Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

I'm about to watch the game via DVR but here are my thoughts watching live.

Milton shouldn't see another snap unless Hooker is unable to go. Hooker gives our offense better chance to sustain drives and score.

I understand why Bailey isn't getting game reps now, he would get murdered behind this offensive line. This line isn't very good, which is worrisome considering many if not most were highly recruited/rated. Seems like they should be better.

Defending the middle of the field continues to be a problem for us, we need to upgrade at linebacker if possible in the off-season.

Our interior defensive linemen look dominant early but fade late. We really need more help on the outside in the pass rush as well.

The referees were horrible today. Not just a questionable call or two but overall management of the game etc. Very bad.

We look like a bottom 3 or 4 SEC team. It just illustrates how badly the transfers have hurt us.

I thought this game was the most important on our schedule for a number of reasons. We now have a better idea of what we have. We certainly have room to improve and can clean some things up but this is most likely going to be a 4 or 5 win team, if we stay relatively healthy.

Edit to add:

I really want Heupel to be the guy, he said some things I really like but he's walked into a damn near impossible situation. He needs Joe's to compete but needs to show a culture change/improvement. I hope this staff can develop talent.... And quick, cause we need it.

And a 65% full stadium doesn't help matters but I understand the apathy. I won't burn 12 hours and money for this either until we get better.

Then what happens if we hold the ball? I’ll tell you what—we go half the distance to the goal from the spot of the foul, in this case, that would have been the 5 yard line.

We forced them to kick again. Those were the options—take the ball and eat the penalty or accept the offsetting penalties and re-do 4th down. We took the latter.

But here’s my take on today:

We played with the discipline of a Pruitt-led team but ran a Butch Jones offense.

The rest of you can rehash the same talking points that have been stated for 2+ hours now, but it doesn’t change the fact that we are not a good football team, and it won’t be changing anytime soon.

Wrong on the field goal. Once possession changes, i.e. the kick is missed w/o penalty, then nothing can undo that. With offsetting penalties the outcome reverts to what it would have been at the point of the change of possession. 1st and 10 for UT at the previous LOS (from when they attempted the FG). That was the correct call.

Also wrong that we are bad right now. We certainly aren't where we want or need to be, but we are not bad. We saw bad in Dooley, Butch and Pruitt's last years. We have no room for error and we are committing them left and right. Had the O and D played with the discipline of the special teams, we win by between 15 - 25 pts. That is not bad, it's immature.

It’s so frustrating to be us. I mean we had a 105+yard kick 6 eliminated by offsetting penalties. Pitt decides to punt next play and pins us at the 1 yard line.

We have some bad luck in games.

I think that’s a bad rule for that situation, btw. If you have a penalty on a field goal return that occurs after the return team fields the kick, they should allow the returning team to decline the other team’s penalty and have theirs marked from the spot of the foul.

Edit: apparently we could have done this. Or maybe not, I’m still confused.

Why can’t we find physical and fast running backs lately. Arkansas players playing fast and physical.
They have a really good OL and arguably the best OL coach out there for their HC. Probably helps. Our backs would look pretty good behind that too lol

Hard to complain about the return for TD (I’m not)… but if he let’s that go through end zone we get the ball at the 42. Brings me back to my point. We have terrible luck.

Come on man. And they played Milton. Who was not that. If he had played Hooker all game, we win.
Maybe…… coach played the guy that is doing better in practice which every single one of us would do as well….I thought Hooker did decent but has a lot to work…. The staff did a great job putting in a package that he could run for this game…. Not positive that he will be the answer as teams prepare for what he does best…. I hope he can do it.

But.....but.....Harrison Bailey!

Hooker had some good stats. Probably should have played all game.

Ya I thought once possession changes, nothing that happens after that can undo the change of possession.

The refs were terrible and I'm 99% sure that's a misapplication of the rule.

Imagine if Banks block was the only penalty. Half the distance to the goal. But because one of their players commits a penalty, they get an even better result in the form of a do over?

If you throw an interception and see a block in the back, just run over and kick the opposing Coach in the fruit basket so it offsets and you get a do over.

**** obviously is wrong. Those refs were God awful.
