That's exactly how you do it lol, back up, let the play run past you so they don't crash into you. If the official is especially brave he can back away perpendicular from the sideline, but the way they teach it is to back up parallel. But absolutely no excuse for not replaying that.

Just finished the game. There is a lot to catch up with in here… but what a fun game! Disappointing and the penalties are maddening but given the injuries and who was out before the game, I’m feeling good about the future. I’m just accepting this as a fun game to watch.

Pitt does look like a legit team but they’re running game is going to kill them when they hit a solid team like Clemson

The problem has not been firing coaches. For each of the last 5 UT coaches, the termination has been merited. It’s the hiring part where the UT decision makers have $&¡7 the bed since ‘09. Best hope is that we finally got a guy in White capable of making the right hire. It is too early to know for sure.

No one wanted the job so White was forced to call up Heupel. That's not to say Heupel will be bad, but DW didn't really have many choices.

Herman was winning 9-ish games. Sarkisian hasn’t done anything as a head coach to warrant swapping out Herman for Sark. Fire Herman if you’ve got, like, Urban Meyer in your pocket. But other than that, rolling the dice and getting rid of a coach who has you consistently winning at least 9 isn’t worth it. Things can always be way worse, as Tennessee can attest.

2 years? That 2019 team didn't quit either. If they did they would have won 3 games that year.

They beat up some bad teams. It was all fools gold especially that streak. 2016 was the last team with grit even though they weren’t perfect.

TennesseeGolfer is a high school official and said otherwise. I would think you have to attempt to stay with the play or if you have to avoid contact, go upfield, and not back. As Golfer said, the deeper official can help.

Being 5 yards back totally obscures his angle on the spot, and the guy in the middle of the field can’t see the ball. Totally incompetent officiating.

And Sarkisian has gotten fired multiple times. Other than a brief moment as OC at Bama where he had better talent than anyone, he's been bad.

I'm a high school official too. That is 100% the mechanic they teach, back up parallel and let the runner go by for safety. The side judge should have been helping out and he wasn't was the bigger problem, and not replaying it was the biggest problem of all.

It's sad how true this is. If Heupel had turned us down, we truly would have been scraping the bottom of the barrel for a coach.

There is a line judge on the other side that is backing him up. At least should be.

It’s so frustrating to be us. I mean we had a 105+yard kick 6 eliminated by offsetting penalties. Pitt decides to punt next play and pins us at the 1 yard line.

We have some bad luck in games.
