I took a nap after the game, that one really hurt. Gave me a chance to calm down. That first shot down the field, the one where Hyatt got injured, I thought Milton was accurate on that one. After that, he was back to painfully overthrowing guys.

No Evans, then Small getting hurt, that was very, very not good. I was surprised we didn't see a bigger back spell Wright at times.

The defense is so frustrating. They play lights out at times, but at other times, it's like they can't stop anything. Why is it, no matter who is coach, we always struggle with third and long?

Hooker had a first down. That pissed me off.

Pitt is not a bad team. Not sure why some think they are. But we should have won. Players made mistakes. Coaches made mistakes. Refs absolutely made mistakes.... But we have lots of room to improve.

Our record will depend on improving and getting players back healthy. No Evans was huge IMO.

Any injury updates on our guys?

I came into this game with no expectations. I felt this was a litmus test game…where we are, how far we have left to go.

I’m done living and dying with every game. We will either climb out of this decade + long hole or not. I believe it will eventually happen, but it won’t happen overnight.

We have a long way to go…

But anyone who thought different before today was wearing blinders.

Today was not discouraging. Today was revealing, and a dose of reality.

Eventually, one of our coaches will hit on a legit QB and this whole thing will turnaround.

The most difficult part IMO is that the game was very winnable but the team was incredibly undisciplined with penalties and turnovers. The HC doesn’t challenge an obvious game changing call. And then calls a terrible play on that 4th down. Not to mention our defense couldn’t stop anything until Narduzzi went ultra conservative.

Pitt is not a great team. They are a run of the mill team in a **** conference. Defense has zero turnovers in 2 games for a philosophy that’s supposed to force turnovers above all else

I'm going to choose to note some positives from the game.

Nice to see Jacob Warren get some passes thrown his way. Even nicer to see a local kid score a TD in Neyland.

If Theo Jackson keeps it up, he will get drafted.

Special teams were on point today. Hopefully they'll continue to be a strength.

Not having as strong an arm seems to be conducive to using the TE in the passing game.

Yeah but he missed some doses this week when I fell asleep too early.
He has to stay on top of that. Only way to keep your ammonia levels regulated is the lactulose. I learned that the hard way. Don't put it on yourself. He has to be responsible for his meds. He knows he needs to take it. I know it tastes god-awful, and its effects are not fun, but he has to force himself to keep up with it.

TLDR
Some of you can’t see anything but the fact we lost. Yes, it sucks losing but what this game showed is we have potential to be a good team. We had 3 turnovers, nearly 150 yards in penalties, bad calls from refs, 21+ points left on the field, and we still nearly won this game.

I understand the coaches wanting to play Milton. With his talent he could have been the next Cam Newton, but he isn’t. He has one speed, through it hard and as far as he can. That won’t work. Hooker is turnover prone in his limited snaps but throws a more catchable ball. Bailey, who knows. I think they are trying to redshirt him and not have to change their game philosophy.

I hate watching the team lose as much as anyone but today was more enjoyable than any loss under Pruitt. We scored, we never gave up, and we almost won. I haven’t seen that attitude in many games in years. I would rather lose this way than get blown out and have the team quit like the last few years.

TN football didn’t fall off a cliff last year, it has been a steady decline with missed opportunities over the last 15 years. It will take several seasons to get us back to where we ALL want us to be at. Be patient and appreciate the effort from the players.

GO VOLS

Special teams was a huge bright spot. Wish the kick 6 didn't get called back. Theo played great.

He’s young and obnoxious.
There is no crying in football.

Tennessee has been playing football since 1891. They’ll be playing football until the world ends.

But they’ve been down for 10 years guys so that means they’re dead. I mean, we just lost a game by 7 points so clearly it’s true.
It’s not that it’s been down since 2008, which is 13 years. It’s that there is no sign of hope. This year, we have no hope, not even a punchers chance, to beat our big rivals. And that’s not even going to change for the next few years with the way this staff recruits

I think our 1st team defense is solid. I wouldn’t say good but the are close. We need depth plain and simple. When you are thin at positions, you play guys too much or have a drop off when the 2nd string comes in. That’s why you would see us look really good at times and no pass rush other times. They are tired or inexperienced…or both.

I told Jack Burton before the game we were about equal with Pitt. Nothing I saw changed my mind.

When you're equal levels the difference in winning & losing comes down to who makes less mistakes. They did and they won.

I will say that the new defensive staff has thus far impressed me. Especially the LB coaches. Imagine how good that group would look with some 4/5 stars back there. Banks is a converted RB, Mitchell, Page, & Beasley are 3 star guys that probably don't see the field at most SEC schools except on special teams. But they are competitive as hell.
