I think you're missing my point. Bailey has become a folk hero for some on VN. I've heard posters call him the obvious choice. I've heard them say he wasn't given a fair shot. Some posters have basically called our coaches idiots for not giving HB the job. I'm well aware that coaches can make mistakes too, but if the choice is as obvious as some make out, if HB is really just head and shoulders above Milton, then we still have a coaching problem. If something is as "obvious" as some make it out to be, then it's coaching malfeasance if they don't recognize it. This isn't about falling in love with one player's singular talents. There are posters who've basically said we're playing Milton even though Bailey has shown himself to be better in practice. If that's true, then the coaches are putting ego over the team, and I just don't believe that. That's not to say that HB wouldn't do well if put in the game. The kid may very well be a gamer. But if posters on a message board truly know more than the coaches, then yeah, we still have a coaching problem.
I haven't said those things like that, I have said I like him and think he could shine with Heupel if given the same level of attention. I just want the kid to be given a chance to play some. I do not want him going somewhere that wants and coming back to bite us. I also really appreciate that when the rats were all jumping off the ship, he stayed loyal to us. That doesn't mean anything to a lot of folks, but it sure as hell does to me.

If Heupel can get great production out Gabriel, then I think he can do great things with Bailey if he would give him a chance.

He obviously isn't ready, and I don't want him to be thrown to the wolves, but he proved to me against Vandy last year that he could be a good QB. That was a really good game he played, especially considering everything that happened.

He did enough for us to win by 32 points. Now we'll see how he does against Pitt.

You added more to your original post.

No - the team did enough. Had they counted on him being special to win by 32 points we would still be waiting. It was 14-6 at halftime and every pass had been a fastball with him being tentative running. The half time adjustments with the O-line and emphasis on the running game changed everything.

Excuse me..he got better as he went and played a hell of a game the last game, especially considering how he was brought along and what he had to work with. It was a hell of a lot better game than your boy had against a jumped up HS team Thursday, with less real development going in..
Good grief….. quit being a fan of individual quarterbacks….. Bailey struggled last year in every game except the game he played against the team without a coach, using a girl as a gimmick, and just lost to ETSU…. I’m not fan of any of the QBs but I choose to live in reality….. Right now, Bailey is 3rd string….. he was 3rd string in the spring and is 3rd string in the fall…. I talk about Milton is bc he IS our starting QB….Hooker is 2nd on the depth chart…. When they decide that Bailey is a potential starter then we need to look to see what he can do to help us win…… Milton did not have a great first game but he did win by 32 points…. Our best option is for him to keep growing and beat Pitt this weekend…. None of the qbs have proven they are great in games at this time.

They were dropping 8 into coverage….. we ran a quarter of our offense…. Keep an open mind.

I believe those go hand in hand to an extent. If you speed up the decision making, you can afford (sometimes) to put some air under it. I wonder how much of that can be improved in these 10 days.

Not much, IMO. I expect Hype to use more scripting while focusing on the two reads and run mentality. If he can practice him on getting air under the ball to make it more catchable, that would be a trifecta for success against Pitt.

I know! I wonder if A&M fans are this upset by their 31 point win over Kent State.
No, because they’re Aggies and probably have rationalized themselves into believing that Kent State will win the MAC this year, but they probably should be a little worried that their new QB threw 3 INT’s against a cupcake like that. Can you imagine what this place would be like if Milton did that?

He won the starting job his first year on campus at LSU and it’s better to go with the rule vs the outlier in these situations.
It wasn't his first year period. You said they always immediately separate themselves. The guy that had the best college season ever...absolutely DID NOT.

You want to arbitrarily throw that fact out because it destroys your statement. Another fact is this..he ain't the only one that flipped the switch...and like I said, if it was left up to you the mediocre armed, slow as molasses wounded duck throwing Peyton Manning would have never got the job. He didn't blow Stewart away in that competition, and sure as hell wasn't getting the job over Helton and Colquitt. They didn't want to flip-flop QBs because it went against Fulmer and Cuts philosophy...and the rest is history once they settled on Peyton.

One of my fears next week is this board (and therefore, my time :)) is consumed this time next week with many of the same discussions, because Milton likely won't be able to accomplish everything everyone wants in this 10-day window. I'm hoping we will be reasonable enough to see progress in some of his "deficient" areas.

Malazan 1 is rough, was a movie script never meant to be a novel. Malazan 2 and beyond will change how you think of fantasy, maybe of all literature.

Kaladin in book 1 and 2 was awesome, but he's not complex or multi dimensional enough of a character over the long run for me to put on my top list. There's never a time when his thoughts or actions surprised me. He's always always always doing the right thing, he's too perfect. His only flaw is that he beats himself up too much for not being perfect enough. Maybe I'm a little too far off from perfect to like him very much haha. Definitely plan to finish Stormlight though, nitpicking complaints about Sanderson aside, it is a fantastic world and storyline.
I am looking for something to read after I finish my first book. I think I would have to reread Malazan 1 because it's been about 10 years, I think. I will give it serious consideration.

He's got no argument. He went quickly to insults because there is no argument for dismissing a guy this early. I'm not sure what his motivation is to throw HB out

I think Joe can be good. He was 2 drops and 2 overthrows from having everybody claiming we are beating Bama with our new age offense.
No joke. Hyatt's drop near the end zone and the PI. Those two don't happen, that's two more td's and a hundred more yards of offense lol. Not to mention the other drops. He was close. I expect him to play much better on Saturday. I think we roll Pitt

Like I said...I totally get it...I just wish he could reward the faith shown in him.
I don’t want Bailey playing just bc he was loyal to Tennessee. If Milton and Hooker flop then let’s see what he has. If it’s a blowout vs Tech I’d like to see him. If something clicks in practice and he starts looking like the best QB, then I trust Heupel to play him. But I don’t want him playing just bc he stayed loyal. That’s a bad reason to play a QB, other than in the situations described above.
