Bingo. My stepdad is a huge UM fan, but he didn't listen. Told him you HAVE to throw over such an elite defense, like Bama did...like we sorta did...and he immediately said "we have a great run game"...I just chuckled. I tried to warn him you're not going to run over their DL. Thank god Bama's still there to save us all from hell. The problem with Michigan is that their strengths played right into Georgia’s strengths.
Exactly. There's no evidence. They can just make it all up and nobody knows whether it's even real or not.It was the most asinine reason I’ve ever heard. I literally could not believe they claimed “I thought so in my mind, therefore it counts even though the whistle was a full half second after the TD”
If every team played an equal strength of schedule you would put ATM in there, perhaps even Arky and Kentucky. Who's so much better? This year for sure we have 4 possibly 5 of the top 10 teams.Who are the 4-6 SEC teams in the top 10 this season? I only see 3.
I do agree that UGA and Bama are light years above the rest of college football, but it’s a pretty steep drop to Ole Miss after that and then even further down to teams like UK and Arky or ATM.
Yeah... this is bad. Certainly a lot of it is lack of talent. But still. Dang.We were 117th in first downs allowed
We were 120th in red zone defense
We were 122nd in passing yards allowed
We were 60 (woo hoo) in rushing defense
We were tied for 32nd about 10 other teams for interceptions.
We were 103 in 3rd down defense
We were tied for 54th in 4th down stops
We were tied for 42nd in sacks
We were tied for 103 in recovered fumbles
We were tied for 90th in scoring defense
We were tied 98th for total defense
I didn't see the stat for TFL but it sounds like we were good there so we've got that going for us.
We literally sucked at every meaningful defensive category that I could find. We couldn't stop the run. We couldn't stop the pass. We couldnt sack the QB. We couldn't get off the field on 3rd down or 4th down. I can't believe the excuses that you guys have for Banks. It as Sunseri level bad. Vandy was statistically better, significantly, on many of these stats.
I'm not calling for the guy to be fired but tied ignore how pathetic this defense was is burying your head in the sand.
That's what it all comes down to ultimately. We know we have the scheme, now bring the dudes.Let’s get some high level recruits and get this thing rolling… GBO
This is a three to five year build. The portal had hurt more than helped so far, hopefully that changes this year. That's what it all comes down to ultimately. We know we have the scheme, now bring the dudes.
The question is if it will require winning a big game(s) to get that ball rolling or if we have the recruiting chops to pull a top 10 class even with 7-8 wins again next year. A win over one of the big 3 sure would do wonders imo. We need a "national spotlight" win.

Those are volume stats though and we obviously will defend more plays because of our offense. In fact we were 127th in plays defended out of 130 teams. Unfortunately half of that equation was also on our defense due to 3rd down d, but the rest is just tempo of course. We were 117th in first downs allowed

All true but when you are rushing 3-4 about every down against a minimum of a 5 man line, you're not going to pressure the qb. We can blame the offense but if you're honest you have to acknowledge the defense has the responsibility to get off the field. They seldom did, even early in games. They were warn out by the end of the 1st qtr because they never could get off the field. A good defensive coordinator will scheme to help out a weak defense. Banks seldom did.Nice breakdown. In addition to the talent gap, our warp speed offense does little to help the situation. It has it’s inherent advantages as well. Also, our poor DB play has much to do with our impotent DL. CB’s can’t cover receivers that long. A good DL makes for better DB play. All of that to say.. we need players. I’m sure the staff is well aware.

It was the defenses responsibility to get off the field. I would love to see how they rank in 3 and outs. My guess would be near the bottom. Those are volume stats though and we obviously will defend more plays because of our offense. In fact we were 127th in plays defended out of 130 teams. Need efficiency stats to see an apples to apples comparison. For instance, our run D per rush is 38th. Pass D is 53rd YPA. Overall YPP 51st. Up from 76th in 2020 under the "guru".
You're right about RZ and 3rd down though. "Situational football" killed us with an otherwise pretty decent defense. And, sadly, I believe (jmo) situational football comes back to coaching. The D coaches have got to fix those things.
