Then what happens if we hold the ball? I’ll tell you what—we go half the distance to the goal from the spot of the foul, in this case, that would have been the 5 yard line.
We forced them to kick again. Those were the options—take the ball and eat the penalty or accept the offsetting penalties and re-do 4th down. We took the latter.
But here’s my take on today:
We played with the discipline of a Pruitt-led team but ran a Butch Jones offense.
The rest of you can rehash the same talking points that have been stated for 2+ hours now, but it doesn’t change the fact that we are not a good football team, and it won’t be changing anytime soon.
It’s so frustrating to be us. I mean we had a 105+yard kick 6 eliminated by offsetting penalties. Pitt decides to punt next play and pins us at the 1 yard line.
We have some bad luck in games.
Hard to complain about the return for TD (I’m not)… but if he let’s that go through end zone we get the ball at the 42. Brings me back to my point. We have terrible luck.I think that’s a bad rule for that situation, btw. If you have a penalty on a field goal return that occurs after the return team fields the kick, they should allow the returning team to decline the other team’s penalty and have theirs marked from the spot of the foul.
Maybe…… coach played the guy that is doing better in practice which every single one of us would do as well….I thought Hooker did decent but has a lot to work…. The staff did a great job putting in a package that he could run for this game…. Not positive that he will be the answer as teams prepare for what he does best…. I hope he can do it.Come on man. And they played Milton. Who was not that. If he had played Hooker all game, we win.
But.....but.....Harrison Bailey!Maybe…… coach played the guy that is doing better in practice which every single one of us would do as well….I thought Hooker did decent but has a lot to work…. Ya I thought once possession changes, nothing that happens after that can undo the change of possession.Wrong on the field goal. Once possession changes, i.e. the kick is missed w/o penalty, then nothing can undo that. With offsetting penalties the outcome reverts to what it would have been at the point of the change of possession. 1st and 10 for UT at the previous LOS (from when they attempted the FG). That was the correct call.
Also wrong that we are bad right now. We certainly aren't where we want or need to be, but we are not bad. We saw bad in Dooley, Butch and Pruitt's last years. We have no room for error and we are committing them left and right. Had the O and D played with the discipline of the special teams, we win by between 15 - 25 pts. That is not bad, it's immature.
The refs were terrible and I'm 99% sure that's a misapplication of the rule. It’s so frustrating to be us. I mean we had a 105+yard kick 6 eliminated by offsetting penalties. Pitt decides to punt next play and pins us at the 1 yard line.
