Why would someone pay that kind of money for a no name high-school kid?
I get that but only fanatics know who he is. The general Billy Bob and Bertha on the street have no idea as to who he is. Seems risky to me.The thought with Ewers was/is that he's the next Big time QB. National media guys have been touting him as the next Trevor Lawrence, so locking him into these memorabilia deals (before Fanatics did) or to be the face of your beverage made sense to someone.
Why? Schools have been doing it illegally for years. They're not gonna stop now that there's a legal way to do it. Sometimes you crap out, but sometimes you win big.My guess is that Tennessee is staying out of the bidding wars for top ranked guys. Once a few of those bust, people will be much less likely to throw lots of cash at the next round.
I find it hard to believe that we couldn’t find any cash for Evans yet Hooker was rumored to have serious NIL deals. He came back, so there’s evidence he’s getting something decent.
And recruiting is just fine. Top 20 class with 5+ spots to fill. With where we’ve been, more evidence that everything is just fine.
Conclusion: we’re in the game but just not playing dirty for the mercenaries. And I’m fine with that.

I've not heard that. If so that's a good sign. What I've heard was much less.Yep, I have said that we needed to throw advertising money at current players to keep them, and that’s not in violation of making an offer to secure a recruit. Hooker and Tillman needed 6 figure offers, and it appears they are getting them. This is another part of the analysis about recruits just taking the best deal they get offered. If you go to UT, at least offensive players and the DL will get developed. If you show out in one year (see Hooker and Tillman), you will get even better deals.
There’s some serious locker room/cultural issues with NIL that were a few years from understanding that some programs may be taking into account before paying big $$$ to an unknown quantity.I find it hard to believe that we couldn’t find any cash for Evans yet Hooker was rumored to have serious NIL deals. Lots of intriguing talent already in the portal with more sure to come, it's just a matter of who will we be interested in?Guy on VQ who is usually good at picking up Twitter smoke says we may want to pay attention to this guy
Patrick Jenkins, TCU, Defensive Line

Evans went to freaking Louisville. That doesn't have anything to do with NIL.I find it hard to believe that we couldn’t find any cash for Evans yet Hooker was rumored to have serious NIL deals. He came back, so there’s evidence he’s getting something decent.

I thought of that today. I mean it happens in the NFL. Obviously skill players get a bunch more than the left guard and it seems to work. There’s some serious locker room/cultural issues with NIL that were a few years from understanding that some programs may be taking into account before paying big $$$ to an unknown quantity.
For instance, who blocks for the RBs, protects the QBs? How long until these big uglies that don’t get the recognition and the $$$ of the skill players walk away in protest? That’s a little exaggerated maybe, but these are the real world issues that will arise.
