the phrase K.I.S.S. comes to mind, if it's simple and it works then why make it more difficult for all the offensive players? This isn't the NFL where you study your playbook and practice for a living... these are 18-22 year olds, the simpler you can keep it, the more the game will slow down for them
You can't spell K. I. S. S. without Dan Mullen's wife.

I haven’t heard any fans do that except for with maurer
It was all day long on 99.1 the day after the game…..Not that they wanted JH I’m to transfer but acting like Heup was doing daddy ball and choosing favorites….he will never let him play here blah blah blah.

Eh. Kiffin’s offense is simple too.. he does fine.

Anyways, we expecting a sellout Saturday? I want my girlfriends first neyland experience to be a true one. Hate it’s a noon game. Wish it was prime time.

For what it's worth - I can't count the number of games I've been to at Neyland. It could be a couple hundred. So this is just my advice for what it's worth. It's never about the outcome or how many people are there or the weather or anything else like that. After almost 60 years of going to games the thing I remember most is who I went with or who went with me and the memories that happened. For me it's always been about family and friends first. I've been to a number of spring games in the past where my party had a whole section to ourselves. I've been drenched in down pours and validated when Johnny Majors punted on first down. I was there for Holloway's return from the hospital and the Tony Robinson led comeback miracle to beat Alabama. I remember a lot of games but more than that I remember who I was with. There's not really I don't think that many really memorable games. They don't happen as often but the company you keep and the fun you share - that will always be memorable. For the really good game memories, since they don't happen as often as you might think, the best way to try to catch a few of those is to go to as many games as you can - and always bring family or friends along. That way we never lose, not in the long run. jmo.

I hope you and your girlfriend have a blast this weekend at the game - with each other. #GBO

My first game was Tennessee @ USC in 2003, I talked about it yesterday. Besides USC, UGA 2014 is the only away game I’ve ever been to, but I was a season ticket holder personally from 2015-2017, and have been to at least a game a year every year since 2003. So I’m in the same boat

But my girlfriend has never been to a college football game period. She’s a clemson fan though. I want neyland to blow her away Saturday and make the same impression on her that taking her to the super regionals did. She’s a tennessee fan in all but football.. maybe neyland magic will bring her to the good side in all sports.

What's sad is I didn't get the opportunity to watch a game in Neyland until I was an adult. The kiddo is about to turn 8 and soon I'm hoping he shows a bit of interest in watching games live.

Hoping to take him to a basketball game this season cause TBA should be rocking with the team we have & recent success.

I mean I'm sure people thought we'd just roll Bowling Green in the passing game. But Joe didn't have spring ball here, Bowling Green was trying to focus on stopping the passing game, and the OL was thin coming in and Cooper getting hurt made it a bit tougher. All this, and the fact that in Game 1 we were able to just run at will I think lead to a bit more conservatives play calling.

I actually thought it may be the best outcome, Milton showed signs that he's more than capable to run the offense but also now there's stuff on film the staff can coach him up with. We also got a few extra days to prepare for Pitt who will be the first real test we face.

Just hope the defense looks as good against Pitt as they did Bowling Green, that was probably the best surprise of the first game. How good the defense played, especially the DL. Hoping with a few more guys back for Pitt they look even better.

I agree and I don't think Heupel would call the game any different, regardless of who we're playing. It's a good sign that he didn't try to force his game plan. Instead, he recognized what their defense was doing and made them pay.

I'm glad we have a coach that is willing to adapt his strategy in-game. Previous coaches would persist with their plan and it cost them plenty.

Another good sign is that we do have the ability to dominate in the run or pass game and we can adjust our strategy as needed.

I used to laugh at Kiffin's offense at Alabama, because it was so simple, but still effective. His mindset seemed to be, "Hey, you know that receiver who's the best athlete on the field, maybe we should move him around and throw him the ball... a lot".

Sometimes coaches outsmart themselves. Kiffin knows when he has an advantage and directly exploits it.

When you grow up watching Tennessee, you are hooked. I know I am and I am glad of it.

The language percolating in fandom of him “bringing in his guy” and “Milton had the job as soon as he transferred” lends to this bs. Never believed that about Heupel and still don’t. He’s been doing this way too long (and effectively) to be cast as another Pruitt. We react to what we (think we) see in games. He knows how it connects and has the next step mapped out. Milton progresses and we benefit or he doesn’t and next man up. /science.

Exactly. People are so dumb sometimes. So much narrative building without substance. All they have to do is go back and watch the games from his time at Mizzou. There was nothing simple about that offense or its route tree. Highly successful and he made Locke into a top QB. In the SEC.
He will run as much complexity as the QB's can comfortably execute. The fact we ran a very vanilla passing gameplan against Bowling Green could be because we didn't need any more to be successful against them or because Milton is limited out some combination of the two. We will have a better feel for that after this weekend.

What some QB at a school he left says doesn't concern me.

Not just science, it's history. Heupel has never coddled "his" guy. He got the job, evaluated the roster, and went to the portal to fill the needs he found. The fact that the fanbase has chosen favorites is, and should be, irrelevant. If Milton is as bad as some here think/fear, we'll absolutely see Hooker and/or HB. But given the Maurer saga, Heupel is clearly smart enough to get another QB, and it shouldn't surprise anyone that he got the guy he thought could start. The fan spin is silly. The man is doing his job.

UT does a bunch of game-day stuff for the kids. He's about the perfect age to do some of those activities with him.

My 9yr old nephew never really showed any interest until I took him on his 1st gameday outing. We did some of the pregame activities, watched the game, and then went out to eat at Dave & Buster's (actually met up with my sister and nieces in Pigeon Forge then ate and road some go-karts.)

I'd say your kid will want to go to every game UT plays in the future after that, I know my nephew does and he just graduated from UT last year.

If he's like my nephew, he'll probably want to sleep about halfway through the 2nd quarter. I'd probably leave the game early with him, let him crash in the car for 30mins while driving to Putt-Putt. . . er, Dave & Busters. Anyway, great memory for me and I hope you get some just like it.
