I absolutely hope this is right! It always seemed to be that the way the cornpone firing and self-reporting went down was always about getting rid of Fulmer and had nothing much to do with not paying cornpone, which I usually dodge as causing contention, but which I think was an excellent move, if that was the only way to get it done, and it looks like it was.

If that is true, it still doesn't answer the question. Because there were IMO excellent and also terrible reasons for wanting to replace Fulmer and I can't (yet) discern which were at work. I also think Fulmer plays an important ceremonial role, so I usually refrain from stating views about him. I thought he did a great job in his very early years and did a great job recruiting Payton.

When you say "I am not even sure where the idea comes from that our admin is not fully invested in winning," you seem to answer your own question with "how screwed up things have been in the AD since Mike Hamilton." Also note the wording that the administration "absolutely runs the risk of looking like" (just in case you are referring to my post). Mine is a claim about appearances, which you appear to confirm as an issue in trying to dispel the very appearances that necessarily accompany the long-time train wreck.

Love the Vol Air Force, brother!

I am all in on DW. It is unique in my lifetime to have an AD who doesn't appear determined to undermine his own coach. Dickey, for the record, was the original Kiff except worse. It took the guys after him to make him look like "the good ole days." He sold us out over and again and undermined Majors in every way he could think of. I think (pace McGill) early Fulmer was a definite upgrade over Majors but I'll refrain from anything beyond that because he needs to be an icon, so long as he stays out of the way of Team NOW.

Also, over half the things I want to ask about seem inappropriate to ask. I wish there were a way to ask more knowledgeable people directly.

In conclusion, IF the administration is, as you rightly say, being doubted until they prove themselves, that (justified IMO) doubt is not going to hinder them. They have all the power. I am all for them doing nothing but kicking ass and chewing gum... and staying all out of gum.

Yeah, it wasn't a direct response to your posts but rather an observation in relation to a lot of similar discussion. I get it though. Any doubt is completely justifiable by now. As a fan base, we have certainly earned the right to be cynical.

I am sure there were a number of things that influenced the decision to clean house in the AD and football, but like you say, unless you have access to somebody in the UT Admin with direct knowledge, we will probably only be ever to speculate. I respect Fulmer and think he is villainized on here a little too much. He gave a lot to the program. My feeling though, is that he brings a lot of baggage with him. Hiring him as interim AD made sense, but he should never have been allowed to hire a football coach. Interim AD should hire interim coach and oversee transition. Once he hired a football coach, it became much harder to transition away from him. There was likely no scenario where you wouldn't have to get rid of both Pruitt and Fulmer at the same time.

In any case, the house cleaning was always going to be expensive, in many different ways. It took some real backbone to pull the trigger knowing full well that it could completely blow up in your face. So far, I think it has been handled amazingly well by the admin. I think a decade from now we will look back on things a lot differently. You can already tell that the stench of the program is fading. 11 months ago, we looked like a dumpster fire, but now there is growing admiration for our program. There seems to be a really good culture in the program. The players are playing with passion and look like they are truly having fun. In years passed, it always seemed like the program was so fragile that any loss could blow everything up. This year was different. The admin has to at least be given a little credit for that, because if things are not good in the AD, then it trickles down through the whole program. There is no sense that that is happening.

I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

The head ref was Jerry Magallanes. He's 58 I think is hard to believe he would have a college-age grandchild.

More on him anyway:

Who is Jerry Magallanes? - ACCSports.com

Yeah I need to talk to my friend and get the story straight on which ref and who he said dug up that story but Jerry looked older than 58. I would have guessed 68.

And to add to this. He told this like right before the service started and had to leave right after church so I didn't to talk to him further about it but I will this week.

I just don't get this "we don't have the money uga has" talk. If our AD can't find a way to match the NIL money UGA has, then we need a new AD. I know NIL doesn't come from the school, but he has the money connections and he needs to be encouraging them to get players. That's how it is now. Adapt. We don't need stadium renovations money as much as we need NIL money. I think White will be smart enough to figure that out. The money UT is capable of pulling in is equal or greater than uga. If we aren't able to afford the best players now that we don't have to do it in a dirty way like UGA was doing, then our admin isn't very good.

Who are our BIGGEST money people that both have it and our willing to give it in the NIL chase?
The Haslams? Peyton?
