D1 referees should be a full time job. Not this part time crap where you jetset to seminars to learn the new rules and show up on Friday. They need to spend time developing the skillset needed to keep up with the game. It needs to be their job, not their hobby. How games are officiated is in need of major reform. Continuing to ignore an obvious problem is going to hurt the game. People don't watch games to see refs screw over the players who are out there giving their all for their team.

Yesterday, I saw him helping up a guy on the opposite team, which I thought was great since one of his biggest problems is controlling his temper. Sometimes this year, I wished he could have been a running back, too.Only complaint we can have about Banks is how many penalties he has, granted he has cleaned things up a lot
I sincerely question whether Heupel is the guy - whether his schemes will work in the sec, long run.
I don’t want to be a Debbie downer but all we really did this year was catch a lot of people off guard and beat up on bad teams.
I’m far less optimistic about year two today than I was just a few days ago.
The reason we had players playing 100 snaps goes back to my original point, They couldn't get off the field. He seldom did anything accept rush 4 or 5. That allowed the secondary, that was probably the weakest position on the field to be exposed repeatedly. If you have a bad defense, you should try and do at least one thing well. You should rush the passer or be able to cover. We did neither. John Chavis, as his base defense said once that if you keep 5 into block, we're sending 6. If you keep 6 into block, we're sending 7. We're always going to send one more than you have to block. We should have always made the offense have to account for additional rushers. If we get burned for a long TD at least we didn't have to be on the field for a 10 min 20 play drive. I would have been fine if he'd have employed the bend but don't break philosophy and dialed some stuff up in the red zone but he played the same base defense almost the whole game. He did dial some stuff up at then end against KY and that is the sole reason we won the game.I don’t pre judge a season bc there are always so many variables….. we had guys including defensive tackles playing 100 snaps….. I don’t think anyone else would have performed better as a defensive coach with this roster.
We have to fix our depth issues.
I don’t understand how anyone can say that our defensive coaches have a full complement of SEC talent. Theo Jackson was nothing before this year, so you can’t say he was a good player. Alontae was solid but not great. Banks hadn’t shown a whole lot, and we played Solon Page at times. DL was good but still don’t have elite talent there.
The fact that we were top 5 in the nation in TFL is a damn miracle. 3rd down defense has been a problem, but Tim Banks did more with less, and I’m not sure how it’s debatable.
