Just not as accurate as he normally is, but a QB throwing for 63% and over 350 with 5 TDs should not get so much blame in a loss.
This offense is judged on different metrics than most….. way too many dead possessions especially 2nd quarter through the 3rd…. Some of it was Hooker being inaccurate but I feel the biggest reason that we lost is Purdue dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage.

This was frightening. If we can't do better going forward we're going to be feeling this kind of frustration a lot.

Yeah….. it has to get better and will as we recruit and build more depth….. Purdue’s lineman were easily getting to the second level against our linebackers….. if you can’t stop Purdue’s rushing attack then you are not going to handle the rest of their offense.

Disappointing end to a good season. It is what it is.

All of this has been said 100000 times, but:

- I hope Justin Williams is a stud. We 100% should have seen Whitehead last night. Bigger back was needed.

- The defense is garbage, we have a couple of pieces, but that’s it. After last night, I think we need a transfer at every level on Defense. Hopefully we see Charles, Turnage, Mohan play more next year.

- Need another OL (unless Cade comes back), DT, Edge, ILB, CB, S, and WR

df 158 yards in penalties. why any officiating crew feels they need to insert themselves that much into a game to me is unfathomable?! it's assurd.

Purdue showed the advantages of having stability that allows a coach to recruit a full roster of scholarship athletes to a particular system. Those guys may not be 5-stars, but Purdue had competitive depth to make up for people that opted out and they were the right fits for their scheme.

It’s been quite a while since Tennessee could say that.

And we are still several years away from that.

…and that was a touchdown and we should have won that game

we should have beaten pitt and ole miss.

it's infuriating to me that NFL has a camera embedded in the pile ons.

I bought a refurbed Ring Stick On camera from Lowes for $70.

should easily be able to review that TD. hell even the old camera showed it. sick of half rate officiating.

Let’s not let terrible officiating sour us on what was an unbelievable first year for Heup and this program. No one even thought we would be playing in a bowl, so the fact we are there and getting to enjoy one final game at the end of the year is awesome. Heup and the coaching staff made lemonade out of lemons for the most part. I had the most fun throughout a season than I can remember for a very long time. I’m focusing on that. We will get stronger, faster, and deeper in the offseason. Another year in the system and another year being in a winning culture will pay dividends. We have to be a little patient and give the coaches time. I hope Banks reflects and improves his system and play calling. You can’t play bend but don’t break defense with the offense se we run.

I loved the fight and mentality of this team! We competed hard all year. We faced a lot of adversity…overcame it sometimes and other times we didn’t, but that will pay dividends in the future too, as we get in more and more big games. Great season, Vols! Onward to 2022! GO BIG ORANGE!!!

I’m still all in with Heup in case anyone was wondering. This garbage game will have no impact on our momentum
This! If we had gotten blown out, it would have hurt some, but the fact everyone in the country saw that we were once again screwed by the refs and it was an electric game in OT, it will only help momentum. We put the product in the field with a thin roster all year. We can easily pitch that we just need you, “recruit’s name”, to help us finish off these type of games.

The truth is I care too much about this football team. I want them to win so badly. I can take a loss but not when it is decided by the refs. Yes, we shouldn’t have been in that position. But we were in that position due to a lot of bad spots, missed penalties and game changing calls like holding that had been ignored all game.

I wish I could enjoy it more but losing 3 games due to officiating has about done me in. I think I could be better if I didn’t care so much.

Without Alonte, our DB’s were exposed. We really are very bad and I’m wondering if we are gonna lose a few games because we can’t stop anyone. We might be a 6 win team if we don’t get some DB’s and LB’s on the field. Banks is the only guy in the back 7 worth a darn. We better get at 5-6 transfers in who are ready to play D now and a couple of OT’s.

Regardless, I think college football is using their officials to keep Tennessee mid tier. If we are mid tier then fine. However, let the dang thing be decided by the players and coaches. I tired of these outcomes being zebra screw jobs. I literally won’t to see teeth and blood on the ground after beating those guys to a massive pile of broken bones. That’s not a place I want to be. Why can’t it be just a game I enjoy but don’t feel like I did as a player after a loss? I need help.
Preach!! This is the thing…this is supposed to be a game. The players put their blood, sweat, and tears out there…why can’t conferences and refs just let the best team win while being fair to all? Our players have done nothing but fight their butts off all year. Why do they deserve to constantly get screwed over out of wins? I don’t get it. I know it’s due to power and money, but why does it not benefit everyone to have a fair shake every game. Fans would enjoy it way more. It’s not like Heupel is a pr***, like Butch, and screams down the refs throats the entire game. Maybe he should start doing that from the first kick so that maybe we can get some calls that are fair. I don’t know…the whole experience is ruined when you don’t lose fairly. If we lost in OT with a fair shake, then fine. 14-5 penalties with some huge no calls…there is no way to look around that and not see the bias.

What makes it so egregious is that you rarely ever see the "top teams" get screwed over by bad officiating. You can watch a Bama or Georgia game and see multiple penalties go uncalled, yet let it be Tennessee or some other "lesser team" and the refs get whistle happy, blowing bad calls left and right. It's just ridiculous IMO.

Disappointing ending, but Heupel 'loved the journey'
“I’m disappointed in the outcome, disappointed for everybody inside of the locker room tonight,” Heupel said after the game. “They left everything out on the field. Disappointed in the result, but man the journey has been unbelievable. When we took over this program 11 months ago, where it was and where it is today are two completely….I’m proud of these guys, they’ve come so far.”
“I’m disappointed for our fans with the outcome of the game. Man, the passion of our fan base is unsurpassed anywhere in college football,” Heupel observed. They are on fire.
“Driving up with the buses today was a special scene. It was as good as I’ve ever been a part of. I appreciate all of their support tonight, really all season long and I appreciate them being on this journey with us.”
“It was completely out of the ordinary,” Heupel said “I didn’t feel like in the second quarter we didn’t execute some simple things very well. We had a couple of things that had a chance to be explosive plays and we didn’t execute them. We’ve got some simple things, third down situations, that we don’t execute. Not taking anything away from Purdue, but we weren’t very good in that quarter.”
“They didn’t run anything that we haven’t seen on film. We just didn’t execute like we needed to. I know that they had guys out, we had guys out, but their guys stepped up and made more plays than we did,” Theo Jackson said of Purdue’s passing numbers.
“You could see it when they walked off the field, it hurts. If it ever doesn’t then you’ve got the wrong group of guys inside your building. They’re prideful, they care,” Heupel said of his team. “I think that showed up in the way they competed tonight, but it’s (also) shown in the growth over the last 11 months."
“I’m proud of the guys, I really am, disappointed in tonight. The journey is way more important than the destination in some respects. Not that we don’t want the right destination, but man this journey has been awesome with these guys.”
Looking forward to end of recruiting and Spring ball. Not a good ending but what a year !
