NIL is going to be The Great Divide between schools who want to win at any cost and those who don't or can't. It was always going to make the corrupt more corrupt while giving the wannabes a path to buying their way up the ladder. Who schools hire is a good indication of what they want.
So we will probably take a step back?

Is UT (it's booster pool) prepared to spend $25-$30mil on NIL deals? IYO

The top players wanting top dollar aren't that interested in rebuilding UT... and if they were, they could get whatever they wanted, or more, from another program closer to being a playoff team. Big money boosters aren't going to pay big money to fund NIL deals for lower level talent trying to make bank. And UT is looking for a certain type of player who fits a profile and meets a specific need, so UT is having to be choosier.

So we're not going to compete when it comes to NIL?

Thats kinda what I figured. I still believe you could see hefty money spent on a player that does fit the culture, wants to take on the challenge of bringing the Vols back, but still requires a large NIL deal. I think they'll be few and far between though.

It's an interesting strategy. It's going to be fascinating to see how it plays out. I don't think that strategy will win championships as Bama and GA will have talent stacked at every position. Jimmy's and Joe's are the most important part of the equation. I think UT fans need to temper expectations and be satisfied for competing for 2nd place in the east.

Paying players is no longer “the wrong way”.

Schools don't broker NIL deals for recruits. UT wants to recruit a certain type of player a certain way, and these players aren't always the flashy names that boosters might think warrant a big NIL deal. And UT has a touchy relationship with some boosters over, well, a lot of things that have happened over the past few years.

This is what we need our boosters doing. Imagine if Heupel had the kind of talent A&M is bringing in this season. This is the game now. We either jump in or we're going to be even further behind.

Old blood..the new blood doesn’t have much interest but I think JH will have them more invested in 2 years or so…he’s bringing the excitement back..tennessee is literally a sleeping giant.

So what it would take for TN to get into the NIL game? Lets say, Year 3-5 Heupel goes 9, 10,9 wins. Would that be enough to get more money in?
