Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

I know this is about beer, but the bourbon talk got me thinking.

My neighbor is all over the bourbon chase and in several local groups in Mid TN. Always has something awesome or rare, and loads up on enough of the goodies to always have trade value. I'm lucky to have him! And not just for the bourbon.

I used to be able to go to any one of about 10 different liquor stores around 2014-2016 and find pretty much anything. The thought of buying multiple bottles of bourbon never even crossed my mind, because they always had the greats from Buffalo Trace or Sazerac or whatever the hell else.

Right around 2016 it started to get hard. Since 2020, and everyone working from home and having a ton of time on their hands... impossible. It's like everyone took up "bourbon as a hobby" at the same time because they had time to kill and/or were drinking way more (no judgment). Even my guy that I had WAY out in the country has been discovered and raided.
Bourbon craze is out of control right now.
We have 18 liquor stores and tbh, the truck chasers have become a huge pita!
I’ve been on a Old Forestor statesmen and prohibition kick. Great pour and always available.

I LOVE Prohibition. Easy to find, delicious. I think it is as smooth/tasty as some of the more sought after bottles.

**** ass book that my high school English teacher made us read 16 years ago. Still not over it. The beer probably sucks too.
Ha ha. I haven't read it or seen the movie oddly enough. I usually watch a lot of movies but it didn't appeal to me at that time in my life and haven't ever went back to it.

The beer though? Is good. Its limited and some years I like better than others but when its good its so good. Especially if you can find a local restaurant with it on tap!

Getting my hands on that and some BA stouts from a local Nashville brewery on Friday.
My wife got me a 4 pack of this the other day…

Hardywood makes some really interesting beers. My favorite of theirs is called Trickery. It’s an imperial milk stout aged in apple brandy barrels. It’s magical.

OK, Morans. I have a brand spanking new PitBoss electric smoker. I have never smoked anything in my life, except for a few cigarettes that David Ubben peddled to me when I was 11.

I am thinking of starting with a pork shoulder or pork butt (can't type without laughing) but am open to other options. I want it to be as easy as possible and not waste too terribly much money in case I mess it up.

TIA.
YouTube your first effort. Specify you’re using a Pit Boss. Lot of easy to follow tips. Don’t forget to put aluminum foil over your heating plate and water in a pie tin to the side.

I went to a get together a few years ago at a home of friends of friends. The first couple of hours that I'm there I'm like man this guy's wife hates him. He's sipping casually on bourbon, but nothing crazy. I ask him what he's working on. Weller. Pours me a glass, we bond over this. His wife makes a big deal that I'm enjoying some bourbon with him. I'm thinking "ah, maybe this guy is in the dog house for drinking or something." The guy takes me to the guestroom closet - he's got 80-something bottles of Weller in there. Different releases. He had just got the hook up that week from some contact and just bought it all.

The way it hit me all at once that this maniac went way overboard with his bourbon collection and his wife hating him. I fell out. It looked like Game of Thrones when they had the bottles of dragon napalm under the castle. I'm such an a-hole, like 30 minutes later I just walked up to him and said "Hey, by the way, what's your favorite bourbon?"

Please, feel free to post all the food pictures you want. Not just today, but tomorrow. Share the love.

Last year, I did a smoke-a-thon for Thanksgiving. Ribs, Pork, Turkey. It was dreamy.

My gosh. Looks amazing. I'll be doing a turkey on my BGE tomorrow. Never fails.

Now this feels like the holidays. Other fanbases are out there screaming at themselves and each other about which coach to hire and which one to fire. They got players leaving for the portal. And the headlines about us are only about whether or not our coach did enough to be SEC Coach of the Year.

Over here we're busting each other's junk about Thanksgiving food choices, the finer merits of field weaponry and its usage, and whether or not A Christmas Story is a worthwhile Christmas movie.

I love it when the kids all get along. Makes the holidays sweet.

Someone pass the cranberry sauce (so I can quietly throw it out the window).

Happy Thanksgiving Ya'll. Thankful this season has gone so well. And thankful there's a place all us bafoons can gather to talk about it.
Don't take it for granted. This life's too short for that.

Well, that just made day of cooking and cleaning so much happier!!! It really is different not to have posters arguing about coaches the day before Thanksgiving.

Why are you asking me? I have not read the manual but will be today. I know that they need wood pellets. Other than that, it will be trial and error and then duck and cover most likely.
If you have the pellet grill/smoker then i would recommend some heat diffuser mods as this helps to reduce temp spikes and large temp variants within the barrel. By adding these two items you will reduce temp swings from around 80° to about 10°-15°. I did this on my 1100 series and it helped to reduce "cold spots".
