I'll always watch, it'd just be nice to be able to do it without being miserable. Hell, it's hard to question anyone who has stuck by the Vols the last 10-15 years. Even when I was on the verge of death, I kept hoping we'd be good in football again. Like competing for conference championships good again, at least. Hell, even just to compete for the East title.

Can't be...apparently to some on here our NiL deals consists of memberships to the jelly of the month club.

I mean I'm a little irritated about not trying for the top but tbh who thinks those dudes want to play here anyway right now? I like quite a few players in this class alone. I'll also laugh when teams like Texas A&M buy these players and they still win 9 games a year and never make it to the playoffs🤷‍♂️

From what I am reading here is UT plans on not recruiting big time players and not really wanting to invest in the NIL game and they are just going to surrender trying to win championships and expect fans to play along? Never mind that they want you to pay these outrageous season ticket prices now and be happy with 8,9 win seasons. Does anybody know for sure what the plans are for NILs or is it all just speculation ?
It is Volnation, so speculation

A lot of boosters are contributing millions to facilities and academics. These funds are already pledged.

UT is rebuilding how it planned to rebuild with the kind of players it committed to bringing in. Academics, character and student leadership are important to UT, so the coaches are being selective and aren't going to be bringing in any more players that are highly rated but academically or ethically questionable like the ones that have been recently dismissed.

Pat Summitt did it, and Rick Barnes, Kellie Harper, Karen Weekly and Tony V. have been doing it for a while in the other marquee sports. Football is transitioning under CJH.

Honestly, doesn’t sound that bad to me at all. Not sure why some are so rankled. I really like some of these kids we just signed in football, I love Heupel and staff… the vibes seem good around the program.

And if Heupel can be Barnes/Vitello, I’m so sold.

Hopefully there are players that the coaches and the boosters can agree on that big money will be available for, like Iamaleava. But the way LA is laying it out, I'm not sure if that will be the case.

Maybe, I'm not sure this teams issues are fixable in a season though
Bunch of new parts. Cal deals with it every year. Lots of our problems are just meshing together. I do think this team will go as far as their 3 point shot will take them. At the beginning of the season I thought we could shoot with anyone. That's fallen off disappointingly. Hopefully we rediscover that with regular schedules.

Everyone will be ecstatic if we can get the players to actually compete. I like this class. I don't think anyone is attacking this class. We're discussing how NIL will shape future classes, and if we'll be willing to step up to the plate for higher rated players in the future.

Justin Williams just signed his 1st deal today. He's 100% an elite RB and from all accounts he's really intelligent and a good kid. There's all kinds of dudes that are just like him.

I just wants some dudes like Baylor’s defense. He!! surely we can get some like them and develop them like they did. I’d love to have their defense.

This is 100% true. Question is can we compete with the elite teams with those types of players. Time will tell.

Never even peaked at that roster but I'd say their blue chip rate is pretty low. Not sure who all is on that defensive staff but Dave Aranda is a dude for sure. I'm a fan

I wonder what we're offering a player like Jared Verse? Will he end up some place like FSU because they promise him more?

What you're reading is opinions of people who have no idea what's going on inside the UT athletic department regarding NIL.

I watched them for the first time against Ole Miss and holy smokes I was impressed. If they can field a defense like that then we can too. We don’t need the best defense in the nation with our offense. Something close to theirs and we’d compete with GA and AL.

Regarding the Banks discussion on doing more with less like CJH did on offense: Doug Mathews mentioned on his Sunday show that CJH brought most of his offensive staff with him so it was easier to install the offense while the defensive staff had not work together thus they had to learn each other and how to teach the scheme. Found that interesting and something I had not considered. He went over who is returning in 2022 and what areas should improve and what needs to be addressed. He speaks from a coach's perspective and thinks the younger talent will be better than what graduated in 2021 though I can't say I agree with all his observations (eg. Flowers and McCullough are solid safety's). Would recommend listening to his Sunday show as it focuses completely on the Vols. Hopefully this is the link to his podcast.
Coach Doug Mathews

Great listen. Thanks for recommendation and the link.

I'm willing to wait and find out. I'm honestly tired of pulling so called elite dudes only to see them beat up their dealer on campus and never amount to anything. I do think we need to swing at a few questionable ones though. Maybe they keep their head on straight surrounded by guys like Justin.
