Makes sense. He has no idea what Venables will do offensively. Seeking out options seems pretty reasonable. That said, UGA wouldn't be "it" iyam lol.

Shoot, why not follow to USC? Beautiful campus and keep your HC and great QB developer.
He has some idea what will be done offensively. They hired Jeff Lebby to be OC.

Why? Remember to think about money here. There's little monetary reasons to pay $30mil a year to players. As a matter of fact there are negative monetary implications to that.
Winning?

These aren't business deals. Ask every Neyland-entering Vol fan for a $20 donation at every home game. Boom there's $10mm plus to get us started. It's about winning, these aren't actual investments.

I mean...we've raised $350mm or whatever for freakin stadium upgrades. Nobody was asking for investment returns on that. Now we're talking about something that much more directly impacts our success...we can't wilt for the same reasons.

It's the NFL without a salary cap.
And just as importantly...a draft. If these kids wanna be professionals...then put together a super league of all the major programs that want in, and a draft. Tell the HS kids that if pros are what they are going to be, then they go where the bosses tells them just like the NFL does. Then tell them if you don't want to play where you are drafted for the big money, then go to a lower level and play for peanuts or nothing.

Something has to be done to preserve some form of competitive integrity, or this 💩 is over for a lot of people. I for one have no interest in seeing my beloved Vols be the Washington Generals to Bama, UGA and Ohio State and a couple of others like A&M that are willing to pay insane amounts for unproven talent.

More reason to sit at home and watch in HD. I think trying to shift the NIL to the fans is a crock of ****. The university is making anywhere between 50-75m every season in revenue as is, there's money that doesn't need to be leeched from the fans to work out better NIL funds.

Oh I agree 100%. They should have always been paid by the university. But each and every university (aka the ncaa) has fought it tooth and nail.

That said, the fans are paying regardless I suppose. Whether directly or via tv deals, ticket sales. Not like the university is going to lower ticket prices. They'll go up. TV deals will increase as will our TV bills.

But wil coaching salaries go down? Lol not one penny. So much for equitable pay.

We've seen coaching salaries skyrocket this year.

To be fair though, you already pointed out the "why"...the money is going to the stadium. Assuming Heupel & company can win enough to get folks in the stadium the money will be there.

So really we'll know how serious the university is when Heupel is entering year 4 or 5. Stadium will be done...hopefully he's won 7+ in each of the first three seasons here. That's when you see top 15 classes turn into top 5 classes all at once (happened at Clemson, A&M & Georgia doing it now)

Here's the deal, next year when it comes these NIL offers don't renew, you'll see plenty of these kids jumping off the train. They will have paid for a 1 year bench rider to develop that offers little to the roster. There's a shell game that's going to get played and at least half these guys are going to find their deal is much less down the road.

Shoot, this is just the wild west being commercialized and well-known to all. The wildest days will always be when it was all underground and illegal in various ways.
You think the money is similar as what's been offered in the past? I don't, I think insane amounts of money is being thrown around, much more than in the past.

They believe in heavy personnel packages and they have the body types to do it. That’s tough to defend. God forbid they ever get a legit QB and keep him

The thing about those kind of dinosaur offenses, they only work in today’s game if you can out-talent your opponents across the board.

Winning doesn't create that much money. I've said it before Winning isn't isn't that important. The common fan isn't that important. The money generated from TV is roughly 50% of your revenue. There's very little incentive to go all in to compete at the top levels.

There's limited amount of booster money. If you want your boosters to pay 25-30 mil to NIL deals the potential is for $25-30 shifted from donations to the AD to the NIL thus a net loss to the AD. That's annually.
