Pitt is a solid team and we took them to what should've been OT with our B-team. That ain't too bad despite our QB woes.

Folks need to realize where we are right now. We are not the Majors or Fulmer teams of the late 80s through the early 00s. We are low down and everyone is going to keep on kicking us because they lose if we rise. We are bereft of talent compared to the past and Bama/UGA's current talent pool but we still have a history and a brand to sell and we can get better in a hurry with the right coach and a few key players (even Jones managed to put together a terrifying team that could've gone very far had he been a better game day coach) but it takes the right combo. You judge a team by where they are and what they are facing. Did they play to their own talent level etc? You don't judge them by a bar that is impossible for them to reach -- Fulmer's teams were basically NFL teams at damn near every position (including special teams).

People are correct to dog the team for the dumb penalties because that's something they control but wrong to dog them for lacking talent. That isn't their fault. We have what we have.

I think this team can reach a bowl but I don't know if they will. If they can keep the offense going and put up good showings Heupel will be able to recruit. This is a great place with more advantages than most. It simply needs a spark. Jones found that spark but he couldn't manage it under pressure. Heupel seems pretty even keeled. I think he can handle the pressure if he ever gets the talent here. I'm more worried about whether or not he can recruit.

Things aren't nearly as dark as people think but we have a long road ahead of us.
I was thinking similar yesterday, and that we are more akin to the Majors' teams of the late 70s and early 80s. Didn't expect to win every Saturday, but every Saturday had hope and looked forward to watching (sorry, listening and occasionally watching) the team play knowing that a win was always possible, although not always probable. Patience was understood at that time, and the improbable wins were certainly glorious. However, no single game, win or lose, was a definitive indictment of the program or season,

I guess what I'm saying is, we are who we are. Enjoy the good and don't like the not-good ruin you.

Some thoughts from X2:

- we play 3 more teams that are comparable to Pitt this year - Mizzou, Ole Miss, Kentucky. We need to win 2 of those.

- Milton missed too many throws. The one Hyatt couldn’t hang on to was perfect though.

- why did we run a play with 20 seconds left in the first half instead of taking a knee? We handed off to Jabari Small, and he got up holding his collar bone area — if he broke it, we may not see him again this season. How incredibly wasteful and stupid. If you aren’t going to try to score, take a knee. We got our starting RB hurt on a meaningless play. I feel so bad for Small.

- Tyler Baron is already the best player on our D. Maybe the best player on our team. He is going to make some money playing this game.

- Kenny Pickett played really well - the kind of consistent and smart quarterbacking we’ve been missing since Dobbs graduated. There are a few reasons we lost — turnovers and penalties especially - but Pickett is why Pitt was able to win.

- Where are Beckwith and Whitehead? What does 4th and inches look like if either one of them had gotten an opportunity? How can both of them not be ready to play?

- Hooker looked okay but gave the ball away 2x. We can’t win that way. We can’t win with Milton missing wide open receivers and putting the ball on the ground either. We don’t have a competent QB right now. We have guys that have tools and show flashes, but not a full QB right now. We need a Kenny Pickett.

- The Pride of the Southland barely exists now during the game. We see them in pregame and at halftime, but during the game they are basically relegated to just being fans sitting in uniforms holding instruments. We play awful music over the loudspeakers the whole game. Most of the pomp and pageantry that make the live game experience so fun have been put on the back burner, and in their stead, we get DJs and blurry sounding hip hop music over a sound system that isn’t capable of playing it in a clean sounding way.

- concessions and beer stand lines were awful. They need more and they need to merge beer sales into the regular concessions lines. It shouldn’t take 20 minutes in the beer line and then 15 minutes in the vol dog line. You want more people in the stadium? Make it easier to get beer and food in them. You are competing with their 70 inch tv, stocked refrigerator and air conditioning. Make the in game experience more convenient and comfortable for your fans, and you’ll get more butts in seats.

Keepers: getting the TEs involved, our team speed, Tyler Baron, our D’s grittiness, our Special Teams play, stadium fan support/energy,

Trash: the officiating!, the 4th and inches play call, getting Small injured on a meaningless play, Milton’s deep ball accuracy, Jaylen Wright up the gut, QB shovel passes, the stadium sound system, the stadium music selections, the beer lines.

Hooker and Milton are who they were at their old schools. They both lost their jobs during season. Milton still has no touch on his throws. Hooker throws a weak ball. I just want whichever QB gives me the best chance to win. I'm not sure it's either of them. If I had to choose out of those two, probably Hooker.

Watching yesterday was a rollercoaster of emotions. We played like crap and still should have won that game. It probably shouldn't have been close. Pitt is a middle of the road team.

Team did not quit. That is a start.

Heupel's offense is legit. Milton just cannot hit an open receiver. Absolutely would have changed Pitt's offensive gameplan and made them more desperate.

Ride with Hooker. Obvious we need a dual threat QB. Oline is undisciplined ,can't run block , and gave up some sacks.

If the plan is to redshirt HB end the speculation and say it.

Pitt had a legit beatable team. An ACC officiating crew apparently helped. Hopefully next season our SEC crew will watch game film and reciprocate. Not an excuse for bonehead penalties.

It is actually encouraging in a weird way....IF..Pickett doesn't have the game of his career, we beat the living crap out of them despite all the mistakes.

Pickett had a JG vs Auburn day...

I'm not even going to say much about our starting QB..You all know what I have said about him from the beginning...and I hate it.

That was our shot at a shortcut back to respectability. There will be no shortcuts, we are going to have to do it the hard way...like Johnny Majors did.

Please please please VN...don't go all "Heupel and his fellers all suck! We want Kiffin"..We have to give these guys time to fix this mess.

Anyone revising their season record prediction?

I started the season at 7-8 wins.
After BG I dropped it to 6-7 wins.
After Pitt I'm dropping it to 5-6 wins.

I was at a healthy 6-6 until yesterday. I'm now firmly at 5-7. Unless we can find a QB who can play the position I just don't see us going bowling.

Still the refs and missing players hurt bad . Don't usually complain about refs but they were clearly one sided. It's going take a little time to get all the pieces in place. But we have to have a smart and accurate QB .

I thought the initial criticism of Milton was unwarranted. First game jitters.

They worked on the deep throws all week. Never high percentage plays . Those were really bad overthrown balls.

Heupel's offense produced multiple opportunities for big plays. My one critique was after the BS spot he didn't put the 6'4" QB under center and sneak it for a 1st down.

He thinks Richardson is the best thing since sliced bread. Truly fascinating tea those dinosaurs drink. I’ll be drinking tequila watching bama wax that ass with joy
Richardson is something else reminds me of Patterson hard to control but he can't throw .

Imagine how many penalties we will have when we are in a hostile environment and play hurry up... LOTS of false starts incoming

Milton didn’t fumble that either. He was flat on his back and Pitt player raked that ball away. Ref changed play to a fumble but there was no video evidence to overturn.

Even if it was you don't initially call that a fumble. You call it a sack and then review to make sure it wasn't a fumble. That's Ref'ing 101.

And they barely hung on...it is incredibly frustrating..but if you had told me pregame that these things would happen..

That Pickett would have a career day, that we would have those TOs, and sacks, and a completely one sided officiating whack job...I would have predicted a blowout, but it wasn't a blowout. It took all that happening for them to eke out a win...in Narduzzis third year.

If Pruitt was coach yesterday we get absolutely obliterated...45-10 or worse.

Like I said...in a really weird way it was really encouraging to me. I hate it, but...wow..I can easily see the potential.

Those botched short yardage plays are all over CFB now...I don't understand it
