even worth a reply.

And to say, "yeah but there aren't world beaters in front of him!" Ok... but there is a ton of experience ahead of him and Joe Milton has first round talent if it can be developed. There's no question about that. It's why he's the starter.

Mac Jones was terrible in his first 3 years at Bama. If not for JG we would have beaten Bama and Mac in 2019 with freaking Jeremy Pruitt he was so bad in that game. All he did was go on to be drafted in the first round by the Patriots the next year.

The GOAT Tom Brady didn’t really even play his first 2 years at Michigan.

You win/lose as a tram…. Sometimes the running game will fail us…. Sometimes the defense will let us down…. I don’t think they quit letting him throw…. I feel they working on things and in the second half they just took what the defense was giving them….Joe has to play better and I have confidence that he will.

2019
Broke my cardinal rule arguing QBs with Bass after him swearing to me the JG was the man. Apologies to the board. Beat Pitt!
I argued with you about JG when you were pumping Chryst. I think most of us were out on JG after 2018. I will say it is commendable the way he stuck with it and helped us win some close games at the end of 2019.

Him being Heupel's guy literally means nothing. Again, these definitive statements about a guy who is a covid freshman blow my mind.

Dan Mullen was recruiting HB this offseason. Was contacting him through various means trying to get him to transfer to Florida. But you and Hank Hill know more than Dan I guess. Dude should just focus on his education
I’d be interested to know why HB wouldn’t immediately run to that offer when it was obvious he was 3rd here since the middle of spring.
